Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have shot my 300 blk with suppressor. Did fairly well. First thing after with walk through I noticed was that there were no rifle finishes that week so I shot the SBR in the truck instead of the 16" 5.56. What killed me though was that on the long range stage we shot at 200 than ran up 15 or so yards and re engaged same targets. I had my dope pretty good at 200 but when I ran up and shot at 185 it didnt click that my 220 subs were 10 INCHES higher. It took me several shots before I remembered my dope change( for 200 I dialed in 5 and held 2.5)
  2. Also worth mentioning is that it is easier to move suppressors than SBR's from state to state. I have thought of this solution for out of state hunting.
  3. I got amazon prime after seeing commercials for this on youtube. I may just cancel my subscription as I have no intention of seeing season 2.
  4. also, worth pointing out is that much of Act of Valor was shot in LIVE FIRE. Including the scene with the stolen truck and the boats.
  5. I have been considering an dot equiped gun for carry myself. It would seem that for most CCW IDPA type shooters(yes i am stereotyping and generalizing, please dont be offended) the dots are actually being used on short carry guns to compensate for their short sight radius. I understand that the "open-guns" could be used in a way that many IDPA shooters would see as non-IDPA-esk, but lets face it if you are really shooting IDPA not for the game than you shouldnt worry about the gamers. I think most would just like to be able to shoot their carry gun(weather that is a M&P with a docter or god forbid a gun with a full length dust-cover)
  6. For Shooting-I am a huge fan of short shoutouts where almost everybody dies/or is wounded-Appaloosa and Face off(shoutout in the church, as far as I am concerned the movie ends there as I always turn it off at that point and NEVER watch it any longer). -Also like Sinners and Saints(parking lot scene), Miami Vice, and Act of Valor. For fighting-Troy, 300, and Warrior
  7. Somewhere in the future Jason Lococo and Owen Pitt will have a reunion. I only hope that it gets put in a novel. It could be anything from absolutely side-splitting to a clash worthy discription "EPIC". Honestly I am really interested on how these two will mesh in future novels. I would think that it would be no big deal and a whole lot of respect but who knows.
  8. I do like the end-of-the world crescendo that is happening but I would love to see more off hunts. Though I dont want to give the impression that I am anything but a huge fan of MHI. I so want a patch.
  9. Woooh, what is this short story you speak of. Also I really like the introduction of Jason Lococo.
  10. As far as back-up division is concerned the only change I would like to see is maby some kind of "minor" division. Meaning below 9x19. There are a good number of guns that are sub-caliber that simply cant be shot. If it were up to me I would add a sub-caliber possiblility(maby a penalty if no additional division is added) and an open possibility. I know that "open" is heresy to IDPA'ers but my thinking is simply that "open" allows you to shoot other guns without DQ. I own a great deal of guns that cannot be shot in IDPA(including previous carry guns) that I would love to shoot(broom handle anyone). The nice thing about USPSA is that you can shoot any 9mm or higher. For someone just wanting to shoot he can shoot pretty much anything in open(though people complain because they cant be competitive). I think that if you are going to shoot an non-preffered gun that you should be allowed with penalty. Just FYI I think that considering the nature of IDPA an "open" division should still mean no comp/optic. For example. If IDPA allowed an "open" division I could shoot a 5in barreled Smith model 60. As it stands now I cannot.
  11. It is interesting just how engrained gun safty is for some of us. It is telling to watch some people(like me) airgun in their homes where they will lower the muzzle of their imaginary gun if someone walks infront of them. I wont even point a finger at someone while under the idea of it being a gun but I have no issues pointing the same finger in the same manner at someone when my mind is not in "gun mode". I have personally tripped and had similar things happen, both with pistols in practice and with rifles while hunting(with the pistol I maintained control with the rifle I grounded and left it until I was up).
  12. Bought it the day it came out. It was a good read that introduced a character that was previously mentioned but not quite as one would expect. I really enjoyed it even though oddly enough it didnt have much of what I have come to love of the series(gun banter and our favorite combat accountant). I hope that considering the nature of this perticular plot that the less gun banter thing is not going to continue throughout his later books, but was just more appropriate for this novel. Overall I give it 5 out of 5 stars. While I picked it up because of my love of the other books, I enjoyed it because of the quality of the entertainment. But just in case Larry Corria reads this. I personally would like to see more "small hunts". Maby even a companion book that is off storyline with just short story hunts. Much like I enjoyed the Harry Potter books for the off storyline antics of the Weasly twins I enjoy this series for the characters and the way they interact with each other. The world doesnt have to almost come to an end all the time to put the characters in an underdog situation. I loved the chupracaba hunt that was in Vendetta and would love to see more of this.
  13. I hate to say it but I have to change my opinion on George. I have gotten to like him. He just reminds me of my little brother too much. My brother is in the Army and full of bravado. He is just the type that has no filter. Having lived with that my whole life I simply can cope with that type personality and push the crap out of the way. So GO GEORGE
  14. I dont know if this is the best thread to post this but I am very intrigued by watching the high speed video of the pistols being shot. For instance I was always told and was under the understanding that the recoil of the weapon happens before(or at least the unlocking of the breach) the bullet leaves the barrel. I was told that this is the reason a heavier bullet with a slower velocity impacts higher on a target. I was told the the rising of the barrel causes the impact to be at a slightly higher angle. Looking at the video of the glock (with history channels awesome cameras) this does not necessarly seem to be the case. I was wondering if any of you who have this tivoed would mind rewatching the end and telling me what you saw(I watch it on hulu so the resolution is not as good and there is no slow-mo).
  15. I agree with whoever above who said something about just giving participation awards. I have said it before and will say it again. If you are a master and take something like 15th MA at a match when you add a GM class you will still take 15th at the match. If your self esteem is such that you cant handle that truth than find something more cuddly to do that doesnt have a scoring system. If it were up to me I would just lower the prices of all the events and only give out a trophy for 1st SSP, 1st ESP, ect. That way you dont have to pony up the $$$ for the extra awards. Our culture has for some odd reason has gone completely fluffy. Americans used to pride ourselves on greatness now we have friggin graduation celebrations for kindergardner. We used to celebrate results in the name of hard work and accomplishment, now we praise mediocrity in the name of feelings and fairness. Sorry I could go on my soapbox for another 10 pages but I will step down and go.
