  1. 2011 guns are by far more "tunable " as you called it. It in comparison to the glock is a lot like going from a datson pickup to a Superduty Lariat. A completely different arena. Shoot a 100 rounds out of one and you will be foaming at the mouth until you get one. Good luck with your purchase.
  2. That's one of those questions that just depends on whether you want to pay now or pay more later? I look at big purchases in this manner: if I ever need or want to sell, how can I best ensure the least amount of loss? Most of the time the answer will be to spend more now and suffer less later. The STI Edge is a very popular gun for a reason and should you want or need to sell it will be a much easier transaction. I have not seen many RIA s at the top of the nationals.
  3. That is a great point. It's nice to be able to use the same mechanics when switching between divisions.
  4. I have also been contemplating the subscription or sponsorship program. It is a great idea and I like the fact I wouldn't accidentally forget to order on time. I normally buy 8 to 10 cases at a time and have run out once not having checked my stock pile. Let me know how if it goes. I have 5 cases of 40 fight now and am looking to sign up around january.
  5. Yes. Took 2 months off once. Did one dry and one live practice before shooting a match and had a good run. Mentally the pressure to succeed was not as precedent, I shot relaxed and had a great match. Guess I figured I had been off for a while and just focused on shooting smooth and clean. Speed was good and not a focus which is the way it should be. Remember that it is supposed to be fun. Practice is supposed to be hard and on game day just let that practice go and relax and have fun, compete, but without the pressure. Hope that makes sense.
  6. We have been playing tic tac toe. Printing out on the computer using 2 inch squares. Any hit touching the line doesn't count. It's fun and we mix it up setting par times double taps etc. We started playing at 7 yards and move further back . We have even installed marker caps into the squares center and you have to call the cap before you shoot. Lots of fun and will aid in accuracy.
  7. Maybe those clubs can start a change in the political think tank for your state. Guns are about the only thing going great in our state .
  8. Blackhawk or double alpha make good holsters for the 1911
  9. Welcome to both the forum and shooting sports!
  10. I have used the orange on a xd tactical and liked it very much. Just be sure not to let solvents get on it. It will eventually release the orange. I had to replace one already.
  11. I can get 21 in 3 of my MBX. Not 22 though and not reloadable. I love the reliability of MBX... if I could buy a mag that would hold 22 at legal length and were reliable I would. I shot a TN sectional a few years back that had 2 stages where that would have been awesome. A guy in our squad had 2 mags that came with his gun from Brazos that held 22 but he thought it was just a fluke.
  12. Thanks for the advice. This is especially true about the box for single stack also. Just because its a 1911 doesn't mean its legal in competition. No one wants to get bumped to open, or go home.
  13. Praying that God helps and protects those who are volunteering to help in the recovery efforts. Stay safe to all!
  14. Coated bullets are almost always restriked after the coating is applied. I have gotten batches that were supposed to be .400 and were actually .4015 and sent them back they acknowledged the restriking dies had worn out and they fixed them and sent them back to me. Problem solved. Other issues could be mags like previously stated.

Dawson is the way to go for sure as taadski said. They are very helpful.
  16. Cool! We are thinking about getting into that division also. Finding powders that give good results in multiple applications is key to keeping expenses and space under control. Powder may be a less expensive component, but every dime I save is another bullet bought.
  17. Excellent information! I will be ordering some. Thank you
  18. Thanks RAP! Did you notice any grievances in how clean/dirty the gun was after testing? Results look great. Did you shoot any groups and if so which powder charge was most accurate?
  19. Most all coated bullets will tolerate mild crimping. I have not used acme but the blue bullets and bbi work fine. Go to acme web and they should provide you with coating info and maybe even some loading guidelines
  20. I only expand enough to allow the bullet a place to sit without falling off, or when belled it still fits only slightly snug in my chamber. I use lee dies, but don't have any trouble with shaving coated bullets. I have loaded tons of bbi and blue bullets. Make sure you are seating straight and like mushki25 said if if doesn't lead your barrel, it may not be a problem.
  21. Bought as crp hard chrome edge from dawson. Love it! I deburred, pinned the grip safety polished it up , set the trigger to 1 lb 12oz , and have absolutely had a blast shooting it! Had a friend buy a Brazos full custom, but he waited several months and spent about a grand more or so for it. I bought MBX mags also. Personally never shot a Brazos, but that's my 2 cents of opinion on the Dawson CRP
  22. It is! Welcome! You can read a lot about those guns by search.
  23. Welcome to the forum! I am not smart enough to answer that question but you should post it under the gunsmithing section. I am sure you will get lots of input then.
