The failures to extractor are because of the oversized chambers. If you crimp ammo a little too much or use wolf and you have an oversized chamber the rim slips pass the headspace shoulder and locks the case in tight so you rip the rim off. Early M&P suffer from this more than the later ones, send it back to smith!!!!!
  3. I don't think strength of mount will matter I'm using a 2 inch thick laminate oak work bench top. So it more of usefulness Question? So for those that had both types of mounted presss the bench and strong which one is better for loading. Given that I can make the bench height anything I want. I may be wrong on this but strong mount looks like it was designed to make up for a low, shaky bench? But that's just a quess? Maybe a lower bench with press up in air like that is better?
  4. Starting to plan a reloading bench Which is better a 650 up on the tall mount or raise the bench and mount to bench edge? All advice appreciated
  5. Turkey barrel, has rem choke and vent rib in 21 I think,
  6. You should always keep a backup. I like the old Kerosene heaters and keep 10 gallons on hand. That plus a couple of propane tanks for grill. I can make hot drinks, soup, grilled sandwichs on Kerosene heater and full meal on grill. Keep a small generator, big enough to run a window shaker AC, Refrig, and the well. Then I can bath, sleep, have beer and watch Sat TV. run your generator off a outboard motor tank, that way you can refill it and not be pouring over a hot engine. Get a smoke alarm that monitor CO also. All this stuff can be had for well under a grand. Hot or Cold outside I can still live in comfort without any Utils. At first sign of storm, stock up on Gasoline. I keep two empty 55 gallon drums. First sign of trouble I fill them up, an then use it in car if theres any left. Also keep ample supply of oil for generator. Lots of garden hose laid in the sun makes for nice warm showers, I even let my better looking neighbors bath in my front yard. Things will get worse ....... If you really want to get green put in geothermal heating and cooling. Your bury a couple thousand feet of plastic line filled with antifreeze. Then steal your heat or AC from ground. Will still need a good size generator, but this will save you lots of money all year. If you'v got the land and bury the lines yourself it not real expensive either.
  7. Check out the High power supplies, Like Sinclair. They setup there spotting scopes so that they hardly move there heads to read there targets. If you want a good camera style Leitz
  8. If you open you safe often, the descent type will never keep up with the moisture. Use the ROD
  9. You can get the same feel by using a high content moly grease on sear, disconnector and trigger.
  10. A little known but very good plus not to expensive bourbon is the Old Weller Antique 107 proof 7 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. It is by the W. L Weller group and you can find on internet for $20/30 a bottle. To me its better than most $60/70 bottles. I buy it by case and replace it when numbers get low. It is not always available. If you get a chance, but a shot in a warm brandy sniffer and take a good inhale before roll it around your tongue.
  11. Foul out is very good for some things. It won't clean out a carbon ring. It will take a abused barrel and do nice job of getting the copper and lead out. But not at the same time, two different chemicals necessary. It is really good for pitted bores, or rough bores before your fire lap them or polish with JB. It is great with air guns!!!!!!! Also I guess if you are not comfortable with JB bore paste idea, it will allow a deep clean that is tough to do on rough bore that been shot alot with improper cleaning. Also good for cleaning before you switch to molly
  12. THis is from the "the complete guide to ar-15 accuracy" by Derrick Martin & Barrett Tillman of Accuarcy Speaks. The Ciener/Atchisson kit Colt kits Army 261 uses 10 round magazine insert Air Force Kit, uses large white 10 round mags and locks bolt back on last round. Very good section on how to tune all of these different kits, Accuracy speaks makes barrels for all of them so you don't have to use a chamber adapter. Lots of pics also. So if your think of doing a dedicated 22lr upper, buy the book and then scan the forums.
  13. Get the bore out in the sunlight, and see if you have a carbon ring just in front the chamber. JB and tight fitting JAB.
  14. Now that brownells has made a barrel extension with M4 feed ramp cuts, Who'se uppers already have them? Lets NOT discuss the merits or need of the M4 ramps
  15. Heavy buffers, used to slow full auto rate, used to delay unlock on high pressure cartridge or short gas system guns. Downside more moving weight means secondary recoil during lockup with be greater.
  16. This may not work for everyone, but I have suffered from sinus problems my whole life. Every morning one side is plugged, sneezing, dripping. Some times worse. Then I got a cold and tried the ZiCam cold remedy, the gooey stuff you put up your nose with the pump bottle. It worked great but it had an even better side effect. I noticed that the cold did go away fast but also my sinus problem had vanished. So now I've been using it every night and for first time in my life I don't have sinus problems. Can breath through both sides all night and every day. Haven't had cold since. Doctor says it is just a Zinc solution that changes the PH in your sinus and you can use it all you want. The usual allergys from pollen have even mostly disappeared. Try it for a week and see.

I seen several of these guns have this kind of failure. However most of time racking the slide would not remove the stuck case. The would do it more often with Wolf steel case and hand loads. Seems the shoulder in the chamber that it suppose to head space on was little big and rounds were camming pass and locking themselves in after the round fired. New barrels fixed the problems.
  18. What kinda of tools, let us know what success you have.
  19. I read article in Business week, So either American buyers are dumb or Ford is. I don't hybrids at maybe 45mpg and mid twenties in price and a very complex car, competes with a diesel that if made here could cost below twenty, and get 55MPG or more. So who thinks small diesel will make inroads in US?
  20. Just got done reading article in Ford World about the 1.6 Liter Duratorq TDCI Diesel engines. This is a common rail split shot injection 2nd gen engine. Delivers 65MPG and top speed of 110MPH will go on sale in England and has ultra low CO2 emmission. However Ford will not bring it to America with the 2010 release. In fact non of the TDCI Diesel engines are going to be sold in the US These are very modern Diesel, not the noisy sewing machine of the past. Are Americans too dumb to buy them or is it something else. Like they don't want the public switching to Diesel????? If anybody knows of any forums talking about this I'd like to find them. No luck on Google
  21. Two things interplay. Your reaction to recoil, and the guns felt impulse. Most STI's 40 in 5 inch with the full underlug long frame are heavy pistols. Both the frame and slide are heavy and it is out front. Now overall weight isn't that much because of the plastic grip. Now the hot thing is a light slide, but you still have frame choice, full or short. Then you've got to decide holes in front of slide or front and rear. I just built a light 5 then went out and went out and build a very light 6 for it. Such that they weigh within a 1/2 ounce of each other. Since it is a short frame and a lite slide with a bushing barrel. They point really well, and transition well. The extra inch when your sighting in seems like an extra three inches. However when shooting at really small targets, like 3 inch steel. I'm still more accurate with a old slab side shooting 45acp. This is all with factory ammo. So it has advantage but it is small, and I can see no negatives. But it cost a fair amount of money!
  22. Take a hacksaw to front sight, put a drop in trigger in your good to go with less money spent.
  23. I'm on a slow dialup, and the ATT accelerator chokes when I select new post and get about 2/3 pages in. then I get no response time outs. Turn off the Accelerator and things start working just fine. If there is anybody still on dialup, Hate ATT
  24. I will soon have to take my mother 85 and her two cats on a long trip. Several nights in hotels and lots of driving. One Cat is mean as hell and likes to bite! What I thought of so far is the cats must be in a harness and have a long lead attached to the vehicle that way when we stop at a rest stop we won't hunting for a lost cat. Other than that I'm lost, What about hotels??? Drug the cats???? All helpful commnets welcomed
  25. The USA today model has ruined most print media! Pictures with catch lines. Seems the average American attention span is 30 seconds. The length of a TV commerical. Precision Shooting, Shotgun News, Small Arms review. These have real articles that increase my knowledge of shooting in all areas. American Handgunner, is a Toilet flipper, said to say So has Popular Science. How is Gun Test?????
