  1. I have run a number of new shooters. Without a fault every one of them has commented about how nerve racking that first match was. We will make it look easy and when they come to the line their brain shuts off and the adrenaline starts pumping. The stage ends and the emotional crash causes them to forget the rules of safe gun handling. I have reminded shooters that they need to drop the mag before they ULASC, or they need to holster the gun before I will let them walk down range. I have also stopped a few from breaking the 180 as they try to turn with the gun still in their hand, having forgotten all about it. ULASC is not a speed event. Take a deep breath and we will walk you through the commands. We know you are new, so we do not expect perfection.
  2. Original engine and parts. Bought it used but knew its history and owner. Diagram is located on the drivers side fender well. Reverse the position of the idler and the tensioner and all other parts are in the same location.
  3. While on the road today I lost my serpentine belt when the tensioner pulley froze up. OK not a problem other than it being about 20 miles out of town. Wife picked me up and I bought a new pulley and serpentine belt. Pulley goes on just fine but I cannot get the serpentine belt to wrap around all of the pulleys. It is about 1" to short. Drive back into town to see about getting a longer belt or see if I managed to get the wrong one due to some sort of numbering error. Auto store pulls out their manual and verifies that the belt is correct and then they turn to the proper page which shows the correct pattern for installing the belt. That is not the pattern displayed under the hood of my car. I draw out the pattern I was using and they match it up to the pattern used by the 5.0L V-8. My car has a V-6 engine. Apparently the data sticker under my hood is for the V-8 engine. They must of built it on a Monday or a Friday.
  4. You just started drivers ed and you are driving for the first time with a parent. The nerves and fear of screwing up will almost paralyze you. This is your first match. We your parents will not trust until you have earned it by demonstrating SAFE gun handling. It will take you a lot longer to earn that trust if you try to show off and end up crashing instead. We will not be impressed by your uber fast draw or how fast you can Unload and Show Clear. We will be impressed by safe gun skills.
  5. If you put a straight edge across the rounds, or if you place them on their bases are they flat? That is what matters in terms of them dropping on the floor. Otherwise you need them seated so that the firing pin cannot drive them deeper. The act of driving it in deeper robs enough energy to stop the primer from igniting. It sounds like you are seating them as deep as they will go.
  6. Most people are lucky if they get 20 in the mag. If it is that important to the stage, barney the 21st.
  7. 10.2.8 says to stipulate, which means it is written into the WSB so the answer is: No if the COF is a standards or classifier. 1.1.5.3 Standard Exercises and Classifiers may specify shooting with the strong hand or weak hand unsupported. The specified hand must be used exclusively from the point stipulated for the remainder of the string or stage. No if it is a medium or long course with the SH/WH specified in the WSB. 1.1.5.4 Medium or Long courses of fire may stipulate the use of either strong or weak hand, provided that only one hand, either strong or weak, is specified for no more than the last 6 shots required. Yes if it is compelled through the use of props. 1.1.5 Freestyle – USPSA matches are freestyle. Competitors must be permitted to solve the challenge presented in a freestyle manner, and to shoot targets on an “as and when visible” basis. Courses of fire must not require mandatory reloads nor dictate a shooting position, location or stance, except as specified below. However, conditions may be created, and barriers or other physical limitations may be constructed, to compel a competitor into shooting positions, locations or stances. .
  8. Is the wall/barrier part of the shooting area or outside it? One is legal the other is not.
  9. 21.3 After-market slides and barrels – provided they are the same length, con- tour and caliber as original factory standard. SLIDES: Current rules remain in effect – You may replace the slide with an OFM or aftermarket slide which is of the same length, contour and caliber as the original slide for that model of gun. BARRELS: Current rules remain in effect - you may replace the barrel with an OFM or aftermarket barrel which is of the same length, contour and caliber as the original barrel for that model of gun. Special Notes/Clarifications: For purposes of this interpretation, a barrel within +/- 0.1” of OFM is “the same length”. Barrels of the same length, contour and caliber but with different crown profiles are authorized.
  10. Either recrown the barrel or get an after market one.
  11. I would not call stop unless the helper walked up to the shooter while ignoring my arm that I have outstretched to keep him back. The shooter needs to either say he is done, or immediately claim interference.
  12. I've got maybe $800 in my SS gun. I bought it used and had a local gunsmith work it over. The same gun custom built new would run $1, 200 to $1, 500, so if you have a quality gunsmith in the area a used gun in great shape could save you a bundle.
  13. To my mind there are really only two options. Either the RO issues a procedural penalty to the shooter for accepting the offered magazine, or issuing a reshoot because the shooter claims interference when they notice the other party is holding the magazine they were going to run back for. The first option is at the RO's discretion Rule 8.6.2. The second would require a shooter who can think quick on their feet because they would need to demand the reshoot as soon as they notice the magazine in the other parties hand "because they intended to retrieve it themselves". The RO would also need to believe the shooter had that intent because the reshoot would still be at the RO's discretion. Rule 8.6.4
  14. That is exactly how I handled it when I RO'ed a couple of shooters with locked up guns. One asked if he could shoot it out, the other I told to him to just shoot it out. Both were probably rounds that were not sized down properly.
  15. Being as the stages are not published in advance, maybe they are planning on having several reworked classifiers at the Revolver Nationals. Reword them and give them a new number to keep them separate from the originals. Reintroduce a few more at several of the larger matches to at least get a baseline for the revolver shooters. There are several coming up with upwards of 12 revolver shooters already entered, so with a little backwards math they could come pretty close to setting the 100% level.
  16. There are very few dies out there that are not interchangeable. The standard is 7/8 by 14 threading. My 550 is used with dies from RCBS, Lee, Redding, Dillon, and Hornady. Those dies will work in pretty much every Dillon press except for the Square Deal which to my knowledge is the only press Dillon makes that uses proprietary dies.
  17. Like Jack said I would space out my test loads a bit more per increment. In this case you have 4.5 grains between low and high. I would load 5 at 39.5, 5 at 40.0, 5 at 40.5... etc. up to a max of 42.5. Then I would shoot them across the chrono so that you can verify velocity as it compares to the book. If they match pretty well to the book then you should be safe going up to 44.0 grains. You likely will not need to go that high. You will also need to check your groups at each load level. You will find that your groups will tighten up and then start to expand again. The range where they tighten up the most is the range you want to work with as you change your load by .1 or .2 grains to get the best overall group. You might also find the groups expanding a bit at one level but then tightening back up the next increment up. Now you need to decide which load felt the best. It will take some trial and error but once you get into the right load range it will be easier to develop the optimal load for your gun in .1 grain increments.
  18. The only classifiers that might count are ones shot since the last update. Even then unless you shot as a pending member they still will not count unless the uploader sends in a correction report that lists you as pending.
  19. Sounds like an alignment issue between your dies and the shell plate. Possibly the sizing die is stopping the ram from moving through its full stroke? Because of the mechanical linkage between the handle and the ram you are dealing with either the handle not moving through its full stroke, or the shell plate/ tool head being loose. Because it seems to work with the 9mm tool head my vote is a problem with the tool head itself or the dies inside it.
  20. Maybe just get rid of the distance requirement and stipulate that the gun must be attached to the belt with the backstrap not being any lower than the top of the belt or bottom of the belt? We can easily adapt to drawing from locations in front of the hip or behind the hip, above the belt or just below the belt. We do not adapt so well to reaching out away from our bodies. If I had a holster positioned so that it was 4" away from my belt I would tend to shove my hand into the space between the gun and my belt. At around 1- 1/2" to 2" my hand will come down on the butt.
  21. It is a tough definition to fix. Up to a couple of days ago it was facing the backstop so it is getting closer.
  22. It would make for an interesting arb question if it came to that. The key part of 5.2.5 says- — from the inner most surface of the belt equipment (against the pants/body) to the closest point of the grip of the handgun and/or any reloading device. The magwell can be considered part of the grip it can also be considered as a reloading device because it does assist in the loading of magazines into the gun.
  23. Magwell can also be considered a loading device.
  24. If the load is light it will not full expand the case inside the chamber. This allows some of the gas to escape past the mouth and towards the breech face.
  25. Give me a classic target with the line definition of a metric and I would use them a lot more often.
