  1. I wonder why they picked an L frame for this gun? When I asked what frame was usually the faster gun, the majority of the responses that I got back was that folks liked the K frame for a speedloader gun.
  2. A friend of mine had a couple of them with S&A magwells and they wouldn't make weight. He put a bunch of cash into a pair of guns that he couldn't use. Better get your gun weighed with a magazine inserted. You can't trust Para's published weights. 43 oz max for ESP.
  3. It's not even listed on the IDPA web site as an upcomming match. They must not have a COF yet.
  4. I think that you will have to spell out the exact calibers for HWG. If you just say "7.62x39 or larger" you will have someone with a .45 ACP carbine saying that they are HWG.
  5. I would have guessed that the smaller diameter cylinder would be harder to load. I haven't done any shooting with speed loaders so I guess it pays to ask. I'm just used to throwing moons at my 625. If I keep shooting revolvers do I have to change my name to Jerry? There are already 3 that I'm aware of.
  6. For you speed loader guys that have used both K and L frame 6 shot revolvers, which one is faster/easier to load? I was looking to use a 686 in IDPA SSR division. I don't mind running a heavy gun. I see that the best SSR times at this years IDPA nationals were turned in by a model 19 and a 67.
  7. They should be for the 8 shot. I bought the 7 shot (blue post) to use with my .45 for IDPA use. The 7 shot works fine for .45 and the post protrudes through the moon clip to satisfy IDPA rules. I haven't tried the 8 shot holders.
  8. I think that the answer is 2 fold. Since the Nationals sell out, keeping it open to people that have shot at least 2 sanctioned matches limits participation to those that have shown a commitment to IDPA competitions. It also helps to ensure that everyone is shooting within their classification. If someone is out shooting their class they would likely get a bump to the next class from their participation in sanctioned matches where there can be enough competitors to push a shooter into the next higher classification. Just my opinion from discussions that I have heard.
  9. I don't buy the third match stuff either because it's not possible. At minimum he would need to shoot a classifier match and 2 sanctioned matches in the last year to even be able to apply to the Nationals. That's an absolute minimum of 3 previous matches.
  10. Ken I enjoyed your drop targets on that stage. I was admiring your craftsmanship while I was resetting the targets, very nicely done. Thank you for all the work that your poured into designing and making the targets. It's also great that your share your designs on your web site. Don't worry with those that thought that they were too hard, accuracy is a skill that needs to be tested. If they thought that they were too hard, there is a saying from some where that goes something like "put on your big girl pants and deal with it".
  11. Same here, I was also shooting a round gun. I did a tac load before going down and shifted into low gear to get both legs out first and then the paper. The last thing that I wanted was to miss the legs and have do reload on my belly. The further to the right that you placed your head when you went down made the right leg a little easier to shoot but it was still a thinner target than the left side. Got it done and breathed a sigh of relief.
  12. Good thing you said "former mother in law". There is an old saying that if you want to know what your wife will look like when she gets old, just look at her mother.
  13. The rule book also list places that are not permitted and your holster is not mentioned. The list of approved places to stow your magazine is not limited to just the ones listed. In your sock is not listed as one of the approved places but it is also not excluded because it is not one of the places listed as NOT permitted. I would think that so long as it is not one of the excluded places that you would be OK. If you are thinking that you are going to eject it strait from the gun into the holster I doubt that anyone will let you do that as you can't eject it strait into your pocket either. Proper Magazine Retention: A place for a partially loaded magazine to be stowed before firing the first shot after a reload. These places include: pants pocket; vest pocket; jacket pocket; waistband; magazine pouch. The use of specially designed pockets, shirt pockets, upper vest pockets, hands or teeth is NOT permitted.
  14. Eric If you are refering to Seattle Slug plug, it is listed as one of the excluded modifications in SSP. Can't use them or any other weighted devices.
  15. You will want to weigh your Masterblaster bullets, the last 230's that I got from them were 221gr. I emailed and asked what the deal was and they said that they shoot for 226 when they cast. A lot of variance with their alloy if they shoot for 226 on their 230's and end up at 221.
  16. Just so that you don't get caught by surprise, the 333 holder doesn't cover the body of the speed loader and therefore isn't legal equipment for IDPA. Most won't know the rules regarding revolvers but at a bigger match you would probably get noticed. Here is the quote from the rulebook. D. Either be of open top configuration that holds the speedloader in by tension and covers the full diameter and body of the speedloader or retain the speedloader with a snap or Velcro closure.

    9mm 1911

I have been calling Metalform for years asking for a 10 round 9mm mag. It's been a while since I pestered them but the last time I talked to them a lady assured me that they would be available in January, that was last January. Wilson and Tripp have been saying the same thing for a few years now and they still don't have any. I'm running some of Tripp's 10 rd 9mm mags and they work but he quit selling them to redesign them and hasn't resumed yet.
  18. That's really weird. about 3 months ago when lots of people were complaining that they could not reach him and his web site was down I went on-line and ordered 3 speed loader holders and they arrived in about 6 days. I must be the luckey one.
  19. I think that it's safe to say that sport shooters won't be able to influence the way Hogue makes their grips. I called Hogue customer service a little while ago and while I had them on the phone I asked if they made any rubber grips without finger grooves. I said kind of like Miculek grips but rubber. He said he had never heard of Miculek grips. I said they are smooth wood grips designed by Jerry Miculek. He said Jerry Miculek, never heard the name before. I said WOW that's strange, he is probably the best revolver shooter on the planet. He then said O yes, I think I have heard the name before. They need to get out more often.
  20. Thread them on a standard belt run through belt loops, get them within 10 degrees of vertical and if they don't stick out too far they may fly. How hard are they going to be to draw from once vertical? Looks like they may set a little high in the vertical position.
  21. They have to be positioned within 10 degrees of vertical and you can't use the Velcro type inner outer belts in IDPA. Are they adjustable within 10 degrees of vertical and can they be worn on a standard belt? Are they suitable for concealed carry use as in they don't stick out away from your body. I'm betting they can't be made legal. Worn and positioned like this...no way no how
  22. Well I started with the Miculek grips but was having trouble getting to the latch with my small hands so I thinned the left ear of the grips to aid in getting to the latch. I held the gun wrong one time with 185pf loads and bruised the bone at the base of my thumb. I got a set of the X frame grips yesterday since they have some padding around the back to help until my thumb heals. I hate the finger groves so I ground them off. I ended up going through the front of the grips in one spot while grinding off the finger groves. I sure wish they would leave off the finger grooves since they don't seem to fit anyone's hands. Transitions and reloads will be slower with the rubber grip since I switch hand reload. I really want to go back to the Miculek's but I have to get my hand to heal up first. I have another set of Miculek's that I haven't thinned on the left ear that I will use after my hand heals. I didn't have any problems until I thinned down that left side ear.
  23. Ken, that would be September 8th for your match.
  24. Where can I get a speed-e-rack,is it the moon clip loader with an o-ring on the end of the post? Thanks, Scott http://speed-e-rack.com/
  25. I can't see any real difference with the magnums. Sensitivity was the same and I averaged 1 fps higher velocity with the 155's over the 150's. I had expected to have to back off the powder but that wasn't the case with clays powder.
