  1. I would like to add a detachable capability to my 3-gun holster, which is a custom unit for Cz TSO on a Boss hanger. I like the secure attachment point of the Boss to the belt and don't want to give up too much rigidity in the attachment point between the holster and the Boss. So which system is tighter and more rigid, QLS or TMMS? I use ELS for the rest of my belt.
  2. I run a New Frontier bolt which has a removable solid rear weight. They make a pass through adaptor that has a inner diameter of .53", I reckon I'll give it a shot when I get the bones: https://www.newfrontierarmory.com/shop/ar-9-bcg-adapter-weight/
  3. What is the required size of the hole in the back of the bolt?
  4. If someone wants to let me borrow one for a weekend I will do an objective side by side comparison like I did for the Taccom short stroke upgrade, its hard to imagine it could be much better and still be blowback:
  5. Thanks for the write up. I considered that barrel for a recent comp rifle build but ended up chickening out and playing it safe with a mid length barrel. Would love to see updates regarding reliability after a few matches and some dirty running.
  6. It depends on a lot of variables. With a light handload it will do basically Nothing. If it's a heavy comp it's weight may still calm the barrel some, but that will hurt your target transitions. With factory loads it will probably help some, so you have to weigh the benefit you are getting against any drawbacks you notice (slower transitions, increased length, etc). With hot handloads you can get them to work pretty well. So it depends on your gun and what you are using it for.
  7. You can be plenty successful in 3-gun with a shotgun that's not a taran m2, or an m2 in general for that matter. As long as you get something reliable to start with and set it up right. I beat a taran m2 shooter and several bredas today. I have never had a single malfunction with the 1301 in thousands of rounds, other than with 1 oz 2.75 dram loads when it was dirty (during practice of course). The most important thing is to just get started. And then do it a lot.
  8. That's badass man. Care to elaborate? I have at least less than an hour free after a match today.
  9. I opened the port, mostly with files, kept dremeling to a minimum. I will try and snap a photo this weekend. I added a Taccom match saver. That took a surprising amount of work in this gun, though I am picky about exact placement. I added an extension tube of course, no barrel clamp. I got a lead rod that just fit in the tube and sawed off a 2.5" section weighing 12oz and put that in the end of the tube under the cap. I added a pound of lead shot to the buttstock interior. I added a nice soft recoil pad. And got extended chokes: Diffusion, Light Mod, Imp Mod. The gun shoots soft and fast and has run flawlessly. When it gets pretty dirty it doesn't run 2.75 dram 1oz shells 100%, but I never use those in a match anyway. I think thats everything I did. I love the shotgun portion of 3-gun!
  10. It looks a little lower maybe, and more funneled. That might be good enough. But the tube side of the port needs to be wallowed out a good bit more to expose the shell end better so your thumb can push them in while skimming the top of the port there, rather than poking into the tube. It comes down to this isn't really a custom 3-gun shotgun, its a production model thats 90% of the way there as opposed to the Comp being 80% of the way there.
  11. I think they really shoulda maxed out the loading port on this Pro model. And included a match saver. So it was truly ready to go other than the tube. The only reasons I can think that they didn't is that both those things take hand work to accomplish correctly.
  12. I use the Gen 2 1301 for 3-gun in at least 2 matches a month. I opened the loading port myself and after several iterations got it where I liked it. It is a good bit more open than the Pro looks to be. So I'd plan to modify that still, at least if you quad load. The stock and lifter changes on the Pro look pretty cool. I'm not sure about the fore end and have never had problems with the bolt release myself. I think I paid right at $1100 total for the 1301 Comp and it has been flawless. I think I'd have to shoot the Pro model first before spending $1600 on it, to make sure those features did add noticeable value, but I definitely could be tempted.
  13. Awhile back I switched from Wolf Gold to the inexpensive 55 grain Fiocchi .223 "rifle dynamics" for my main ammo and it does not look like it has crimped primers. I haven't tried loading any yet, but I am definitely trying to actually save that brass. Not sure about their other .223 flavors.
  14. That looks awesome, and if it made it through 1000 rounds without an issue it already has a lot of 2011s I see at matches beat! How much over the $1200 did the tools, jigs, etc run?
  15. The Hiperfire hammer hits harder than anything else and it has the fastest lock time. The trigger pull quality is about the same across the very top tier triggers, I don't believe any minute differences between them are noticeable in a match setting, only when pulling them slowly at home. So the added reliability of the Hiperfire does it for me. Elftmann would be my second choice, though. These are my personal opinions based on trial and error and what I see happen at matches, ie light strikes.
  16. Get the best Hiperfire you can afford.
  17. I asked this same question here awhile back as weak hand has been a problem for me. Canting the pistol to bring the sights over to my right eye better was the single best advice I received. With a little dry and live fire practice it's no longer a concern for me, especially considering the rarity of actually being required to so it.
  18. I just received email confirmation the CCI rebate was approved. It was all done online and was very easy.
  19. It shoots dead flat as it is for me. Someone with a different stance and grip might get different results. The Armalite brake did require the tuning plugs to be drilled to achieve a neutral impulse with my stance though.
  20. CCI has the same promotion going. I got two cases for $138 each on Grafs but the rebate is still pending approval...
  21. I got the fairly new PWS Hypertap Brake for a build project I have been accumulating parts for this Spring and figured I'd share my impressions here. The rifle features 16" mid length barrel, adjustable gas, 8 oz BCG/bolt. The Hypertap is the most expensive brake I have ever sprung for. It is by far the easiest to install. It looks great. It is also the most effective brake I have used. Yes, more effective than the SJC Titan. The lack of movement will make you think something went wrong with your gun. With a proper stance it provides insane dot stability. It is also more blasty than the Titan. Noise may be about the same, that's hard to tell. On this 16" barrel with 15" handguard the first 3 or 4 shots was all it took to blow the FDE cerakote off the front edge of the handguard. Chunks of crap hits my support hand as well, more than I have encountered before. Sooo, I moved theHypertap to my main 3-gun rifle with an 18" barrel. It is more reasonable there and is an improvement over the tuned Armalite brake it's had on it. The lesser weight of the Hypertap is nice there as well. I never felt the Armalite brake was getting enough gas way out there to really work. It does seem to work great on the 16" luckily though. Light, expensive, crazy effective, blastrific.
