  1. We have 3 of the carbines in our group, 1st. change the trigger springs, 2nd. AK style right side safety is nice, 3rd. red trigger looks pretty...TF mag. extensions work fine, The CZC mag. extension have been troublesome. Ours are early guns and have a good amount of use in competition.... If you go the AR way, get a lower that is made to take Glock mags. ( I have 2 and they sit in the safe)
  2. Try one of the Sightmark's... I like the circle/dot/red combo, visible in the bright Arizona sun. These are inexpensive and hold up well (lifetime warranty , save receipt)..... Used on my Vepr 12 gauge and CZ Scorpion carbine. (my son and my shooting buddy's CZ Scorpion's both use the Vortex Spitfire (Etched reticule / dot visible even without battery turned on and GREAT if you have astigmatism ). I bought one and could not get it sighted in (this one would not allow the vertical adjustment to go down for sight in purposes, both of theirs were just fine?, Go figure.... I find an open glass gives a better view, quickly.
  3. Well, hope you have found your problem?. You might consider using a dummy test round left purposely "long", mark the bullet with a marker or dye and let the bolt slam the dummy round into the chamber.... After a few trials you will know the correct OAL for your chamber. (leave some free bore, some gunsmiths recommend .005)
  4. Old3gunner..... Get a baby bottle brush @ your $.99 Store or similar place... I use the one with a large and small brush
  5. OPENB..... Wonder why it's polymer now????...... HUMMM...... Maybe a "little bird" told them something?......As a note ... the Glock ETS mags work and are made from a harder plastic.($12 ea.) (I have not got the TF mag extensions too function with them as yet....Just a little bit tighter)...Those 2 other Glock guns see limited duty now anyhow.....Nice too have a backup gun that works!
  6. I started out with the typical metal mag conversion 9mm AR. The gun was very inconsistent magazine wise (tried all different brands of mags, magwell adaptors etc....Soooo.... In our group of three shooter's we have settled on the CZ Scorpion carbine. You will want to change to the lighter trigger springs ($8.00). Maybe add the AK style RH safety selector?, ($30) as the stock RH one is an irritant to the trigger finger. Also, the AK front paddle mag release isn't a bad investment ($35) BUT probably not needed IF you don't have to change mags during a course of fire???...30 round mags @ $20 is a plus. The TF mag extensions (W/spring) WORK, very well made..... Can't say the same for the CZC mag extensions (guessing weak springs)...The TF's should get you through most courses of fire W/O a mag change. PLUS, YOU LOOK COOL!!! with the CZ Scorpion, Styling wise.. Now,that said, I have 2 other PPC guns, both take Glock mags and are very reliable. 1st. is a PSA Glock lower receiver gun, 2nd. is a Just Right 9mm gun. Either is a good choice, depending on your budget...One thing to watch for on Factory Glock mags is the wear on the mag body at the mag slot because of the metal mag releases on these guns... (Glock's mags don't like metal mag releases).....When your Glock mags fall out?, look for the worn slot....You can buy mag extensions /w/spring for the 33 round mags.. (TF o TT). Red dots... 2 of the group use the Vortex Spitfire 1x, (the "etched reticule" is a big plus, still visible dot even if the battery fails and GREAT if you have astigmatism). I use the "SightMark Ultra dot even though I have astigmatism as I don't like looking down a tube and they are very reliable, (I use the circle/dot... Hard to miss the 8" steel plates (I can still miss?)..($80)
  7. Good info... I will proceed slowly..... Thanks
  8. Too late, sent it back to Optics Planet.....
  9. Interesting..... My son has the Spitfire on his CZ Scorpion 16" carbine, sighted in just fine..... I liked the "etched reticule idea" as a lot of red dots just aren't real visible in the Arizona sun or the "dot" dies in the middle of a match plus I have astigmatism and get the "starry" dot, so I bought one for my CZ.... I can't get enough adjustment on the vertical for sighting in..... Either I got a "dud" or ????.... Seemed to me at the time that if the height was lower, It could have been sighted in...... Back to my "Sightmarks" which are bright enough here in AZ and only $60/$70 each...can't beat the "circle/dot" on the Sightmarks.....Just don't buy the early model that takes the 3 little batteries (PIA to change) BUT works well.
  10. Every now and then I'll see some tidbit's about reshaping the nose of the Glock trigger bar. I own a variety of Glock's and all have had the $.25 cent polish job done as a minimum, some much more. I've done Joes trigger bar pin relocation and such ( and ruined a few along the way).... Any info on the reshape?
  11. Those are plated bullets aren't they?... from the pictures it looks like most are not tumbling...I'd side with those that think it's the bullets or possibly the crown?. Doubt it's the barrel or else I'd think they would all/mostly tumble????.....
  12. LOOK AT THE mag itself..... My buddy used aftermarket metal mag releases (Gen 3 guns) and they wore the mag slot in the mag out.........He changed back to plastic Glock mag catch's and all is well...I use Gen 4 Glocks, so I got a bunch of free Glock mags and just moved the mag release to the right side....
  13. Simple to buy direct... I don't think you will find a discounted price.
  14. How long is your overall length?..... There are those who have found that their revo 9mm loads needs to be slightly OAL longer as the INTERNAL dimensions of the 9mm case gets smaller internally as you push the bullet into the case. Powder is also a consideration, I couldn't get reliable extraction with Clay's and a 160 lead Bayou's when I first started with the 9mm 929.... MOST of my early problems were of my own making (Read my early posts). I've always used the Lee "U" die in the 1st. stage and I shoot LOT'S of 9mm in different guns/rifles. Dillon case lube is good stuff on all my brass no matter the calibre.
  15. Well, that's what I thought... There was about 2 feet between boxes AND I made sure I had one foot in each box before I started shooting and the other was close behind.... .. I searched UPSA rules and really did not find the specifics... IS the "rule" clearly defined ????...This is a steel match and UPSA "rules" are followed... I wasn't penalized but there was discussion.
  16. I had a RO question a stage I shot.. that I can't find in the rule book.... 10.2.1 or ???....Speed stage...There were 3 shooting boxes and you went a,b,c....He said I had one foot in the box and the other in the air entering the box, shot once but had 2nd. foot in the box way BEFORE I shot any of rest of the remaining targets I thought this was legal as the array was shot was finished with both feet in the box?.... I see this as a very difficult call as some shooter's are WAY fast and you really can't tell if BOTH feet were in the box prior to shooting while moving from box to box.... I've also have seen a few shooters arrive at a barricade with both feet in the barricade lean out of a barricade with one foot in the barricade and one foot in the air for a difficult shot (usually the last or most difficult to see) realizing they would incur a penalty IF the foot in the air touched the ground IF they missed the target and continued to shoot with one foot in and one foot on the ground........(one foot in box and one foot in the air after BOTH feet were in the box/barricade)....What say you?????
  17. Just buy the RIA 9mm upper and be done with it. You can find very good prices on one of the larger internet buying sites (E????)... I have the RIA 1911 gun and have 3 complete upper's, (9mm bushing, 40 S&W bull barrel, 9mm bushing, with breach face opened to 40S&W specs, match barrel fitted).. I was impressed with the fit of all 3 uppers on the original 9mm frame, nice and tight.
  18. MKA Match ordered..... We shall see?..... From the site comments & a T&N phone conversation...... I'll will try that newer version/platform, once more. Shot the Shotgun/carbine match at RIO 12/15/16 (Thursday night)... With the CZ Scorpion 9mm rifle, (these are runner's, change the trigger springs and go, we have 3 each in our group).... One of the better shotgun shooter's was using a Vepr 12 and had lot's of problems... ("It" usually worked well) Thanks, Mike
  19. serfmaster & others.., went to the link, Very recent info, Thanks!!!..Whew, glad I've not bought one. I've got some experience with the Saigas, MKA, presently have a Vepr. (I'm probably the worst weak hand tube feeder loader out there?, more shells on the ground than in the gun ), so this is why the magazine fed shotguns interest me. . ... On every (both early & late models) Saiga 12 , I had to pull the barrels and open the gas ports up to .092 or more. The early MKA was my 1st. pro built shotgun ( mostly mag /feeding problems). The Vepr is a improvement over the Saiga. But doesn't load easily on the closed bolt for me, even with bolt mods (ugly & heavy with the 25 round drum).....I don't shoot shotgun regularly and can't see spending $2000/$3000 on a shotgun that isn't used that much ALTHOUGH I enjoy the platform.... Looks like I should curb my enthusiasm till these mag feeders have the problems worked out...... These days , you can buy a decent AR for less than $1000, why is a reliable box stock mag fed shotgun such a myth?......
  20. Am I living in a "dream" world?..... I don't want a tube feeder.... I had them all (early MKA, Sagia's, Vepr). Even after mods, none were as reliable as needed for competition. I was about to make the plunge and try this, the "UTAS-USA XTR12BM1 XTR-12 Semi-Auto 12ga", a USA made mag fed model. Looks like "they" have moved production to Turkey????. I see "Tooth & Nail" was working on this gun and it looks promising BUT I'm not willing to spend another wad of money just to make them semi-reliable?.....I've contacted EAA about the MKA "Match Pro", maybe a bit better than most., then I see there is a MKA "Match Pro, gen 2, (AR style butt stock) for sale in Canada but not the USA....(EAA says only certain configurations can be imported)... I might take the plunge and try the later model MKA, ad the AR style butt stock but my early version had problems with the feed lips on the plastic ramp and magazines over 5 rounds were iffy . Now I see the MKA's have "floating metal" feed lips ???... Anyone got a clear picture of this????... Thanks.
  21. JGus....Right @ $800 +.... Started with the RIA 1911 9mm bushing pistol (not the GI version, Novack sighted model). Bought 1 each Clack (Para ramped) 40 S&W Match gunsmith bushing barrel, bought 2nd. 9mm bushing slide and opened breech face to 40 S&W specs. Used EGW angle bored NM bushing fit to 2nd.slide and Clark barrel fitted to 2nd. slide. Opened pistol and polished/stoned stock parts......(May replace stock internals with EGW parts if "stock" don't hold up). Will have 9mm and 40 S&W upper's for the same lower. Not quite done with the 40 S&W version, need to fit extractor to shell case,etc.....Gun shoots fine in 9mm.
  22. I've shot with you before @ RIO..... I'm 75 and my "goal" is NOT to be "last"...... If I am last, the "goal" is not to be "last" at the next match. Yes, bay 3 has the little rise. . Try the Sunday monthly 22 pistol match @ RIO....No holster, weaver table start 5 or 6 plates x 5 strings, so the 617 will be fine (that re-loader/moon clip rig is great as you need at least 5 reloads per stage. See ya, Mike.
  23. Don't thumb your nose at the single stack RIA 40's. They are very well fit, nice and tight. . Most have the Para style ramped barrel. Bull barrel only at this time but I'm building a 40 bushing barrel version for SS using all RIA parts Bud's will usually do a price match.
  24. Anyone do this???... I have a 1911 bull barrel slide and need the slide cut/notched for a bushing....( for USPSA competition)
