  1. You can get a Redding carbide gx push through die that will allow you to do so with loaded ammo. Or just push all your brass through first and then reload with a lee u die. I pick up brass at my local police range for free and run all of that glock brass through that very same process and haven't had one fail the plunk test yet. I loaded over 40,000 .40 cal this year!
  2. You have just unlocked massive information data! Welcome!
  3. I also use the hornady press. I recommend getting a lee u die for sizing. If you get some glock fired brass you will be happy you did.
  4. You have found the right place! Enjoy!
  5. If it were a few bucks cheaper then they would not be able to afford to sponsor matches or even individual shooters. By buying from that supportive company, you are part of those sponsorships. Some of which help junior shooters compete at a level that their respective parents just simply cannot afford without the help. Spend the money and be part of something bigger.
  6. Is pushing through from base to mouth the best way? I use a Redding gx carbide push through die but I have always fed it mouth first.
  7. Welcome, and lots of safe blasting.
  8. I would not buy one for fear of ammo trouble. If you use a back up it should be as close as it can be to being identical to the first one. In that case, if the ammo won't run in the first, it won't in the second 10:1. Listen to hi power jack and spend whatever you need on making the best ammo possible.
  9. The parts were not custom just tuned by Springfield, does that still constitute a foul?
  10. I feel that it largely depends on your equipment. If it is a proven reliable gun and you are comfortable installing parts like firing pins, extractor, etc. then just keep some spare parts on hand. Magazines are the same way in keeping clean and good springs. It's like Murphy's law, if it can happen, it usually will at a larger match. I myself before a bigger match just do a complete disassembly and inspect components, replace as needed and shoot a local match to double check. I carry a bag of tools and parts kinda like a gun first aid kit and have not needed to grab a second gun.
  11. The younger they start, the quicker they learn Sarge. My son started coming to the matches to just watch and pick up brass for a few months, he then learned how to keep score and went with me to RO class. While at a state sectional he got to talk with Jessie Duff and then he started like I stated above. Clearing malfunctions is the one thing that has to be learned on the fly. I personally love seeing juniors as long as they can handle themselves safely.
  12. Sig Max is the way to go. EGW fire controls, dawson ice magwell, love the gun. Buy some .625 extended base pads for the mags and you too will love it.
  13. I started my son on .22lr and left him on it until there was no flinching or jerking and he could keep his eyes open while shooting. Running him through stages with an unloaded gun making him air shoot targets while watching finger and muzzle until it became programmed. He did that for almost 6 mos. before I bought him a Springfield Armory 5.25 competition 9mm. He won high junior in production in his first level 2 match and after a year went to single stack using a Sig max in .40. He won high junior and 2nd C class in his 2nd level 2 . Watching young people mature when they are exposed to being around a much older crowd is very cool. They seem to be more level headed and have better control over their emotions as well. The shooting sports are a great venue for young people. Wish you and yours the very best of experiences together!
  14. Great to know. Thanks for the information!
  15. I started with a 5 inch xd tactical. Springfield Armory is a great way to get your feet wet without the high cost of 2011 guns.
  16. Springfield custom shop will do trigger work parts & labor about 150 and it should still be considered factory as it is covered by their warranty.
  17. I like to spend my hard earned money with the people who give back to their customers. DAA, dawson precision, etc, etc,. Superior products teamed with a give back to the community attitude is the only way to be. I won't ever be more than a hobbiest in this sport , but my 12 year old may and in everything I do , I try to teach him this same principle.
  18. 180 bbi with HS6 6.7 coal of 1.190 makes 171 power factor out of my Sig max. 17lb main spring and 12 lb recoil spring
  19. Bought a CRP edge from Dawson Precision. Very happy with it. I drilled and pinned the grip safety, did a trigger job, minor polishing, and tuned to my load. As close as you can get to custom without actually buying custom. Great gun for the $.
  20. Can't get pic to upload. Anyone wanting pics can pm their email address and I will gladly send pics
  21. Don't worry...the wheels eventually run you over lol. Youth is to be cherished.
  22. We paint the front star for no shoots! Very fun!
  23. 18? What power factor is your load? 18 lbs seems a little much.
  24. That is a very cool gun. Awesome machine work
