  1. And in the Shadow, all internal and external safety features are fully functional as is with any Shadow. The Shadow is originally manufactured without a firing pin block safety. If I use a frame from a CZ75 SP01 and the same sear cage assembly as a Shadow, then it is the same as a Shadow from the factory. By mechanical and functional definition, nothing has been disabled. A Series 80 1911 frame with the lifter removed and the hole for it conspicuously empty in the frame would be a different story. CZ75's/Shadow's are uniquely constructed in this case, since it's not an actual part off the raw frame. So there's really nothing on or IN the gun to even identify or raise such a question that wouldn't be brought up on virtually any and every CZ Shadow in existence.
  2. The Hogue one is nice as well. Straight forward and secure on the tube.
  3. And a 100% truthful answer is that it is an OEM CZ frame, which is allowed by IDPA rule #5 in section 8.2.1.2. Why would they even hypothetically ask? The only 'giveaway' would be different serial #'s on the frame and slide, but again, it's still OEM and Shadow serial #'s/markings aren't any different than those on 'regular' CZ75B/SP-01's.
  4. How would they know that it's not originally a Shadow frame or a factory/OEM replacement? Unlike, say, Series 70 vs. Series 80 1911's, all CZ75/SP-01 frames are manufactured without a firing pin block lifter. The lifter is part of the interior sear cage assembly that comes out separate from the gun when you detail strip. The cage is interchangeable (same factory part) between any CZ75B/SP01/85C/Shadow that has a manual safety....depending on whether or not it's a Shadow or regular SP-01 upper, you have a lifter in the cage next to the appropriate sear or you don't. Series 80 1911 frames have an actual hole for the lifter whereas Series 70 frames do not. CZ75B/SP01 (non-Shadow) assembled sear cage...green arrow points to lifter.... Shadow assembled sear cage....same cage, no lifter, wider sear.... Series 70 and 80 1911 frames, the part with/without lifter hole/mechanism is not separate from frame itself..... So no, the SP-01 frame is not originally manufactured with a firing pin block lifter, that's a feature added to the sear cage depending on whether paired with a Shadow upper or not. There's nothing on the frame that indicates it should have a lifter or not installed in the sear cage that it's supposed to go with. By the rule, one could even have an original Shadow, get a stripped factory CZ SP-01 frame and replace it (maintaining Shadow internal mechanism) and still be within allowable mods, since it's the same OEM part as originally shipped from manufacturer, and what the manufacturer itself uses to assemble your same gun. The only possible difference is perhaps a slight difference in magwell beveling...but that would be nearly impossible to notice without specifically measuring, and we're talking with calipers (and that might not be the case on every model of Shadow). But again, it's still an OEM replacement frame. Hence if the gun has a slide that says Shadow, there's no reason to even look for a firing pin block mechanism anywhere in the gun, and there's no way to tell if the frame itself at any time had a firing pin block lifter in its sear cage assembly. If the slide only says sp-01, then yes one could inspect to see if the internal firing pin block is intact, if so inclined to make sure. But a Shadow is a Shadow.
  5. With an actual Shadow slide, which has no firing pin block, then it's a non-issue because it is now a Shadow frame, which comes stock with no firing pin block lifter (since it has nothing to do). I.e., there is essentially no difference in the frame between a manual-safety CZ75 SP-01 frame and a SP-01 Shadow 1 frame outside of that lifter when needed. If you took a regular SP-01 or CZ75B and removed the firing pin block plunger in the slide as well as the lifter in the frame, then that'd be a violation/disabling of a safety feature. CZ75B/SP01 slide underside... Shadow slide underside...
  6. I bought a used SP-01 for a good deal, found a shadow slide on CZ Forum, sold the SP-01 slide, did a little customer work with trigger and removing firing pin block lifter, and I have an SP-01 Shadow for hundreds less than buying a base Shadow. It's my go-to for IDPA and USPSA Production. I actually sold my Shadow 2 because I liked the regular Shadow 1 better. Granted it's not like you find just the Shadow slides for sale very often.
  7. If I didn't live in this state I would have bought a Guard or Sig MPX by now....or both, with how much a pre-ban lower costs!
  8. Agreed. Again, I'm a CT resident so I have that hurdle of not being able to legally buy a CMMG lower and/or configure it as a rifle. I like how my regular blow-back PCC is running now, and really, if I want less recoil I'll have to start hand loading. But it was good to ask before diving into a build that might have more problems and cost more $$ than what it's worth. Thanks everyone.
  9. Got it. Glad it brings some money, but my lord is it a pain to deal with.
  10. It may be an issue with the disconnector. Sometimes the 'wings' need to be ground down slightly on the bottom for it to clear the trigger bar so that the single action can break normally. If you look at this animation below..... You can see how the trigger bar (light blue) kind of tilts at the very end and slips by the lugs (wings) on the green 'hook' attached to the hammer, which is the disconnector. Sometimes the trigger bar won't clear the lugs, and when this happens, it can feel like the trigger doesn't pull back far enough to drop the hammer. This is where some custom disconnectors like from Cajun Gun Works have to be fitted, even a slight amount like .008" honed down to clear the trigger bar. CZ's have varying degrees of play in their sear cages....and that could sometimes require some more fitting of the disconnector. Did you change any parts after getting the gun, like the manual safeties?
  11. Still no fix for this? It's excruciating.
  12. No experience with Colt mags, but I used an Aero upper with no ejection or reliability issues at all. This is with a Foxtrot Mike BCG, milspec lower and a Stern Defense Glock mag adapter. I agree that you may want to look into the ride height of the ejector compared too your BCG.
  13. Yeah, that's what it was looking like. But also......from what I can tell the CMMG ejector is inside the actual bolt, whereas with the Stern adapter (like others) the ejector is on the adapter itself.
  14. The Stern Defense adapter that I use works great with Glock mags, completely reliable and I get last round lockback as well. Since it inserts from the bottom there might be a little leeway as to how low I can get where the mag seats, but not much since it still secures in place mainly by the lower's mag catch. Frankly if I could I probably would have just bought a complete CMMG Guard carbine, but again in CT we're not allowed to buy or build AR-platform rifles (with an actual buttstock vs. arm brace) that are post-'94. In all likelihood I'll probably not bother because of the whole lower issue, but was just seeing what needed to be done.
  15. Sweet, thanks much! The lower is a bigger concern because I don't really have much leeway, being a CT resident and having to go with my preban lower and Stern Defense mag adapter in order to have a 'legally' buttstocked carbine.
  16. Cool, yeah I can see how the ejection port could be enlarged just by grinding back the 'lip' areas a bit but still be covered by the trap door if need be. Would just need to figure out how to protect the bare aluminum. Thanks.
  17. Hello All, Was wondering if someone could help me on this. I'm interested in getting a CMMG Guard bolt and barrel, but wondering if they will fit and function in a regular Mil-Spec upper and lower (with a Stern Defense Lock mag adapter in my case). On the CMMG site, it mentions a flared ejection port, but how exactly and wondering if that's something I can do myself. Or does it really need the proprietary CMMG MkG upper and lower receiver. Would be much easier for me if I could just install into one of the receivers I have handy. Thanks in advance.
  18. Shot the Hiperfire Reflex in a local IDPA match last night, and it ran like a champ. Light and fast. Definitely sticking with this one.
  19. I'm fairly new to competitive shooting, nowhere near the level of shooters listed here....but with my MBX lightweight barrel the other day sighting in a C-More 6MOA red dot, at 18 yards I put 50 rds of Blazer Brass 115-gr into one ragged ~2.75" hole in the middle of a 4 inch orange bullseye sticker....shooting pretty rapid fire/practicing double-taps. I don't know how that translates to 25 yds with a scope (of which I've also tested), but for my needs those shots will all be in the Zero-/A-zone in just about any competitive setting I'm likely to be in with this gun as long as I do my part. So thankfully, mine seems to be working fine, or at least as well as I need at my current level.
  20. You could see my posts above. So far no reliability issues at all....around 400 rds with the red, and 200 with the green, shooting a local IDPA match tmrw with it. The red springs feel pretty good, like a nice medium-weight (competition-wise, it's still pretty light at around 3.5 lbs) trigger that's plenty easy. But the greens just make it lighter and seem quicker, and personally my groups improved with the greens so far. Only thing is that the green springs may wear the firing pin down sooner so I'll have to keep an eye on that, but so far very happy with it.
  21. Since the SP-01/Shadow platform has become what I'm most comfortable with for competition, I'm going to look into getting a Shadow slide and having it milled for an optic. Actually may just get a CZ75B Shadow so I could hopefully make weight for Carry Optics in IDPA.
  22. Tried the Hiperfire Reflex with the green/2.5-lb springs, and it's great. Light/crisp pull, and completely reliable on reset and everything with 9mm. I think I've finally found the trigger to settle on for me. My groups were also better than before. Only thing is now I have some extra triggers lying around.

    SP01 magwell?

The gun I have pictured in my post above actually fit in the IDPA 'box', with thumb rest removed of course but even lengthwise and with the magazine....but the overall gun is too heavy (I use it for USPSA and plates/steel). I like those Hennings and may pick some up as well.

    SP01 magwell?

I got mine from Armory Craft, IIRC.... https://www.armorycraft.com/product-page/cz-75-alluminum-magwell-black But if they're out of stock, can also be gotten here.... https://cesar-shop.com/product/magwell-thin-for-sp-01
