  1. I can honestly say that I think I figured out where Mason and Phil got a job......
  2. Definitely- we have to keep in mind that the striker on a Glock is designed to "dead stop" against a primer or the inside of the channel. Most other pistols work in reverse of this since you are pushing/striking the firing pin against a spring that returns it to it's original starting point prior to firing.
  3. ^^This^^ It would be a real bummer to find out that the Stock III just wasn't what you were looking for. Then you would be buying a Stock II 2x and paying way more than you should.
  4. Nosediving. Is it nosediving on the first round of a full mag? Seems to be a chronic problem on 9mm single stack mags, even Mec Gars. Mine were 9 round mags and would always do it if inserted on a closed side, but would feed the top round OK if inserted on an open slide. The extra "smash" onto the round stack made it nosedive. On mine I put in some "+1" follower/spring sets to increase capacity to ten rounds and then they worked well as 9 round mags, but had the nose dive thing on the tenth round. The nosediving occurs even if you strip one or two rounds. This is a problem when loading to division capacity. I am sure it is a design issue due to being single stacked more than anything. Have you ever loaded any of these mags to 10 and then tried to strip a round out by hand? It is a pain. Honestly I don't see how this issue could be fixed without finding some way to keep the front all of the rounds pointing slightly upwards. The 9mm case being tapered does not help in the least bit. If it was straight (more like 38S, and 45 ACP), I doubt this discussion would be taking place. eta- I think the steep feed ramp on some of the 1911 patterns is partially to blame as well.

Though mine seems to do this more with HP's than FMJ. I picked up a Taurus 9mm 1911 from a buddy (I know, don't say it) that he had resorted to 9rd 38S mags just to get it to run OK. I bought a few of the Mec Gar 9rd mags and it seems to do better. I just bought a bunch of the Wilson ETM's but haven't had the opportunity to go out and run them all yet to see how they/the pistol performs. I have been running 115gr rounds, but will probably step up to 124/147 and see if increased length aids with feeding as well.
  6. That makes me think of the old pics Ruger did for the military pistol selection comps done way back, where they cut away a piece of the massive P-series slide to show how durable it was/what it could withstand. Sure wish I could find the pics!
  7. On my end it hiccuped for about 2 minutes, just after midnight (was stuck loading). much better than the 15+ min I had to wait for the site to come back up
  8. Years ago I started out doing mag changes down low while standing in front of a mirror just getting basic mechanics down. Later I refined things to where I drop my mag as I pull the pistol in close just at or below eye level so I never lose sight of the target I am engaging or am about to engage (I try to do this while moving as well so I can step into the next box gun up and ready to fire). Now I actually practice my mag changes in much the same way (right around eye level), but with eyes closed, standing on just my right foot, left foot, leaning forward, back etc. Totally out of my comfort zone to duplicate what may happen or go wrong during a stage. I have found that my mag changes just "happen" now without a single thought beyond a momentary "mag change" command in my mind when I feel my pistol starting to get a little light. 9. Are you seeing this with only the slide locked back? If you cycle the slide, setting the striker to it's pre-fire (?) position, with the slide full forward in battery then look down the barrel does it still protrude?
  10. I had someone ask me the same thing last Tues night, looking at his pistol I realized he didn't have magwell completely seated on the pistol, make sure that there are no gaps between the grip and the magwell when looking at it from the inside. The SSS magwells fit really tight, I just put one on a new pistol a couple of weeks ago and it took a mallet to get it completely seated. Don't try to seat it with the screw, it won't pull it flush. Once it's seated the TTI +5 (they're actually +6) fit fine. Just trying to physically force it into place by hand did not work at all (though this was with the aluminum SSS's). I basically had to do the "tomahawk chop" on the carpeted floor with both of mine to get them to seat. Note- I take no responsibility nor do I necessarily recommend doing this in the privacy of your own home or shop. I am not an attorney, nor a true gunsmith. And I did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.....
  11. We should know more around midnight tonight......
  12. at least you had magazines on your belt. What moto said! I have been loading my 140mm mags down a round because I had an instance where I made ready, and when I spun and drew on the buzzer had my mag drop right out. I thought I had the thing set and secure when I holstered but that wasn't the case. Of course that was on the initial draw on an El Prez style steel run, I was not happy at all.
  13. It happened again to me last night just after 12:00. I couldn't get on for over 15 minutes. Hell, I probably should have been in bed anyway!
  14. This is what I do. Helps me to index on the FS in my lower peripheral as I present/push the pistol out from my body. eta- this works whether I am shooting my 1911, M&P, or Glock.
  15. Then it is definitely nice to get a looksey ahead of a purchase! I don't have any issues with the platform either, I would just be wary of what might come out of an LE armory somewhere (the things I have seen that are burned into my memory- ugh). Buy if you are in the market and it meets your needs, then it is a bargain.
  16. I think if you are not using the correct commands, you'll have a tough time selling a command-related dq to me. If you point to the start position and tell the shooter "get in here and get ready" and he pulls out his gun, it would be a total dick move to dq him. Of course a smart and experienced and cynical shooter would look at you say 'I don't understand you, please use legal range commands'. I'm especially concerned with this when the start position involves staging mags and gun on barrels. It's easy to have a misunderstanding if you use anything accept 'make ready'. Since I started shooting again (and most recently at Rio- haven't figured out who Mark is yet), I can say I have witnessed a few foreign shooters in the last couple of weeks that have such a language barrier. They seem to know just enough to probably get by in the workplace (most likely mine), and are sometimes confused by straight forward/proper commands. Some can't even operate their speed holsters correctly (saw this last night). So far I have yet to have an RO at Rio give incorrect commands before, during, or after I complete a stage.
  17. You are a braver man than I am. My earlier comment about them being available for April's fools was mainly due to the fact that they were PD trade in's and the price seemed a bit excessive (to me). Granted I am not an expert on SVI stuff, but I just couldn't see paying so much for what would most likely be a used and abused piece that would most likely need a good tear down, inspection, and rebuild by a 'smith.
  18. I shoot either type about the same. It really comes down to ergonomics, and whether or not the particular platform actually "fits" my hand.
  19. Thanks for the link, obviously my search-fu needs a bit more work....
  20. I am trying to find any sort of data on 9mm Major and WSF powder. I have searched the forum (along with Google) and have come up empty so far. Is this even possible, or will I have to just suck it up and track down and pay a premium price for a powder that is more suited for it? Thanks!
  21. Wouldn't you know it, at 8:05 this evening- www.brianenos.com Driver Error There appears to be an error with the database. 22. I have had no issues outside of the time I listed above. My home computer, iPad and iPhone browsers have been perfect. Even Tapatalk has been very responsive.
  23. I have transitioned everything I have to plain adjustable/fixed rear and FO front. My eyes just aren't picking up small dots like they used to, and 3 dots/all black are just too difficult for me to pick up at speed anymore.
  24. What time is this happening? I know I get this at midnight AZ time, but figure the site is doing a quick back up that is preventing the page(s) from loading.
  25. Unless you're going to shoot 9 major, a comp doesn't work that well on minor power factor (if at all) I haven't used the factory ported model, but had my Core Magnaported and it works well. I have a non Core that is my 9Major gun to go along with my ported 9Minor gun. I will definitely be running major in 9mm. I will run my new Pro 5" in .40 for limited. It's been many years since I did any drag racing, and would like to try my hand at it again now that I am older, wiser, and a bit more patient.
