  1. I just bought a commander S&W 1911sc for carry as I am moving away from the Glock platform. I have found it to be absolutely perfect.
  2. I cycled through tons of "shooting glasses" and finally just started wearing my Oakley's. Can't find anything else that comes close.
  3. Greetings from roughly 2 hours north!
  4. When I start to feel burned out I take a break. I do things like pull out the bolt rifles and spend a day shooting off a bench. Or take the magnum wheelguns out and make some noise. Having other hobbies helps. Photography and biking seem to work well for me.
  5. I run it in 40, 45, 10mm and 38spc. Yes it is flashy. As a shooter I only notice it on extremely overcast days. I do not find it bothersome, in fact I find lead smoke screws me up more than muzzle flash. Not sure about the noise, I certainly don't notice it while shooting. Overall I have found it to be superior for my needs. Meters great and is consistent from lot to lot.
  6. I love mine for the rifles. I don't have to worry about wind, light or waiting for a ceasefire. Last I read they are working on a pistol mounting solution.
  7. This. I have tried forcing myself to do the elbows locked but slightly bent stance. I spent over a years worth of competitions moving backwards down the ranks. Finally one day I decided to throw it all out and go with what was naturally comfortable. Locking my wrists down does far more for me than doing anything special with my elbows.
  8. I like the way it smells when I walk out to score/paste after somebody else has shot the course with it.
  9. A year ago I gave up on trying to find Varget but I have to say, lately I have been seeing it on shelves everywhere. Not just small quantities either. Recently at Cabelas they had at least 50lbs on the shelf. I personally prefer 4895 in my 308.
  10. Primary comp gun is now a 2011. Carry gun is still a Glock 23. I shoot local outlaw matches with one Glock or another under the premise of keeping myself proficient with it.
  11. I have my 11.5 in 5.56 setup like this with a Seekins BAR. I still love the setup but sometimes I wish I hadn't forced myself to always run a can. I've run it pretty hard doing mag dumps, even ran it in a 3 Gun match. No temperature issues or anything else worth mentioning. It is just a solid all around home defense setup. I'm currently working on a 10" blackout with a flush mount can. The barrel had to be cut just right to fit it all together. We actually wound up destroying the MI handguard seen in this photo. It has since been replaced with a BCM Keymod, I don't have pics yet.
  12. When I don't lube cases the wife complains that I'm making too much noise.
  13. No oil at all for me on the 2011. TW25B on all contact surfaces. Rails, bushing, lugs, hammer, sear, disco. Whatever I don't grease I coat with BoreTech Shield for the RP.
  14. 1. I learned that I do better overall in matches when I am mentally trying to move up in classification vs mentally trying to beat another shooter. 2. Even the most experienced shooters with the safest gun handling habits can get themselves DQd. 3. My head isn't going to explode if I don't buy every piece of new gear I want on impulse.
  15. In bolt rifles, whenever I feel my groups are starting to open up. I'd say between 100 and 200 rounds. In ARs....maybe once every 500 rounds.
  16. Biking has helped me a great deal with endurance. Even if you don't have time to go out and ride, just a stationary bike somewhere inside will do. I've found that any "speed" I gain on the bike from doing HIIT/sprints doesn't translate at all into my legs while running a stage though. The last two months I have been working a punching bag in my basement, focusing primarily on jabs and footwork, quick stance switches etc. This has been a huge benefit for me in my last few matches. I still have a long way to go and I still walk away from every single match cursing myself for moving so slow. Having said that, my finishes are improving and people are telling me that my speed has improved.
  17. I started using the Fulcrum Ultimate several years ago and liked it so much that I instinctively bought a kit every time I bought a new Glock. Reliability has never been an issue. My confidence in them is strong enough that I even have one in my EDC Glock 23 (with the heavier spring). From day one with with my first Glock the factory trigger was the bane of my existence. I have soft girly hands and it does not take much to blister my trigger finger. The factory Glock trigger will do it after only a handful of rounds. The Fulcrum Ultimate I can shoot all day with no problems. Now there is one obvious negative worth mentioning. Up until the start of this last year all I shot were local outlaw matches. When I started pondering getting into IDPA and USPSA my division options were obviously very constrained if I wanted to compete with one of my Glocks.
  18. I went into my first 2011 expecting to have to tune and tweak everything to get it to run right. It ran 100% right out of the box with untuned magazines and continues to do so after a full competition season. On the subject of recoil, coming from a Glock I had more "tweaking" to do on myself than on the gun to get the recoil under control. That Glock grip angle just naturally forces you to lock those wrists down. I found myself allowing too much movement in the wrists after first making the switch. Switching out to a 12lb recoil spring did help. I ran a buffer for a while but eventually took it out.
  19. I personally found the weight trade off of a 16" to be worth far more than anything accuracy wise I was getting out of an 18" even out to 300 yards (farthest my home club goes). A couple years ago I did try running my 11.5 SBR....won't do that again.
  20. Spare room in the house. I would love nothing more than to setup in the basement and spread out but we get too much water down there for me to gamble on it.
  21. Power Pistol is all I use. I've had great results with it and no problem making major out of shorter barrels. Complaints about muzzle flash in low light conditions are a legitimate issue but not something that I have found to impact my shooting. I find smoke from lead bullets to be more of a distraction personally.
  22. I have KKM and Storm Lake barrels with no complaints about either. I've never done long range accuracy comparisons from a rest to see what if anything the aftermarket barrels offer. Don't expect to see any kind of difference at 10 yards.
  23. Mine are all 5.56 with Lake City brass. I use H335 for match/play ammo and get great accuracy out of it. When CFE223 came out I gave it a try and found it to be superior for precision loads. It works great for plinking too but mentally I've set it aside for precision shooting. As stated though right now it's more about what you can find if you don't have it already.
  24. Off topic from the mags, was it the slide serrations eating your hands when you slingshot or is the slide biting you under movement? I ask because my serrations were like razors from the factory and it took a few large craters in my fingers before I finally did something about it.
  25. Lately my main focus in the area has been USPSA at Ontelaunee in New Tripoli. I am also quite involved with a club in Mainville. The matches at Mainville follow their own rules and are generally pretty small.
