  1. Funny, I have tried 2 and know others that have used them w great success. Went from a measured 3.5 to 2.5. Safely
  2. Buy an Extreme Engineering Trigger kit from Shooters Connection.
  3. The hand guard is a BCM KMR. It is smaller in dia than most hand guards. The difference between having the JP heat sink on and not having it on was amazing. After a 30 round string or so with it on, got so hot that you could barely stand to hold it. The material of the hand guard may come into play as well.
  4. What ever you do, don't think that one of the JP heat sinks or something similar will help. Will actually make the problem worse. They pull the heat out of the barrel great, and I think they probably help the barrel cool quickly. But they radiate heat like crazy. I put one on a new build and had to take it off. Even after 25 or 30 rounds it got crazy hot. After taking it off, no problems.
  5. I think an Ace Stock would look and balance better. Just my .02.
  6. I don't see how, Extreme uses stock STI grips to make theirs. I have one, has not exhibited any of the issues you have had. Works perfectly.
  7. I wasn't aware there was a right side release for 2011's on the market. Just ordered one from Jimmy Mitchell. Very much look forward to running it.
  8. I have 3 w TT and two w Dawson's and Trace hit the nail on the head. TT comes off easier due to better locking mech. Also, you can get one or two more rounds in the TT than Dawson's. Not saying Dawson's aren't very nice, just like TT a tad better.
  9. yup, the reality is that any barrel maker has three choices of gas tube length. Two choices of gas block diameter (realistically). There are really no other variables other than the profile of the barrel between the receiver and gas block, and gas block to the threads on the end of the barrel. Everyone in the entire world uses the same dimensions for chamber, bore and rifling. Outside of the diameter of the hole for the gas at the gas block, or outside dimensions of the barrel, What could possibly be proprietary? Even then, I sincerely doubt that the od of the barrel could be litigated as proprietary. Now, if they came up with a whole new gas system, length, dia of hole, tube configuration, maybe.
  10. All the same. Just degrees of application. Duplication means that within some degree of acceptable parameters, they managed to at least come close. "Attempt at a copy" means they tried to duplicate the product but were not quite as successful. When lawyers get involved, makes no difference. Both are pretty much the same. When it comes to an AR15 barrel, there is no way that getting lawyers involved is in any way productive. Anyone can alter or vary parts variables as they wish. I would not think that there are any proprietary measurements in any way associated with an AR barrel.
  11. Just a point of clarification, but what is the difference between the terms "attempt at a copy" and "duplication".???? In my world, either one is synonymous with the concept, "they did something good, I'm gonna do the same thing and try to make some money." Now, not saying that is necessarily wrong, that is the way the world works. If something works, it will be quickly replicated. That being said, why not call it what it is.
  12. I can't speak to all your issues. From my perspective, I got a 9mm Edge from Davidson's about three months ago. I have about two thousand rounds through mine now. Have two tuned mags from Davidsons and three stock tubes from Brownells and TTI guts and base pads. You do have to trim the followers yourself to get proper function. Maybe it is all in the luck of the draw, but I love mine. Knock on wood:)
  13. It really should depend on where and how you plan to shoot. If you are into more local matches that rarely get out past 200, stick with the short barrel. If you are wanting to go to regional or major matches and/or your local matches frequently go to 300 and beyond, you might want to stick with an 18 inch barrel. Yes, you will hear some people professing to be able to consistently hit itty bitty targets at 500 yards with a 16 inch barrel and 55 grain ammo. Reality is going to some of the matches that have targets out past 250, what you will see consistently perform are the 18 inch barrels. I have both, but 90% of the time shoot the 18. If you use an adjustable gas block and low mass bolt, you can get a 16 inch gun to shoot pretty flat and soft. Not as nice as an 18 with the same setup, but soft enough for quick shots and low splits
  14. Allot depends on the matches you typically shoot at. Some matches rarely see a target over 200 yards. In that case, you could go with a 1x4 or a red dot. If you go to more regional matches or local matches that go out past 300, there are two or three good scopes, but I prefer the vortex razor HDII 1-6 with the JM reticle. It is a tad pricey, but cheaper when compared to the other good 1-6's
  15. I think I am like most people. Start with my plan in my head and keep going through that. Every once in a while, I'll see another shooter do something that is significantly better, altering my approach. That being said, I would say that frequently when I do change to that better approach, I screw it up While I might have been a few seconds slower with my original approach, I probably would not have messed up had I not changed.
  16. For allot of people, it is not about being informed. It is about just not wanting to help. One of the more frustrating parts is that while not always, it is often young people. And, being a new shooter generally isn't the excuse. New shooters are typically looking to learn and be a part of what is going on. The one's I see sitting around are usually one of two sorts. The first is the talkers, always jaw jacking and blabbing. The second are the too big for their britches gang. The ones that think they are too good to work. It is frustrating, and I do occasionally make a polite mention. But, it really should be up to the squad leader or RO for that group to step up and get them involved.
  17. That is a great idea. Everyone knows the rules upfront at that point.
  18. I have lost deals for the same reasons. The bottom line is that the first person that says I'll take it, is first in line. While I am asking questions about round count, trying to haggle over a few dollars, other conversations are also taking place. You just have to be aware and be ready to commit to the deal. Otherwise people trying to sell would get jerked around mercilessly.
  19. If the RO or MD doesn't KNOW it was a slug hit, they should give you the benefit of doubt. Most are very good people and make the right calls, but occasionally we have all run into "that guy". They pull out the red card too fast, then when it may be that they are wrong, instead of looking at the situation objectively, they get all defensive and really dig in. Best thing to do in this case is avoid the match and at other local matches, avoid the squads that these people shoot with.
  20. i prefer scotch w my dremel, please! Nice SVI too.
  21. Jesse is on the mark. The person buying this glass will not, in most cases, be looking at this as an alternative to the Razor. Certainly there might be a few. If anything, Vortex is looking to capture a niche in the market that their current line does not fill. If anything, in the long run, I suspect it will actually bolster Razor sales because it will get people exposure to Vortex products that might have otherwise chosen another brand. And, we all know that while 3 gunners are always looking for the next best thing to give them an edge, they are typically very brand loyal. The other thing too is that you cannot make the statement that Vortex will have to sell 4 eagles to make the money they make on one Razor. Without knowing the cost and final margins, you just don't know. They well make as much on one Eagle as they do on one Razor, or it could be 4 as you suggest. Probably somewhere in the middle.
  22. Thanks for the advice. i'll look at this and make adjustments. much appreciated.
