  1. It is simple risk aversion. While not very likely that a handgun in a holster could or would go off when prone, there is a possibility of it falling out or somehow something get into the trigger guard. Again, very unlikely. But, the gun is in a bad orientation for an AD. So, the motive is to simply eliminate that risk. The other aspect is that many of our rules have to be applied to the lowest common denominator, or in simpler terms, a new shooter. That isn't mean to be negative or derogatory in any way. But I see guys showing up with sherpa and drop leg holsters all the time. I def don't want to be behind this guy while he is prone w a hot gun. And, it is easy to minimize or eliminate the risk. Have handgun unloaded for prone stages, making it hot after the initial draw takes seconds. And, if everyone has to do that, it is an even playing field. Shoot the pistol first and dump prior to rifle portion. Give shooters an option, go prone and gun is cold, one knee, it can be hot. Have the pistol staged on a table or prop after the rifle stage, shooter retrieves after rifle. I am not one of the safety queens that jumps on every little issue. But, this is one that is not that intrusive and is probably a good rule.
  2. Load the mags to capacity and let set for a few days. Shoot the heck out of it. Put at least 500 rounds through it of factory rounds. Keep it wet. Make sure the piston is clean and rings are free.
  3. Actually, I have been in contact with ILWT. Figured since it was their barrel, they would be the best source of support. Not a knock on Taccom, just that ILWT made the heart of the system. They have been super helpful and I think we may have the feed issues figured out. Will see. I don't think it will ever be as accurate as the AR9 barrel. Never seen a pistol barrel on a pistol or carbine that I could hit coke cans at 100 yards every time with.
  4. I've got two taccom barrels. One is the ulwt barrel for an ar9. Super light, flawless function and krazy accurate. Never expected that. At 50 yards inch to inch and 1/2 group. Have the lt weight mid comp barrel on my MPX. Super light, having problems getting it to feed consistently and not very accurate at all.
  5. Replace the mag spring. 90% of versamax ff are related to worn or too short mag springs
  6. Before you cut, polish, trim or do anything else, I would strongly suggest replacing the magazine tube spring. This solves 90% of the feeding issues in a Versamax.
  7. For drop in trigger groups mainly. No spring to fit in the pin slot.
  8. skip the barrel clamp. Not needed and it can cause problems with slug accuracy.
  9. Thanks. A source for dovetail mounts is prob the best route. Not it trying to create an open gun, just put an rmr on a 2011. Def don't want it frame mounted. Thanks.
  10. What is the cleanest and best method to attach some type of RMR to an STI edge? Don't want to mill the slide, but want to be able to have the ability to have an RMR. Which would be the best unit for this application? Burris Fast Fire, Leopold Delta Point, Trigicon LED, Vortex Venom, c-more sts? Thanks in advance
  11. For a Gibbz side charger, no diff. works like a charm. Clean to.
  12. Suggest you run about 500 rounds of factory loads and then go back to your reloads. Lots of people have a short break in period. Mine is sensitive to rounds with shorter oal. Some UMC factory is quite a bit shorter. It really doesn't like those.
  13. I just use my regular 3 gun bags. And stick a golf driver cover over the mag tube where it sticks out
  14. As a multi gun match, I think you will get better participation if you have stages that incorporate both guns. Running only pistol and only rifle stages really isn't a two gun match.
  15. Just a general question? If it is a two gun match, why not have stages that utilize both guns rather than 5 stages of pistol and 5 stages w rifle?
  16. 3-12 or 3-15 is good. Pushing it up to a 20 or 24 max is probably overpower for a grendel. For a creedmoor, it makes sense.
  17. I've seen some on gun broker. Had one at bass pro in baton rouge the other day for about 1300.
  18. Gibbz makes a great one. I have exactly what you are referring to. A PSA lower with a Gibbz upper in 9mm. Don't ever shoot it though since I got my MPX If you want to build one, all you need is the upper, barrel and hand guard. No gas system is needed. You will need a bolt and recoil spring system too. Be careful when buying the bolt. There are two styles. One for Glock Mags and one for Colt style Mags. It is not that hard to get a Colt style mag to run with Glock mags. But you need to know what you are doing.
  19. I can only tell you my experience. Had a gun that consistently was running sub to at moa. Saw accuracy dropping off and fiddled with several variables. Since I had a back up gun set up exactly the same, except barrel length, I had the opportunity to do some comparisons. Everything pointed to the spring system. With my guns, I saw a significant improvement with the heaviest spring in the captured recoil system vice the lower rated springs. Also, on the lower rated springs I tried placing a quarter or two in the buffer tube (to take up the pre load on the springs) which also made a positive difference depending upon load and the spring rating. Bottom line is that I feel that the spring in the gun that was falling off in accuracy was loosing oomph, by going to a new heavier spring, the accuracy was right back to where it was. The why?? I personally feel that by having a bit of a heavier spring you get a more consistent lockup of the bolt. I can't prove it, but that would seem to be the logical reason.
  20. Not trying to start anything, I signed up when registration opened. But at FnH this weekend was allot of talk about only having 50 or 60 shooters and no prize table to speak of. Hope it's not true. Hate to spend money on entry fees, gas, hotels only to be a small match.
