  1. Thanks for the experienced suggestion! I've heard of the czechmate but never looked into one. I'll start doing my research! Edit: You're running both minor and major loads with the gun configured the same?
  2. Thanks Scott. All great info! Any suggestions on a gun that could be 'dual purpose'? I'd like something that I could shoot minor now and major later without having to go to crazy changing things around. And my limited experience makes building one seem like a challenge. Sorry if the question seems naive. I'm still in the learning process
  3. I'm considering purchasing a Tanfoglio Gold Custom Xtreme or Gold Team in the off season for next year. I don't reload yet so being able to use it for Steel Challenge with factory loads at first, then switching barrels and the recoil spring to shoot 9 major when the time comes was a big selling point for me. Does anyone have experience with this gun? Is it reliable? How does it shoot 9 minor loads? Is the Gold Custom worth the extra $1000 (after you factor in optic, mount, mags, etc) over the Gold Team? I realize there are more popular options as far as open guns go but I had the chance to hold a Gold Custom and really liked it. Is there anything I should know to talk me out of the purchase? I'm new to open guns so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  4. For me personally, on outer limits, it's faster to get on the back rectangle when enter the box than it is the plate. I try to time it so my sight picture is up and ready as soon as my feet are planted.
  5. East Coast Steel Challenge Championship is the last weekend in Sept but it is just about full. I know Saturday AM and PM is on a wait list. I believe there is still a few openings for Sunday afternoon.
  6. Tag for some info. I've been looking into one of these too.
  7. Steel is fun but paper will keep you honest. If you can incorporate that somehow it could be beneficial.
  8. I use a G17 but I have big hands so it fits me better. If you shoot a G19 well then I don't see any reason to not run that.
  9. It's a lot of fun when you can see yourself getting better and watching that percentage grow. Hard work pays off!
  10. It seems like it's slowing increasing increasing near me. I hope it takes off. I really enjoy shooting it.
  11. I seem to unintentionally leave that out of my dry fire which has hurt me on a few classifiers. Find the dot is a whole new game WHO!
  12. I think that depends on the size of your hands. I'd say more importantly, make sure your index finger on your support hand is as high as possible, i.e. tight to the bottom of the trigger guard.
  13. I do the same! I'll use the bolt on one of my steel torsos as my POA. Adjust the sights, paint it up, try again.
  14. DP Custom has a sale on optics cuts for the month of June, $100. Pretty good price and they do quality work. Something to look into at least. http://www.dpcustomworksllc.com/
  15. Textured Talons on my game gun
  16. Guess I'm a little late for suggestions but for what it's worth I've always liked Aguila
  17. I'd say get the targets about the same height as the ones on the steel challenge stages. I think all circles are at 5'?
  18. I just started competing at the beginning of the summer. I'm shooting CO and loving it! Check out the DeltaPoint pro when it comes time to optics shop, I've been happy with mine.
  19. Are you saying if you don't make major then you're a no score for the day? You wouldn't just be moved to minor? Sorry if this is a stupid question
  20. I found these plugs online and though they're still in the early stage of production (kickstarter), I thought it was an interesting concept. Particularly the XpDefender Series which has a little toggle switch on them. I like in ear plugs and it would be nice not to have to pull them out when I want to hear and not spend the money that the electronic ones cost. What're your guys thoughts?
  21. I use them just because I like to reference them when shooting 1 handed. My presentation isn't the best 1 handed so they help me find the dot.
