  1. Hey Geo.. nice to have you here...glad you can find time in your busy schedule. This is a great site compared to some of the others we have been on. Nice to be able to add your insight on guns along with Benny, Bob and the others..

    The Flu

Damn...take care of yourself..I got folks out at work for a week so far... hitting kids where we are..think there have been about 6 or 7 deaths on kids under 11 in the state.. big runs on vaccine too...even though heard it wasn't that effective against this strain..

    9x23 Advise

Caspian frames without the grips rock...very slim feeling.. I have been shooting 9x23 for about 3 years now...Super will fit..you may need to just readjust the tension on the extractor as it will be in further for the rimless 9x23 case. depending on how the chamber was reamed...you may have some initial troubles with your brass. 9x23 is slightly smaller at the case mouth and slightly bigger at the case head than super..
  6. Rocketman ( TitanD) ..YOU DOG..told you the Vanek trigger was all that..and then some..
  7. JL.. of your comp designs..what have you found to be the most effective..or does it makea difference?? nice blasters!!
  8. Me???? you gotta be kidding..the only thing I am sure of is that look I get from my wife..when I should of kept my mouth shut I was looking at some data charts and they had the same measurements that showed the same for all of what we were discussing.. if I get bored tonight. I'll go mike some 9x23 and others and see whats up..

    Sv Pistols

both are very trick...thanks for sharing
  10. Actually 9x23, 9SC, 38SC, 38TJ and 38 super are all .900 in length..your jams may have been in that 9x23 , because of the taper is wider at the rear of the case and smaller at the case mouth than its .38 cousins.. so if it was mixed in and fired..it may be difficult to chamber especially if your 38SC (super) chamber is on the tight side... well sounds like you are on your way...Starline was smart in changing the headstamp..trying to read the 9SC is very tough on the eyeballs
  11. Good luck...hope it all works out well..I haven't had any dealings with Baer..but have heard the gamut of opinions about them.. if you go with another barrel..I have had good luck with Kart, BarSto, EGW and Schuemann..my current picks would be Kart and EGW... let us know how it turns out..
  12. I don;t see any problems..if you met the course requirments as stated by the stage description, I would say you are in the spirit of the course of fire..just because its the way its always been done..doesn;t mean its the right way or the fastest way.. course you are now a gamer
  13. Steve.. it will function...You will be dedicating that brass to that gun..as the rear of the 9x23 case is bigger and your supercomp brass will swell to fit the bigger tapered chamber..your brass will fireform to the taper..which may be a bear when it comes to relaoding it. 38 super dies wil be tight and not sure how the 9mm dies will take to it. I think it is a compromise..but that is only because your chamber was not designed for the brass you want to shoot. That said..I have shot 38SC and 38 super out of my 9x23 guns and have no reliability issues..the gun ran fine. Idid not notice any problems accuracy wise either but heck..it was an IPSC/USPSA match..not the Bianchi Cup.... hope that helps a little.. also..the WIN 9x23 brass is a lot thicker..so load development will be different..but you most likely will work off your data that you have already..
  14. Ron.. I have/had a sti framed 9x23 bushing gun...and it carried fine, felt no real difference between that and a 5" .45..I stuffed mine into a Sparks EX and just made the leather stretch to fit.. The top end is going back to a singlestack frame and right now the frame has a 9x23 carry comp on it..which..also carries just fine..
  15. There is a gap that isn;t filled..but with all the big magwells..that shouldn't be a problem anymore..
  16. Not sure on which cut they use...I use to know.. if your slide is already milled..and you flat top..the rear should be ok, the front sight wont be tight on the slide as you lower the portion of the slide underneath the sight..so a space will appear.. I have seen some appoaches to this..where it is milled flat up to the front sight.. http://www.rogersprecision.com/id1.html Chuck Rogers offers one pattern..to do this..here it is combined with a flat top.but have seen it done the other way too..
  17. The STI one is aluminum..not sure of any other sources for steel ones..I had one made once to fit...otherwise I have two of the Z-man steel ones.. if you find a bunch let us know..
  18. Well....of course he would.. this topic sure went someplace...not sure where... of course..no one will shoot markedly better with a slicked up trigger job. These are just refinements that we choose to or not to do on our guns..mine are mostly tricked out because 1.) I can, 2.) I think it's cool.. but that doesn't stop a friend of mine from shooting a stock norinco from a IWB holster with no sights from waxing my a#$ all day long..course I have been practicing since then...
  19. Don't blame ya..my adventure into production in winter turned into a $$ project.. I like the looks of the Heinie race set that they have listed http://www.gunracing.com/Qstore/p000033.htm
  20. very cool..amzaing what a good trigger on a glock can feel like.. I got a G34 and had Charlie Vanek do a trigger on mine..it is amazing..breaks at 1.5 pounds with a nice short reset and takeup..also added a Dawson adjustable and FO front... it is trick.
  21. Ouch..tough way to find out...I have cross sections of WIN 9x23 and the supercomps and super...the Winchester is definitely thicker.
  22. So anyway... what is the configuration?? cone comp? bull barrel or standard? port holes? cut slide or full length? I just love this stuff...thanks Paul for any info..and I'll just sit and wait here for photos..
  23. Hi Paul.. got any details or photos of your new comp...sounds interesting..keep us updated on your thoughts..
  24. The holes will make the gun have little more felt recoil straight back and it will be louder..I have one gun with, one without both built by EGW. the guns are both set up to be light with short slides, 'cept one has two port holes. The one without has a little longer comp. Both guns shoot great..I am not sure which one I like best..the gun without portholes seems to bounce a little more, but it is softer in recoil and little heavier out front due to the comp. I can shoot both equally well..so my mind is not made up either..
  25. From my understanding and conversations with George (EGW)..9x23 is slightly tapered, same length, smaller caserim than 38 super..the case is slightly bigger than super and slightly smaller than 38 super at the case mouth. My 9x23 guns will chamber and shoot..9x23, 9SC, 38 SC, 38 super ( if I adjust the extractor ) and 9x21 and 9x19. My 38 super will shoot 9x23 ( if the brass is new, once it's fired it will not chamber) 38 SC and 38 super. don't think you are missing anything..they given tolerances..it is possible for them to all interchange..whether that is a good thing or not..that's up to you..
