  1. I have had great results with the Black Bullets 135gr for 9mm, but not so much with the 180gr in .40 - for the .40 I use Blue Bullets.
  2. Very helpful. Feeling a touch foolish about never stopping to think what "reassign" was for...
  3. I have not done it yet, but plan to. Maybe to shoot for free, or to get into a match that might be really crowded and no other way in. Giving back and being a contributor appeals to me, and is the main reason I took the RO course in the first place. I contribute as an RO at a couple of clubs where I shoot regularly and have done some stage designs. The main reason I want to do a major though is to learn more, to watch and learn from seasoned ROs in a really intensive experience.
  4. Most people want to be good, but not too good, and not quite all the time. (George Orwell)
  5. Had a message on my phone telling me I was going to be arrested for tax fraud and criminal offenses and had to call them real quick. Ignored the messages. Then happened to be home when they called again. "Good morning. Bluster County Prosecutor's Office, how can I help you?" Click.
  6. Almost exactly where my load works out. 170-171, with 4.3gr of TG in a 180gr bullet out of my CZ TS
  7. I have the advantage of low expectations - I'm not gonna do better than middle of the pack regardless of division or power factor. So I shoot what feels like fun for me. Sometimes Production because the parameters are challenging, sometimes Limited Minor so I can load up the mags and play with 9 without reloading, sometimes Limited Major because bigger bangs and a few more points. Life is good.
  8. Don't burn your bridges if you're still standing on them. (Coined when my daughter quit her job in a particularly obnoxious way and then discovered the job she thought she was getting next was not what she was expecting)

    TRUISMS!

The fact that you're p---ed is not evidence that your're right. You can't do everything for anyone or anything for everyone.
  10. I've become a big fan of the CZ TS. Been shooting it in Limited for a few months now with pretty good results.
  11. Not long ago I chronographed some Freedom 180gr out of a CZ Tactical Sport and got an average velocity of 1011fps, avg PF 182 (177-186). Nevertheless, there have been some unhappy stories about commercial not matching expectations, so chrono is the way to go.
  12. New division every six months. Where do I turn in my RO card?
  13. No other proposed division would potentially require alterations in stage design that can change the game for everybody else. I'm not sure I'm willing to be an RO with rifles in the mix.
  14. I do the same thing, one in each glove. I most often use the toe warmers, actually. Good size in the glove.

    Which one?

    potato salad Mashed or baked?
  16. I have to replace all my certificates of compliance. They got ruined when i set my gun down on them after my barrel melted because I shot faster than full auto. Too bad 'cause those certificates could have made it to Nationals with a few adjustments.
  17. Recently paid that for 3000. Cleaned and polished but still... Argh. But good for you!
  18. Congratulations on a good outcome with those first rounds. I applaud your care and diligence in getting started. I'm trying to adopt a similar approach to the switch from a Lee turret press to a Dillon 650. Just ready now to get the powder bar set for the .40 load I want to try out. Looks like I'll have the first rounds ready to chrono over the weekend, if it isn't too cold. I guess you know you really ought to get a chronograph. You're probably good with rounds at the low end of the pressure range, but always good to know what you're getting.
  19. Three out of four mag pouches arrived today. One to follow when they get it in. Argh.
  20. So true. People were friendly enough, but showing up to help and sticking around to break down really makes you feel (and be treated like) a member of the club. Getting RO certification and doing some stage designs made it even better. Much as I love the actual shooting, that's only part of what I get out of it.
  21. Yes more stages, more prizes. Not necessarily better stage designs, but likely more elaborate, more targets - majors run at places with plenty of room where locals might have more limited spaces. Major matches tend toward 250-300 rounds (thinking ten stages or so). You won't be divided by class while shooting, squads are mixed. How far in advance depends on when registration opens and how popular the match is. Some will fill up almost immediately with a registration start months ahead of time. And one other thing - count on having your ammo chronographed. Need to be sure you'll meet power factor.
  22. I usually have a few pasters, and I don't hesitate to take care of an isolated missed target. That's a different thing from a squad that isn't taking care of business, and then I'll remind folks about what needs to be done. I haven't seen much of that, but occasionally some prompting is required.
