  1. Old thread aside... my APEX flat faced trigger kit pulls at exactly 2 pounds
  2. Call APEX - their customer service is awesome. They'll answer any questions you might have.

  4. My battle rifle is a Colt Socom II. My competition rifle is custom built and 4 pounds lighter.
  5. Get the trigger. I got the spring kit, then added the trigger later. Parts aren't compatible, so if you go that route, you'll spend something like 100 on the spring kit, and 160 later on the trigger kit. The apex trigger is night and day better than the stock one. You won't regret it.
  6. If you're getting a light weight bcg, don't forget you'll need an adjustable gas block to get the benefit from the lower mass.
  7. https://ballisticadvantage.com/18-inch-223-wylde-spr-fluted-rifle-length-ss-premium-barrel.html It's fluted
  8. First, try your current rifle, see how you like it in competitions. Just put on a $40 miculek comp and go nuts. I put my 3 Gun rifle together for $1200 (on black friday a year and a half ago). Weighs in at 6.5 lbs with optic. If i were to do it again, i would've gotten the 18" rifle gas ballistic advantage barrel (they were sold out everywhere at the time)... but whatever. 9. I use Superlative Arms's adjustable gas block, and I love it. There are a ton of lighter bolt carrier groups, and I use the Brownells one, it was $110, at 8.3oz for the whole bcg. Look through the forums, there's a large thread about lighter bolt setups. Found the forum link:
  10. A lighter bolt setup without adjustable gas won't be much of a benefit. The new parts, adjustable gas block, lighter bolt carrier group and JP SCS, together will make a huge difference. Side note - you don't need the JP SCS spring kit - the stock one is just fine. When you buy a new one, you're also paying for the time it took for them to build it. It's almost always less expensive to do it yourself, and it's full custom build then too.
  11. Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to build one? Anything with a decent barrel, lightened bolt carrier group, and adjustable gas, will be more than sufficient for 50-300 yards.
  12. From what I've seen, 50 is the most common, but it all depends on what ranges you usually shoot. After you've picked a range to zero at, as long as you know where you'll hit at different ranges you'll be fine regardless.
  13. The MOA/Magpul stock is great. I love mine, and its adjustability. I've seen different butt pads, but no other stocks (other than a reduced size version of the original).
  14. The apex trigger kit and gunsmith fit barrel make a HUGE difference. Super happy with it now.
  15. MOA uses a "modified housing", so you have to use theirs. They're out of stock due to the lack of available housings, they have the lifters. If you look carefully, there's a groove cut out for base part of the two piece lifter. From their website: " Our Lifter system comes with a lifter, Actuator, spring, and modified trigger housing. Simply transfer your other trigger group components from your old trigger housing to the modified unit using the Youtube video link in the instructions, or send it in for FREE assembly"
  16. I had the exact same issue, with the exact same gun. The issue isn't ammo related. Took it apart, reassembled it, added a stronger trigger return spring, and it started working perfectly afterwards. Not sure if the trigger return spring did anything, or if whatever wasn't perfect the first time was corrected in the reassembly, but it works as it should now.
  17. Like everyone has said, first match or two just shoot with what you have, then see what others are using/doing. Also, consider if you're doing it for fun, or if you're going to seriously compete. Another thing to consider, if you're looking at getting a new handgun, is if you'll also be shooting USPSA - and if so, which division. What I'm getting at is, if you want to also shoot production or limited or whatever in USPSA, you may as well get one that fits that criteria, and use it for 3 Gun also - rather than having a 3 Gun handgun, and a USPSA one. The safariland ELS belt is amazing. It's also an investment. Not in the fact that it'll ever pay for itself, but because ever little clip, connector, accessory, adds up, and it gets expensive, quickly. I use Uncle Mikes Double Stack Double Mag holders, and got them to fit on my ELS system - for $17 each, you can't beat it. Taccom shot shell holders are great and inexpensive (by comparison). If you decide to buy shot shell holders, consider if you'll load 2 or 4 at a time, and buy accordingly. I loaded 2 for a year, and switched to quads, and now have 4 deuces holders sitting around collecting dust. Just wear cargo shorts or pants and carry your extra AR mag that way, or spend the $33 on the safariland holder. For rifle, use whatever one you find more accurate, then add a $40 Miculek compensator, and you'll be set. People who shoot in these competitions will be more than happy to let you look at their gear, try their gear, etc... it's a very welcoming community. Don't be afraid to ask a ton of questions and try things before you buy. Be sure to practice loading your shotgun with dummy shells - that's where you lose the most time. Most importantly have fun, safely.
  18. Has anyone tried or had any luck with the 7/8oz aero slugs from Fiocchi? I've only ever used 1oz slugs in my Stoeger so far. Thanks
  19. I put mine on my stoeger, and love it. I agree with what was said earlier, that it needs to be broken in a bit, but it works great. Load fast (or normal speed) and it works perfect, slow loading seems to get the fist shell stuck. The install takes maybe 15 minutes, mine took 30 because of that damn riveted pin not wanting to move... My only complaint, the lifter itself comes in more than it needs to. If they were custom designing a new one, why not make it extended? That said, it was a worth while upgrade... especially considering my lack of shotgun skills, this'll be a welcome time saver (plus the cool factor)
  20. You can leave the pin. I did. Also, if your castle nut is stuck, and you ever want to use a different system, you'll be screwed if you damage the pin. Just leave it, it's fine. It comes with the 85, and if you want any other springs you'll need to buy the kit, or possibly check ebay.
  21. There's a spring kit you can buy. The stock spring is the 85%, the kit comes with an 80, 90, 95, and 100 i believe. I put the 80 on because I have an adjustable gas lock and light weight carrier. You don't need it, the stock one is just fine.
  22. Sounds like you're better off leaving it. There is no disadvantage to leaving it.
  23. Here's some actual data: https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2016/04/jeremy-s/ar-15-drop-in-trigger-roundup/ Personally, I went with the Timney 3lb single stage drop-in, and I love it. Zero complaints.
  24. You can absolutely install it on your own, but you need their trigger group housing, and they're all out. Just watch the youtube videos they posted, and it takes about 30 minutes. Getting that damn riveted pin out was about 10 of those 30 minutes. The autoload is pretty sweet, you just need to load the autoloading loading fast, otherwise the shells will get stuck if you do it too slow. Beyond that initial loading, it's exactly the same as before. Break in was just useage (and was only the extractor not extracting every time). About 100ish+ and it extracted every time like it should. I eventually spent the $20 on the benilli extractor and you can actually see the difference. Absolutely worth it. It being an inertia shotgun, you need heavier shot loads, so I've only used 1&1/8 7.5 birdshot, and 1oz slugs (the federal low recoil 1200fps ones work fine).
