  1. I've seen .22's on the shelf at the local Walmart twice in the last 3 or 4 years. One day the clerk was pulling 50 round boxes of Rem. Thunderbolts out of a brick box and placing them on the shelf with a limit of three 50 round boxes per customer. The second time there was 2 or 3 one hundred round boxes of CCI's for $10 each. I only saw them that one time. Oh, went back to that Walmart the next day after the clerk was busting up the bricks and all of it was gone. There was a couple guys foaming at the mouth and buying three 50 round boxes at a time and running out there car so they could come back in and buy three more boxes each before repeating till it was gone. I saw them at the counter twice that trip before I left the store. These days I just load up .223 and go shooting. Piss on paying those prices for .22's.
  2. I had a couple slides machined for RMR's, taller BUIS and cerakoted by Primary Machine (fixed it) back in the late winter/early spring. All that took a couple of weeks shipping back and forth included (no idea what their turn around time is now). I know cerakote if great stuff. My P07 has been scraping in/out of that kydex/leather holster 2 to 4 times a day almost seven days a week since March and it still looks new. The factory finish on the P07 was shiny in spots by the time I had sent it to PM so the cerakote must be more durable than the CZ factory finish on those guns. I don't have a recent picture of the P07 but I look it over a couple times a day and field strip/clean/lube in every 7 to 10 days, or sooner if I get rained on or crawl around in the dirt/grass with it. Forgot I couldn't put a picture in from IE. Had to go to Google. P07 with the FDE slide, RMR, BUIS. edited to correct the name of the company that did the work on my P07. Sorry.
  3. I like slow burning powders. My best 9MM load is a 115 grain hollow point over 8.0 grains of Blue Dot. It's a compressed load but the groups are nice. According to the reloading data, it's still not a max. pressure load but the velocity (shown in the reloading data) is pretty fast, too.
  4. A blister. Does that count? Got some Hornady 9MM dies and put the Lee dies on the shelf as spares so I don't think that'll happen again. I used to work with a guy that got hurt reloading. I won't say he was following the rules as I don't run a progressive press, so I don't know what kind of owner's manual/instructions he ha access to. He's missing the tip of a finger (nail and all) and had damage to another finger. He was running his reloader (don't even know the brand) when he lost primer feed. The story I hear was he pulled the primer feed tube off and saw it was stopped up (primers in it, but not feeding down the tube). He grasped the tube between his thumb and pointer/trigger finger and rapped it on the bench/shelf by the reloader to knock the primers loose. It exploded. Tore his fingers/thumb up pretty bad and destroyed the primer feed tube.
  5. Should be easy to check with the (nearly) right sized drill bit and the pin out. I'll try to remember to do that when I strip the 85 down for refinishing.
  6. My Pre B CZ 85 doesn't have the same set up as that CZ75. My pins/detents are in the frame. Seemed much easier to get it apart/back together last week when i tore it down and put the new springs/pins in it. Good luck with yours.
  7. I leaned over and checked the scale calibration. Good after an adjustment. Then I set it for the charge I wanted for some .357 SIG ammo and started adjusting the powder measure, using the scale to adjust the powder measure and confirm the 5 or so random checks I do per 50 charges. I got the powder measure set correctly and loaded 350 rounds. A couple days later I went back to the bench and got ready to load a different load (don't remember what that was) and when I took a look at the scale the weight wasn't on 5 grains, it was on 10 grains. I grabbed a bright little flashlight and sure enough, 5 grains too much in 350 rounds of .357 SIG. I turned off the bright flashlight and started trying to figure out how in the hell I'd set the weight on 10 vs. 5. It came down to angle I was looking at the beam at and the light/shadows on the beam. If I didn't get exactly 90 degrees in front of it and put a light on the front of the beam a shadow from the weight screwed up my "perception" of where the weight was located on the beam. Then I got to work with the kinetic bullet puller pulling 350 rounds down. I split it up into 3 sessions. Now, every time I set that scale up I put the bright little flashlight on the beam and slide my chair over so I'm directly in front of it.
  8. The spring and safety detent is located inside the frame on the left side. Look in from the top and you should be able to see it. The spring runs back behind the pin (you can see in your picture) that holds the hammer pin in place. The spring pushes the detent forward into the safety to hold it in either the safe or fire position. Here's a link to the CZ Custom web site showing the part. If your's is worn or missing it's only $4.50. If the safety is worn they sell those as well. If the spring is broken/weak they sell those, too. One of the things I love about CZs is the availability of parts. When I was carrying M&Ps I got so tired of ordering a pin from one place and a spring somewhere else because it seemed no one ever had parts in stock for them. http://czcustom.com/cz-75-safety-detent-lhs.html
  9. I haven't shot in a competition since 1978, the eastern regional FORSCOM match at Ft. Meade, Maryland. I just enjoy shooting, working on my guns, fixing stuff, making it work better, reloading and getting the kids involved in shooting. My oldest has shown little interest in shooting over the years until just recently. Now, when he comes by for lunch we talk about guns and shooting. My wife thinks it's weird, sort of, because after all these years he's wanting to go shooting and talking about getting his concealed carry permit, etc. My youngest son and my nephew have been interested in guns/shooting since they were little. I'm still the only one reloading with regularity. My youngest son reloads his own .223 ammo but so far, very little handgun ammo. I've sent some e-mails to a large range/club NW of Richmond expressing interest in joining. They have a 2 to 3 year waiting list I hear. They have matches every so often I might be interested in having some fun at those. I'm one of those "guys" who would compete with the gun I carry every day instead of a handgun that I can't rely on when things go south. It's clean, it's oiled, it has back up sights, and the ammo "kicks", etc., etc. But it might still be fun.

    Staking tool

My CZ 85 had a long sharp gouge on the right side of the screw that displaced frame metal into the knurled side of the screw. I finally go it loose (had to use the thin bladed screw tips I bought to take my old Auto 5 apart. I didn't have any tips in my other two screw driver sets thin enough to fit that slot in the Pre B CZ 85. When I put the new springs in it I didn't try to restake it. Probably a good thing since I clean it every time I shoot (so I can inspect it) and I'm planning on a refinish job to spruce the old pistol up (so will be taking everything apart again anyway. But, it looks like someone just used a 1/4 inch metal chisel, didn't look fancy at all. The "tool" may be fancy, the mark it left in the frame isn't.
  11. Proper use of a good sling will help with the .308 recoil. My M1A and M1 Garand drop right back where I want them when I use that sling. Helps steady the rifle, helps manage the recoil.
  12. I've never crimped a rifle cartridge. Not .223, .308 or .30-06. No issues so far. Been doing it the same way (did change to RCBS X-dies a couple years back) since the late 70's.
  13. I've been buying them at local gunshows (5,000 small pistol about 2 months back). Maybe I should be buying more. Oh, I think they were $24 per thousand. I started to only buy 4 boxes but the guy had 5 sitting on the table so I bought them all. Good for all the small primer .45 acp brass I bought this spring and the rest for my .40 S&W and 9Mm reloading.

    No name cz mags?

I've read that Megar makes the CZ pistol magazines for CZ. The difference is you pay almost twice as much for the ones that say "CZ" on them vs. the ones that only say "Mecgar". I've bought several 14, 16 and 18/19 round Mecgar magazines for my CZ pistols and they all work great. Oh, I've gotten the 16 rounds ones on sale for as low as $18.95 each and the 19 round ones for about $28 each.
  15. My concealed carry gun for the past couple of years has been a P07 in .40 S&W. The most accurate plastic framed gun I'd fired till I got my 9MM P09 (and the P09 is only slightly more accurate, I think). I have a new P01 9MM that I may be carrying more once I get a good IWB holster for it. It's not a weight issue for me, it's the feel of that P01 in my hand. Those soft rubber/factory grips seem to just glue that thing to my hand. We (wife and I) liked the soft rubber grip feel so well I ordered a set of them from CZC for her CZ75 Compact. The CZ75 Compact is noticeably heavier in your hand than the P01. Not an issue, just a thing. The P07 seems more accurate than the P01 or the CZ 75 Compact. At least none of the P01 or CZ 75 Compact groups, so far, have matched my best P07 groups.
  16. I've only replaced one extractor (old Pre B CZ85). Drove it out from the top and put it back in from the bottom. Mine was tight from the time the pin entered the hole in the bottom of the slide.
  17. I don't mess with the decocker pistols. I do have a new P01 Urban Gray pistol and the more I handle it the more I like it. I took the decocker stuff out within about 15 minutes of getting back to the house and put the safeties in. One thing about it, if you decide you prefer the decockers you can put them back in (they say the little spring is tough to get in just right (don't lose it, put it in the little zip lock back with the decocker levers). My oldest son is looking for a P01 with the Omega trigger set up. He hasn't even shot the new P01 but he's shot my other CZs and that's enough to make him want the P01 for his concealed carry pistol.
  18. I've not used off set iron sights but I have a couple rifles with SUITs on them. I zeroed at 25 yds. (nice little dime sized ten shot groups prone) and then went to 300 yds. to find the group was way off to the right (it really never occurred to me till then that it would be wide right since the objective lens of the SUIT is offset to the left). I moved the group over to dead center at 300 yds. and found the group was only 1/2" off to the left at 25 yds. On up close makes the group farther off at distance. On at a distance makes very little difference up close. If I had to zero a set of offset BUIS up close I'd try to measure the offset from muzzle to front sight blade tip and offset the group at 25 yds. that far. Then take it out to distance to confirm and make any further adjustment.
  19. I got mine from Charlie's Surplus a few months back. Brand new GI it appears. I don't know if they have any left or not. I'm 6'3" tall with long arms but I prefer the A1 stock of the A2. It's much more comfortable getting my nose on the charging handle with the A1 stock. If/when I build another fixed stock rifle it'll also have an A1 stock on it. If I run across them cheap enough I'll put them on my previous rifle builds, too.
  20. I really like the P07. Mine, so far, is much more accurate than my new P01 Omega (the urban gray model). But the more I handle the P01, the better it feels in my hand. The P07 feels good in my hand but the P01 is steadily growing on my. I ordered an IWB holster for it the other day from Cleveland Kydex holsters. When I get it I may start carrying it quite a bit. I have an RMR on the P07 and really, really like it. That alone makes it a better carry pistol (my eyes and sights) than the P01, but I still want to carry the P01 some.
  21. My 9MM P09 (and my .40 S&W P07) seem to prefer lighter bullets. I've tried several powders and bullets in 147 grain in my 9MM P09 and not been impressed with the groups. However, it just "loves" 115 grain hollow points from Delta Precision in front of 8.0 grains of Blue Dot. Yeah, a compressed load but still on the lower end pressure wise according to the manuals. Besides, I load for group size, not velocity. I have not, as yet, experimented with 124 grain bullets in the P09. With the .40 S&W P07 I've only shot 135 grain Nosler hollow points (also using Blue Dot powder - got the load from the Nosler website). I got lucky and found a load with Herco and Missouri Bullets 140 grain lead flat points that shoots to the same point of aim as the 135 grain Noslers. I'm getting ready to experiment with 180 grain lead flatpoints in the P07, but probably not till early fall when I'm done with a couple other reloading projects.
  22. No idea of number of rounds or previous replacement work but I recently bought an old (1988) Pre B CZ 85 supposedly surplus Israeli police use. While waiting on the gun to come in I bought a bunch of springs/pins (just in case). I took it apart the other day. Lots of light brown dust around the grip screws and under the grips. Lots of gooey grease/crud inside the pistol in those hard to reach places. The recoil spring and hammer spring were replaced. Couldn't really see any difference in the springs (wear/length) but the hammer spring (also replaced the hammer pin) replacement changed the trigger pull. No more (slight) stop before the sear released the hammer. It moves back, then releases. Can't feel that little stop I felt on it before or that I feel with my P07/P09 guns. The magazine release spring was compressed/weakened. The new one was twice as wide at the tips as the old one. The trigger bar spring was obviously worn where the bar legs rest on it. Big shiny spots with missing metal. I didn't see any loss of metal on the bottom of the trigger bar itself. The barrel is in terrible shape inside. Dark between the lands (multiple cleanings haven't gotten it shiny yet, but I haven't given up) with some pitting on the lands that is easy to see (with my eyes I usually take that as being pretty large pits.) No idea if that is due to neglect in cleaning or corrosive ammo use, but no sight of pitting inside the slide/frame. I also replaced the extractor/extractor spring and pin but I really couldn't see much difference between the new and old extractor. The old extractor spring was definitely shorter than the new one. The trigger spring was also much shorter between the tips of the legs. Getting the new one in was a challenge. I ended up cutting a small nail with a pair of needle nose pliers and filing it to length to use as a slave pin. Easy after that. I put the pin in the bag with the (spare) old parts. Could come in handy some day. I've seen minimum lengths listed for springs on other forums about other guns (M1A's, M1 Garands, 1911's, etc.) Is there a list or chart somewhere on CZ handgun spring lengths?
  23. New to the forum here from VA. A long time ago I was an Air Force brat and I suppose that marked me forever. The M1A that makes my user name has been with me since 1978. I do shoot other rifles more these days. Pistols? I was a 1911 guy from the first time I picked one up at the battalion combat pistol team try outs in 1978. Then a few years ago I decided I wanted a gun that I wouldn't feel bad about when I dragged it through the dirt, grass, gravel, concrete, etc. and started working my way through the plastic framed pistols. Suffered with poor accuracy (compared to my 1911's) till I got a CZ P07 and fell in love with it. It has been my everyday carry gun now for over 2 years and led to me buying several more. Got a lot to learn, but I'm still stubborn about some things....
