  1. I don't know anyone who has made major with a 38 short colt, but for a minor load of 127.5 power factor I use the following. 150 Master Blaster .357 Moly coated bullets V V N310 2.9 grains seated at 1.175 When I crept into the 3 to 3.1 grains I started to get sticky extractions. This is the load I use for ICORE. But if you want to try and make major go for it after all it is Cliff's gun. Well I just found out today that Master Blaster bullets closed its doors due to the high cost of lead. Now it's back to the drawing board as the load I have above was printing 2" at 50 yds out of my 38 Short Colt revolver. I am going to try LTD Custom Cast Bullets owned by Wayne Doudna as he is showing 2 diffferent 150 gr rn .357 bullets. Has anybody used his bullets?
  2. +1 on what Dave says. I just sold a 6 1/2" 627 to a friend because I've grown to like the 625 better. I have a 4" and a 25 8 3/8". If I had to pick just one keeper of all, it would be the 4" 625. Edited to add pic of 627 - not too many of those around. Would your friend be interested in trading that 6.5" 627 for a 5" 610?
  3. I have a 586 with a 8 3/8" barrel and I don't know how it shoots as I have never shot it. The only reason I bought it is because the blued gun with that long barrel just looks cool.
  4. I put one on ...relearned my reload thru dryfire practice.....went to a local match and shot poorly....noticed blood every where and found a hole in my strong thumb! If you shoot with a high grip (like I do) this release won't work for you. I have tried another extended release I bought from Dillion and I didn't like it either. I keep coming back to the factory release. I might try the SDM next, it is very much like the factory except flat with better checkering. All that being said I must confess that I load weak hand and engage the release with the weak thumb (factory, not hogue). good luck 41mag If you are interested in getting rid of the Hogue cylinder release I do have a SDM, Pinnacle or a Ed Brown. Maybe we could work a trade.
  5. What a great tribute to a shooter and a friend and thanks to all who replied. Bud would have appreciated it.
  6. From what I understand he was out at the range doing what he loved the most and had a brain aneurysm. There was nothing they could do and he passed on quickly.
  7. Bud Bond of Colorado passed away yesterday. He was a good friend and will be missed deeply. Dean Gomez
  8. How about just leaving it at Wheel Gunners. It looks good and it keeps it short and to the point.
  9. Custom made big butt grips ordered at the IRC (1st weekend in June) shipped and on my revolver by mid July with a phone call from Pat Hogue to let me know they were coming. Call Pat at Hogue and see if he can help with your order.
  10. Proven sight is the Bushnell, when it comes to bright on a bright day a Bushnell cannot be beat. I don't know much about the Aimshot but I always tried to steer away from sights that have multiple reticles, to many moving parts.
  11. I forgot to add that Burris has a new sight out that is like a Doctor sight but a lot cheaper in price and made out of metal and has a built in weaver base. I bought one but have not had the time to mess with it yet. I know the guy who did the testing on the sight and he would not bullshit me about the quality.
  12. Look for the older models Bushnell Halo Sight, somtimes you can find them at a reasonable price. Draw back is they are heavy but a great sight. Next look for an OKO sight and you can pick a new one from $185 to $200. I would steer away from any of the ones under $100 that are new as they will probably not hold up.
  13. And it is truly appreciated. If it will make you feel better I will bet you a $100.00 bill that you still kick my behind. Should be a safe bet.
  14. Wow.. I recognize my major load:-) The première were on a lev 3 competition, Sandaknallen in Årjäng (Sweden). The recoil feels great.. No problems with poppers:-) Thanks to Cooper 999 who have helped me a lot with advice!! Are you using 38 Short Colt Brass or 38 Long Colt Brass to acheive this load and do you have the over all length measurement.

  16. I just had this problem yesterday at Area 5 match and when I ran into Carmoney I told him what the gun was doing and he told me to check the cylinder as described above. When I got home at 11:00 last night I went down to my room and checked my lead in ramps and low and behold I had one lead in ramp that had a slightly higher peen than the others. I took a small file and cleaned it up along with all my lead in ramps. I went to the local match and the revolver was back to its old form going bang everytime I pulled the trigger. I to thought it had to do with the star as it was only happening on one chamber. I am going to clean up all the lead in ramps on all my revolvers and get a couple of MIM stops. I wish Mike had showed up earlier and that I would have had my file set with me. It would have made shooting the match in the 6" of rain that fell more tolerable with my gun running 100%. I have a revolver off to a gunsmith that was doing the same thing and I think I am going to call and have him send it back and I will check the lead in ramps. I wish I had known this before I had sent it off.
  17. Bubber Mike Homm cannot make the nationals and I already have reservations at the match hotel if you would like to bunk with me it would help with the cost . If not I am going to change my room to Motel 6 for $40.00 per night and that is about the cost for the match hotel if split 2 ways. Let me know. Dean
  18. Hogue Big Butt no finger grooves fitted by Pat Hogue at the IRC and then built to my specifications. The rubber big butt is also offered by Hogue. They were selling them at the IRC this year Carmoney picked up a set.
  19. Yea, Clark did my 686. Althought they did the work as advertised, I wasn't too happy with the whole experience (tool marks, plus long wait time). I think that moonclips.com has drawings, and you can take them to any gunsmith. I thought it would be a fast reload (like 625), but I was wrong. I had lots of problems, and I think only some of them are fixable. 1. moonclip price - ouch real expensive. If you're rich, no worries. 2. moonclip fit - getting brass and moonclips to match is difficult. I've heard that if you buy the right brands of each, they fit well, but it's a pain in the butt. If the fit is too loose, the shells flop around a little, and don't line up right to drop in the cylinder. Sort and measure your brass and moon clips - no worries. 3. Short Colt - using 38 short colt fixes a lot of the 'floppy cartridge' problems, since they are shorter. However, making minor is 'on the edge'. I get a little primer flow sometimes. Watch those pressures! (maybe get the 38 super cylinder). 4. Too much cylinder, not enough hole - the 6 shot moon clips don't easily drop into the cylinder. Round nose bullets help some, but when you 'toss' the clip at the cylinder they don't always drop right in. Champher the cylinder helps too, but not enough. The 625 (.45 cal) are fast, you just throw the clip at the cylinder and go. I'm not sure how quick the .40 revolver is.. but it's probably better. The 686+ is a 7 shot, so the clip might more easily find it's way home. Try this recipie for the 38 Short Colt, 150 Master Blaster 38 Special sized .357 ( http://www.masterblastersbullets.com ) Moly coated bullet, seated at 1.175 and 2.8 to 2.9 grains of Vihtavuori N310. The 2.8 should give you about 825 fps or 123 power factor and the 2.9 should give you 850 fps or 127 power factor . When I ventured into the 3 to 3.1 grains the extractions started to get a little sticky but no pressure problems with the 2.8 to 2.9 grains. The reason for the long seating is to compensate for the long profile of the bullet.
  20. If you are not in a big hurry just watch www.gunbroker.com and a sweet deal will come by. I just picked up a brand new in the box 625-8 with a 5" barrel for $516.00 and $25.00 shipping. Now I have a back-up for my 625 PC, I just need to start working on the trigger and get a few kinks out of her and she will be good to go.

    AREA 5

Any revolver shooters shooting on Saturday?
  22. Does anyone out there know if they are shooting USPSA/ICORE matches on the 4th Sunday at the Milan Rifle Club, 9221 51st Street West, Milan, IL? If they are what time do they start and are they holding one on 6/24/07?
  23. Put my slot in the mail today. I am all but there.
  24. D. Gomez is in , I just was offered the slot from our local club. So everyone should move up one on the waiting list. At best I should scare at least the beginner shooters.
  25. This from the man who took "1st Place Open Outlaw" on Sunday. Great shooting Dean! After seeing Dean use the North Mountain moon holder, I am convinced that anyone, no matter what level of skill or intelligence, can use this product effectively. Well I got to admit the first time I tried it on I had it upside down and everytime I went to do a reload I had to stand on my head. Didn't take me long to figue that one out.
