  1. Took it out the other day and off the bench at 15 yds (thats the distance I sight in most of my revolvers ) 2 groups of 3 and in each group all 3 were touching. Load is 147gr RN, X-treme bullet sized at .357, seated at 1.140, 4.0 grs VV N330. Avg FPS 850 and power factor is 124. I will definitely test this load at 50 yds to see what it can do. I have another load that I just chronoed and did not get a chance to put on paper, but it looks good. 4.2 grs VV N320, Precision Delta 124 gr RN .356, seated 1.135. 5 rounds high 1029 fps, low 1004, avg 1015.8 for a 125.9 PF. Should be a good steel load if it prints on paper. I am going to bump it up to 4.3 and see what it does. So far money well spent and with a little practice I might be able to shoot this gun to its potential. I also use a Lee 38 special undersized die a 9mm taper crimp and a 9mm dillon powder funnel. These are all loaded on a Dillon 650. My thanks to Mark at Pinnacle High Performance. The revolver is a shooter.
  2. Red dot both eyes open at all times. Iron sights both eyes open except long distance and tight shots and when I am having a good day I shoot with both eyes closed.
  3. Sig ... Could prescription glasses rectify the problem?? Having said that, I have a close friend that was one of the most accurate shooters I know with iron / metallic sights, when he got prescription glasses he stopped running into walls and such, but his accuracy suffered with the irons sights, so he switched to optics, so then again seeing might not be the best thing... Ahh... there might be hope yet (it's hell getting old). One of my shooting buddys is an ophthalmologist who I use for my eye examinations. He recently introduced me to a concept where I use single correction (as opposed to tri-focal) lenses for shooting. The dominant eye is adjusted to focus at the front sight while the other focuses at target distances. With both eyes open I can see a very sharp front sight and a fuzzy target (sounds like cheating, huh) just like you have been taught. As your eyes age the focus just won't change quick enough to switch back and forth between the target and sights. It's great! I can find out the exact specifics if anyone is interested. You can sample the results by having the Optimoligist dial in the numbers and let you hold a pencil out to simulate a front sight. You will be amazed. I would like the specifics if you can get them.
  4. Cylinder latch is Pinnacle High Performance. The grips are what came with the revolver back when it was a 6 1/2" 627. I am going to use my Hogue Big Butt grips on it. Right now I am going to use a OKO 4MOA dot, but I still like my Bushnell Halo sight with a 6 MOA dot and I might go back to it. The gun does not weigh that much and it actually is balanced real well. From the tip of the barrel to the end of the forcing cone is 6 7/8", I have 4 1/4" of rifling before the bullet hits the comp at the end of the barrel. The final step I have in this is to have Robar put their NP3 finish on it and then it is done. I have 610 built by Charlie Prest (God rest his soul) and it has the NP3 finish and I can't think of a better finish. Easy to clean and your gun always feels like it has just been oiled. If you know me a few beers is all I need to to think that you are a nice person. Maybe Doug C (from Iowa) and I will start a revolverloution and all will want the starter guns. Like I always say I may not shoot well all the time but I can sure look good all the time.
  5. 38 Short Colt built by Mark Hartshorne at Pinnacle High Performance. Has a 5.5 lb trigger job without a mushy feel and a .356 barrel. I put a scope on it real quick and off hand at 20 yards I could hit the same impact point on a static steel target. Loads were 147 grain Hornady FMJ BT 9mm with VV N310 3.3 grains OAL 1.115. I am pleased and I am ready for the IRC this year. I will play with more loads and let you know how they work out. I am looking to use 125 jacketed bullets at 1000 to 1100 FPS. I think this will make the comp and the ports work and instead of a slow recoil it will give me a quicker one. Bubber If you are nice I will let you play with my new baby in Arkansas. Smiling Dean
  6. I have seven on my belt but it is always good to have more. You might look at the Speedy Rack, It's what Jerry used at the Nationals except his has ten posts and the production one has seven. I think they are $110 shipped. With the Speedy Rack you have to use Herthco Moons. I have been using mine for about three matches now and it works great! John Where can you get the speedy rack?
  7. Count me in as long as I can still make the Rocky Mountain Regional.
  8. Count me in, I will be receiving my 8 shot 38 short colt from Pinnacle this week. Its going to be sweet.
  9. Pinnacle High Performance can take your L frame 686 and rechamber it to shoot 9 mm, 38 super and 9x23. I have attached his site for you to look at and call him with questions. http://www.pinnacle-guns.com
  10. It says 6" guns, is that ...up to 6"... or only 6"? I use it for my 4, 5 and 6 inch and it was a tight squeeze for my 6 1/2. To make an extension for longer would be very simple.
  11. Universal Shooting Academy stock # 944-100-008 (Brownells), holster can be converted right or left handed, adjustable cant, rake and vertical. I have a CR Speed and to compare the two I would have to say the USA is faster and has more adjustments to custom it to your draw. Just my 2 cents worth. If I attached the site right it should take you to Brownells page. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/pro...?p=15481&s=
  12. Great match, I think I am finally getting the hang of shooting iron sights now if I can remember that I don't have to reload everytime I move. As for the door I think next year you should have one that has to be lifted up. Just think how many face plants you will have if you change the direction from in to out. I think everyone will remember the door next year. As for the narrow doorway I know I shot a few notches out of the frame. Again great match and for those who could not make the match this year make sure you mark it down for next year. Dean
  13. As moonclips are used, they get more forgiving. The narrower the moonclip (.022 ?) the more forgiving. I have yet to see the moonclip that accepts Winchester with alacrity. What moonclip are you using?? ooops, I have to read much more carefully. I only use Winchester brass and always have. The moon clips came from Bob Miles and were bought somewhere around the late 90's. He had some that Winchester would not go in and I use to go through what he had for sale and pick out the ones that work for Winchester brass. At the time I was getting a heck of a deal on once fired Winchester from Sarch's out of Colorado. Lost count of how many times they have been reloaded.
  14. A little disappointed as I thought these would be big enough to carve out a set of Big Butts. No problem with what was received it will still make for custom grips carved to my specs. I will just have to figure out how to add the big butt. Again thank you to Cking for taking the time and effort to do this.
  15. Sorry I forgot to put down that I will be there. Hope I shoot better than I post. Revoman
  16. If I could figure out how to put pictures on this forum I would post a one of a kind 610 made by Charlie Prest of RPM (no longer in business and the first maker of an 8 shot 38 super) sweet gun but only a six shot. Trigger pull at 4 to 5 pounds and reliant ignition on federal primers. If someone can tell me how to put pictures on I will put on this beauty
  17. Just tell me the amount and where to send it.
  18. If the COF does not require me to go back to my range bag to get more ammo than I can carry with 9 moon clips, then I consider it revolver friendly. By the way Love II I don't mind finishing ahead of a few autos or behind a few. When the smoke clears the fun is just the same.
  19. To a friend, Dave you will be missed by all at ICORE.
  20. I did not vote as I am torn between USPSA and ICORE. I like to shoot in USPSA with my 625 (need more practice) and I like to shoot open in ICORE with a custom 627 in 38 short colt from Pinnacle Custom. If rules for revolvers in USPSA were followed as what is written in ICORE except limit the stock revolvers to 6 rounds and open revolvers to 8 rounds. It would be black and white what is open and what is stock. I think we would have more revolver shooters in USPSA if we had both stock and open. Me myself, I will shoot whatever is dictated by the match I am attending and if I don't like the rules I don't go. Thats what makes America great., freedom of choice. Just my 2 cents
  21. I will do that as soon as the paper copy comes in. I only paid online today for my slot. Thanks
  22. I have a 610 with a bobbed hammer and I just never got use to it. Oh well if I was a pro and did this for a living I would probably lose sleep over it but instead I will enjoy and hope the nut behind the trigger doesn't come loose.
