  1. The issue on the trigger following is more the bolt than the lower or trigger group. I had a PSA lower with a CMC 2.5# flat hammer that would follow the bolt on most shots. The issue was that the bolt would not push the hammer quite far enough over to reset. TIG welded a very small amount of metal on the back 1/3 of the bottom of the bolt where the hammer rides. Contoured it so it was smooth on all sides but would push the hammer down just a tad more during the cycle. Works perfect.
  2. I did the work. I've done four previously. Not a professional, but I would say I am proficient. As I said, I did not get overly aggressive. And it worked fine for 1 or 200 rounds. Shell is centered and no extra movement.
  3. Rounds in tube makes no difference. Could be 10 could be three. The front of the shell latch does not get out of the way and the round does not move back to the shell carrier. The port is opened, but not overly aggressively. It looks like the funnel spring in the back of the latch mech is not strong enough.
  4. Which carrier latch spring did you replace? The little one under the button or the funnel shaped one under the back? Also, did the funnel shaped one have a spring within a spring, or just the funnel shaped spring? The reason I ask is that my gun is new, only 3 or 400 rounds, but now when you push the shell release button, sometimes the shell does not pop back onto the carrier. Looks like the back spring is too weak. Thanks
  5. Wolf Gold 150 yards and in. Winchester 69 grain Match out past 150.
  6. So far, I am very pleased with the gun. I've opened the loading port, installed a rear sight and match saver. Have a Briley Charging handle, just not installed yet, as well as the +9 and +5 tubes. It handles great and shoots very nice. Quad loads are getting better, not quite as fast as with my versa yet, but that will come. Does anyone have a recommendation on an alternative to the stock action spring. I have about 300 rounds through it and It will not shoot anything less than 1200 fps or Fiocci slugs. I can certainly go with a heavier load in slug and don't really mind 1200 and 1300 fps loads. But like 1100s and 1150s as well. There is one big difference to the versamax. Shooting heavy loads, i.e. turkey loads, in the versa is a snap. The new A5 will rattle your teeth and brains:)!
  7. New model A5 Stalker. Not yer paw paw's duck gun
  8. Any source on race ready A5's? Where can I get one? I know Buds has some 26 and 28 inch models in stock.
  9. Are there any negatives to the A5 platform and 3 gun?
  10. I have been using a Versamax for about 18 months and really like it, no real drive to change. But, I do have a quick question. On the new model A5, using the quick load feature. If you shoot to bolt lock, and then reload, can you push two as if loading a deuce, or the first set of a quad. Then the second shell in goes into the chamber.? While the first goes in the tube. Or, do you have to load one first, then do the deuce or quad?
  11. This will be a superb match. Shannon and crew do an awesome job, the stages will be challenging and fun. Weather should be great as well. Looking foreword to it for sure!
  12. A few things that really will effect your poi on a versamax (or any other shotgun). One is a clamp between the barrel and mag tube. While these look cool, they really can cause problems with poi changing on slugs every time you remove and replace the clamp. You can hone out the area where it clamps to the mag tube so that it controls it, but is not actually clamped to it. I have seen this approach work. Another is the tightness of the mag tube cap. Especially with the versamax, consistency in that tightness is important. Lastly, on the Comp Tactical model. I really did not like the installed rear sight. Basically, it was a v style sight that the front bead fit into. For me, i did not like the way it allowed for error. So, I took a round file and changed the profile to more of a U shape. The bright bead now fits right in the U and doesn't allow for much error. This really helped keep consistent.
  13. Frankly, shooting the typical light loads, and the occasional moderate load for a larger popper, porting a 3 gun shotgun is a waste of money and time. You would be far better off spending the money on some shells and a good loading system/shell holders.
  14. Sounds like allot of tube envy going on here. Some people just can't handle the fact that my tube is longer and can perform longer than theirs.
  15. I have seen a few guns come out of holsters during movement in 3 gun matches. Almost every time, it has been a thigh rig. They are more risky and provide a competitive disadvantage under most circumstances. You will see them occasionally at local matches, rarely outside of that.
  16. Sig Carry TacOps. Around 1k. I have the version without the threaded barrel. Only issue I see is it doesn't have suppressor sights. Not an SVI or anything, but, Very good gun for the money.
  17. In addition to SVI flat trigger, extreme engineering sear, disconnector, hammer, Dawson took less guide rod, 10lb recoil spring, Grip by Extreme Shooters, the smaller size like on a DVC. Right side mag release by Mitchell Custom Guns. I have smallish hands and this allows me to drop mags without adjusting my grip.
  18. I got mine today and replaced a red dot on my carbine. My match rifle has a Razor HD w the JM reticle. For the money, it is good to go. Functionally, it works fine, glass is good. Mounted and sighted it in. Ran 50 rounds through it. That being said, on a bright, sunny day in Fl, the illumination is barely noticeable. Cloudy, should be fine. I know that the cost to put the JM reticle was probably prohibitive, but adding a very bright point in the center and get rid of the horse shoe (for me) more like the JM would have made this a sure winner. Very much worth another $100 or $150. Not too much into the reticle. I'll try it for a couple of up close matches. Keeping an open mind.
  19. The whole argument of socialism is just ig nert and using a name with negative connotations to enforce their arguments. Unless you start taking points from Daniel, Jesse and other top shooters and then giving them to me and the other pack shooters, it isn't socialism. It is simply giving equal weight to each stage and making it more of a series of competitions rather than a total time scenario. More of a Grand Prix concept vice one long competition like the tour de france. I have benefitted by the points system, beating shooters with a slightly faster time, and I have also been on the short end of the stick (this weekend), but overall, I would much rather go with points. Several months ago I shot in a 7 stage match where my first stage was a total disaster. Procedurals, misses, all sorts of problems. In a total time match, I might as well have packed my crap and gone home (not that I would). In a total time match, there was no way to recover. But, in a points match, Ii knew that if I did consistently well, and maybe pulled off a stage win or two, i could do very well. That is exactly how it played out. Jesse is right on point. Take a shooter that is paying several hundred dollars for entry fees, hundreds in gas and hotels, and has a bad stage to start off a match. It's nice to know that it is at least possible to dig out of the hole.
  20. How does the weight compare to the BCM KMR?
  21. You will like your choice. Double ck your gas block clearance on installation and you will be very happy.
  22. I shoot the KMR. Does it get hot after allot of rounds, Yes, but not any more than any other. The small diameter can be an issue for some gas blocks. That is a legitimate issue, but not a bit deal and easily overcome. Really like the small dia, especially handy when shooting through ports, holes, etc. Super light and installs cleanly too.
  23. I've been shooting my Gibbz now for about 4 months. Love it and won't go back. Another entertainment point is watching RO's try to clear the rifle on multi gun stages and look for the old charging handle. the look on their faces is precious.
