  1. I was using my drill press at home but I wanted something to keep Murphy away when I'm at a match. I figured that if I have a tool to fix it in my bag that the rod will never back out at a match.
  2. I bought one here. http://www.gunsmithing-tools.com/smith_&_wesson.htm Mr. Wessinger is no longer with us, that's why the tool is discontinued at Brownells

This may be throwing gas on the fire but this is a quote from the rulebook. "All reloads must be executed from cover (if cover is available) and must be completed before leaving cover. " From this statement one can infer that if cover is not available that you can reload in the open. Now we have to define the word "available" in relation to a COF. Is "available" 1 yard, 5 yards? It would seem that match directors are starting to define available cover as being anywhere on the stage.

I actually hate the idea of off the clock reloads. Ammunition management is a skill that should be tested. There shouldn't be any time outs during a senario.
  5. I am very happy with my Super Demooner. From the little bit of wear that I see on the tips of the handles that push the cases out, I'm glad that I got the super over the regular. I de-mooned 150 clips yesterday with ease, I would have went crazy using the little pipe with a handle tool. I like to moon up a couple of hundred clips at a time and then just shoot and not have to mess with it for a while.
  6. One for home and one for the range. Mike should like the application of power tools.
  7. I use a 50 cal. rifle brush on a short non rotating Dewey chamber cleaning rod.
  8. There's your big marketing opportunity, Walt! Randy's got his hammer, Bob's got his North Mountain moon-holder, Vic's got his spring kits......now you can market a modern fastener kit for revolvers! That would be one ugly revolver by the time Waltermitty put grade 8 bolts with stainless safety wire on the sideplate.
  9. I don't understand how you are getting .473". All my cases with a bullet inserted measure .470" with no crimp. I measured several brands of factory ammo and they measure .470". To get anything larger than .470" I would have to leave some of the bell at the end of the case and have no crimp. I load all mine to measure .470" in the body just below the crimp and .468" at the very edge of the mouth of the case. Most of the cases that I have measure .0095" thick, that would make for a finished cartridge of .470" with no crimp, .451 + .0095 + .0095 = .470" any thing larger than .470 is not crimping the bullet.
  10. Rick Did those times that you quoted include the draw or was it the shot to shot times?
  11. I hate adjustable sights but George at EGW is making a nice adjustable sight for IDPA use. They look like Novak's. I think George uses a Novak sight cut which would allow you to put on night sights for those dark stages that are real fun. Once you cut it for Bo-Mar's you are stuck and I have never found a fixed sight or night sight to go in the Bo-Mar cut. There are a lot more options for a novak cut than the Bo-Mar. Did I mention that I hate Bo-Mars?
  12. The small plate works just fine for both 9mm and .40. Go with the 650. With the 650 you can add the powder check station and catch those squibs. Every time I get someone on a stage that has a squib I ask them if they load on a 550 and they look surprised and say why yes I do. By the time you get a 550 to where you have the case feeder, you have the same money tied up in it and still don't have auto indexing or a powder check station.
  13. After getting my gamer hat on and thinking about this a little I think I have a fix for the guys with 10 round mags that want to load 9. You have to load to the mechanical capacity of the magazine up to 10 for ESP. If you have base pads on the magazines just put longer screws in the base pads and thus limit the mechanical capacity to 9 rounds. I run 10 plus 1 in mine because I have seen enough Mozambiques, steel, mandatory head shots or 11 round stages to make me want to have the extra rounds but this may be an answer for those that want to start out even rounds and take the chance.
  14. I'm in agreement. If you show up in front of me with an ESP gun and all 10 rounders, you will load 10 plus 1 or get 20 FTDR.
  15. The Wolff try pack of springs has 5 springs, one is the factory equivalent and then there is a reduced power #1,2,3 and 4. The number 4 is the weakest. Brownell's sells the try pack and then they have 10 packs of the #2 and #3, that indicates that the #2 and #3 are the most popular. I like the #3 the best and have never dropped a mag by accident.
  16. By the time you get the 60% coverage, I think that the one on bottom would be pretty tough to get to, at least for my small hands.
  17. Gary I hate to bust your bubble but those carriers are not IDPA compliant. They are nice put don't pass the criteria in the rule book. From the rule book Note: Moon clips may not be retained in the carrier by three (3) or less cartridges. Side cuts are permitted for thumb and index finger access only.

My CDP gun weighed 41.0 at the IDPA Nationals last year. I knew it was dead on before going since I built it that way. They had a spring scale that started at 1 oz so I told the Colonel he would have to zero it for my gun, he said that if it was close and they doubted the weight that they had a digital in the stat shack. The gun was in the white then so before I sent it off to Tripp to be chromed, I knocked it down to 40.8 to have a little room for faulty scales.
  20. I shot some test loads today in my 625 with 5 1/2 pound trigger. I loaded 4.2 Clays in Starline brass with a Precision 230 gr coated bullet. I loaded some with Federal 150's and some with Federal 155's. I was surprised by the results. I was expecting to have to back off the powder some on the magnum primers but not so. The loads with the 150 primers averaged 175.6 power factor and the 155 primers averaged 175.7. I bought the magnum primers because that was all that was available. It looks like they will work fine and after firing another 200 I didn't get any misfires so it looks like the sensitivity is the same.
  21. Steve Thanks for the video link. It would also be nice if the shooter in the video didn't aim the gun at his legs and feet when he went to move from the first set of barrels to the second set on stage 2.
  22. Hey! Quit looking in my range bag!
  23. Since the COF did not mention that concealment was required, I was wondering how many have already shot this match without concealment. Some clubs adopt the "concealment optional" attitude in the summer months for everything but sanctioned matches. Even if you normally use concealment would you use it on the Anti's Cafe stage? On the cafe stage you start with the gun in the box so why concealment. Stage 2 and 4 are pretty much just a running gun fight from the previous stages so there is no secret about your gun anyway. A club I'll be shooting at this weekend will shoot the match. How many have shot it without concealment?
  24. Does anyone know what the angle of the forcing cone is on the newer S&W's, specifically a 625-8? Brownell's told me that the older ones were 9 1/2° but he didn't know about the newer guns. I'm trying to figure out what cutter and lap to clean up the rough cut on my gun. Thanks!
  25. It would probably be considered a weighted magazine even if it did fit in the box. Weighted magazines are not allowed. Here is the definition of weighted magazines. Weighted Magazine: Any magazine that weighs more than one (1) ounce over the weight of a factory standard magazine for the specific pistol in question.
