  1. So I got some new magazines, tinkering around with them and loading them up. Noticed that I actually put a very faint ding into two casings with my uplula loader. These are blazer brass 180s. The dents are maybe the width of a ball point pen. Neither feels deep. We're talking like you can just barely feel them with a finger nail. It just seemed odd that the uplula would put that much pressure on a round to do that.
  2. Had that same Apache/Amazon Linux error page earlier today. Was using Chrome on an Android phone. Has been running flawless since about 6:30 or so this evening. Thanks for getting it all back up and running for everyone in short order
  3. I think if you're going to get a gun for the purpose of shooting Limited division you really should just get the 40 version so you can make Major and get the scoring benefits. 9mm might make it so you can just use the same ammo for both guns but realistically 40 factory isn't that much more than 9mm is. The resale ability will also be a little higher with a 40 because that's what everyone looks for mainly when they look for a used Limited gun.
  4. I don't own an Atlas gun but at the end of Adams videos he always says shoot him an email with any questions about maintenance or buying a used gun or whatever and he will try to help. I sent him a message regarding a used gun that was within my budget but was up front that an Atlas was out of reach for me. He was extremely nice, going back and forth about some details of the gun I was looking at and said that if x was my budget the gun I was looking at looked like a great deal. He didn't have to take the time to do that but he did. I think that link posted shows one extreme case where you also aren't privy to both sides of the story. I have no affiliation with either Atlas or SV but both have been extremely helpful whenever I've sent them questions (the gun I bought was built up from an SV frame and components and they answered everything they could for me)
  5. I'm not sure what brand of spring my gun came with because I got it used but one thing I noticed about the Wolff springs they were a little bit narrower in diameter. The Wolff might be shorter if its a little narrower in diameter. The different spring brands will look slightly different but both ISMI and Wolff make great springs so its just playing around until you find whats right for you.
  6. The factory spring was likely a 14 or 15. The 12.5 would be shorter. I just went the opposite direction and went from what looks like a 12.5 to a 13. Going to try a 14 as well but I'm running factory 40 so i need a little bit of a stronger recoil spring. If you're running a load built to just make uspsa Major the 12.5 will be perfect.
  7. I'll be on the third side of this. Buy the Atlas, order the SV. When you're ready to take delivery of the SV sell off the Atlas to offset the cost of the SV. You won't lose much (especially if you pick up a used Atlas) and then you get to have a sweet gun while you wait for an even sweeter one to be built. Please do this so I can experience an Atlas and an SV vicariously through this thread haha
  8. I just recently grabbed a pair of Walkers new silencer ear plugs. They worked great at the indoor range and handled the echo really well. They were very comfortable and also felt like they reduced the noise even more than a pair of 32nrr rated plugs I had been using previously. The cut of loud impulse noises was so quick and smooth it was unnoticeable. Only bummer is hearing aid batteries will have to be replaced pretty much before each range session unless i go back to back days due to the constant drain on those types of batteries. One thing to consider with the nrr ratings is they are just about meaningless if you can't get a good seal and as a result your actual decibel reduction could be more or less than the claimed number for your plugs or muffs. I also have a spare set of howard leight passive earmuffs to go over my ears if something happens to my electronics.
  9. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on what may be a little piece of history. Would definitely be cool to figure out who A&B are though.
  10. Certainly looks interesting with the uspsa target and popper laser etching in the slide. The real Bomar sight is another hint that as you say it may be old school. Neat find
  11. Z87+ is in reference to an impact rating given to glasses. Z87 is the minimum z87+ is definitely the preference for shooting sports imo. I'd take a look at Oakley and Rudy Project shooting glasses. They're expensive but totally worth it. You can catch some great short term sales on oakleys from time to time on midwayusa and even some of the rolling deal sites
  12. Better they caught the issue and fixed it at the factory than sent it through and have you buy it only to have to battle through function checks and troubleshooting before sending it back to the factory. You could call them and confirm that is what happened if you have some reason to believe something nefarious took place. Other than that if it runs well, seems like it doesn't hurt anything that the numbers don't all match.
  13. From my perspective I would shoot what you have unless you are like me and started getting into the sport without already owning anything. If you go the route of getting a full size gun that is similar to the carry gun you started with but all the while you're wanting a 2011 platform to my mind you're building half a bridge. Sooner rather than later you'll be wanting that 2011 again and be out 700-1000 bucks for that "hold over" gun in the process. It's never a cheap transition but if its what you want you might as well just go for it. Also, as always, the gear won't make you any better in the long run, but it may make it more fun for you, which may lead to you spending more time practicing.
  14. That Precision Delta looks pretty solid. I know people like their bullets, but how do you guys like their ammo? Definitely seems like a good deal and perfect for what I need.
  15. Thanks Jack and Mikeski. Yea, I am very quickly seeing the benefits to reloading (im saving all of the brass from our lesson and my wife shoots too and was looking at possibly doing icore with her revolver.) Well now I know what to look for in terms of factory ammo or custom ammo. I think for ease of mind I'll probably get factory ammo in 165 thats in the 1020-1050 range for claimed velocity. The issue with a lot of the professional reloading outfits is many won't deliver to my state MA because of our idiotic restrictions. Now seems like a good time to start researching which press will be best for us. Thanks again
  16. Hey all, I did a search and couldn't quite find the information i was looking for so i apologize if this is old hat for a lot of you. I've got a uspsa lesson set up for next saturday and then my first match on that Sunday. I've been shooting Federal 180 grain fmj from walmart but since I'm going to need quite a few rounds it seems like its a good time to do a bulk order and stock up a bit. Anyways what are some good factory ammo options that will make major (I know making major won't really matter, but I'd like to get as much of the real experience as possible). Should I be looking at ammo in a 165 gr load? How close can i expect the advertised velocities to be? Or will that vary by manufacturer? Oh, my gun is a 2011 in 40 with a 6 inch barrel. Thanks a ton guys
  17. I believe that Glock did some engineering to make that an option (just shoot 40 in the same barrel). I wouldn't recommend it with any gun, but certainly not in a 2000+ competition gun. Just easier to get a 40 sw barrel and shoot without worrying about wear and tear
  18. Adjusted the sear and trigger bow part of the sear spring and the hammer follow is gone. The sear spring Thats in there looks to be the Colt variety so I'm going to just get another couple of Those. One thing I was thinking was the gun in question was used and the previous owner had the grip safety pinned. I removed the pin and I'm womdering if maybe that could have thrown off the tensions on the sear spring?
  19. Any preference of the Colt (by EGW) sear spring or the Wolff sear spring?
  20. I've got a similar situation occuring now with my 2011. The hammer will intermittently follow the slide. Doesn't seem to happen when the gun is horizontal, but seems to happen maybe 1 out of 3 times when the gun is pointed down and the slide is dropped. I'm hoping its just the sear spring. When replacing the sear spring whats the best way to get the right amounts of tension on the sear spring arms?
  21. With Rudy you do need to be careful because the metal frame the prescription lenses sit in will scratch the polymer sunglass lenses if you're not super careful. I think it has to do with how close the prescription lenses sit relative to the sunglass lense. I think Rudy has the best prescription insert available though.
  22. Hhhmmm, I'll have to check my mags when I get home but I'm pretty sure they do not have the slits. Certainly does seem like that would effect durability.
  23. They all ran when i took them out. I'm just wondering what i can do to maybe get the angle on the rounds up ever so slightly. I'm running factory ammo as i don't have the ability to reload at the moment so I'm just looking to get everything to run as smooth as possible. Right now everything feeds perfectly fine, but they are meeting the upper portion of the ramp on the first round, the subsequent rounds all seem to go just about directly into the chamber with a little bit of ramp contact. No failures to feed in about 300 factory rounds from myself and 50 factory from the gentleman I bought the gun from. Just wanting to take what steps I can to make everything as slick as possible basically.
  24. So the Dawsons will just add some space but not capacity in the 10 round mags? Just need a little space to get the right angle on the rounds into the chamber.
  25. Which of those followers will not add capacity?
