  1. one shooter on my squad this weekend was using one of these: https://www.doublealpha.biz/us/ced-pcc-rifle-sleeve It half-zips so that you are unable to unzip it past your hand. The problem is trying to get your rifle out and back in without sweeping yourself. I imagine the purpose of this particular sleeve is more for transporting to and from the range and using a safe table to cart your rifle. TacSol used to sell sleeves as well and I've seen a number of them on the range. Same with Ruger. I haven't seen anything homemade though.
  2. Personally I'm not a fan. I've had to DQ a few people because they swept themselves either removing or putting back in. But they are legal and when ROing someone with one of these I'm even more vigilant to make sure they don't DQ.
  3. since I shoot Steel Challenge I am not worried about PF. But I am always on the lookout for something reliable that is like shooting a .22. I just tested the Everglades 95gr with approx. 3.0gr of Clays (I say approximately because I didn't weigh each charge). Testing was done with a PSA AR-V with a Taccom XLW Barrel and the Taccom Air Buffer. The brass just dribbled out of the ejection port. It was soft and accurate as best as I could tell. Am I making the switch? Probably not. My downloaded 124gr load works just fine and I'm sitting on a mess already made. Bullet Wt. Powder Charge Primer OAL Vel: High Vel: Low Vel: Ave. Spread Std. 4. Has anyone created a "shooting resume" that they send out to potential sponsors? Do you have a template you wouldn't mind sharing?
  5. I'm using the Taccom air buffer and their XLW barrel in my PSA AR-V. I have tested some light 115gr loads at about 100pf and they ran fine. The brass ejection was a little close, but what would you expect. I wasn't happy with the performance across the chrono, but that might have been due to the fact that the samples sent ranged from 114gr to 121gr. I was getting spreads of over 100fps and way higher than expected deviation. But that is my problem. Personally I have good, consistent results with 124gr. loaded to around 115PF With a shortened barrel and the Taccom system you should be able to run light loads without changing the buffer spring. Can't speak to the other components. best bet is to get some samples, load them up to different PF and see what the PCC likes.
  6. provided the Mete uses the same dovetail cuts... glock adjustable rear: 017-012 m&p fiber front: 021-063 They also make Canik specific sights, but not adjustable: https://dawsonprecision.com/gun-sights/canik/
  7. I saw some local shooters using those this weekend and thought the same as you, that Thunderbolts were trash. But he ran 6 stages in RFRO and no ammo issues that I remember.
  8. Actually a Wiland barrel. Sent them my factory barrel and they cut it down and sleeved it. using their iron sights and it's awesome! I replaced the rear sight with a pic rail and mounted the rear there.
  9. I have not tried it yet, but a couple of local shooters swear by it no to mention 5 time World Speed Shooting Champion Trenton Mitsuoka. I have no experience with SK as I can't seem to find it locally, but junior shooter Kaitlin Benthin is sponsored by them and swears by it. Eley sponsors a number of shooters and is considered some of the best stuff out there (I, personally, have found Eley a little finicky depending on the rimfire setup.) I'm sorry you can't get stuff shipped to you. I have a friend in Mass that has the same issues.
  10. I know I can get my PCCO lighter by removing the side charger and I have a buddy that can skeletonize the upper and lower. Top (L-R): PCCO, PCCI Bottom (L-R): RFRO, RFRI
  11. In terms of rimfire ammo: shoot what works AND what you can find. Luckily the shelves are being stocked again, unfortunately at insane prices still. You can always order direct from CCI, Federal, Eley (Killough/Steve Foster/Kurt Grimes). PSA has deals on rimfire occasionally (that's where I got the Norma Tac-22 for $0.09/round).
  12. I am running the 3.5# CMC flat trigger (not the PCC specific version) and it works great in my AR-V. Also had the same one in my 15-22 when I was running that in RFRO. I'm sure I have said all this before, but this post is more to highlight CMC customer service. A buddy of mine runs CMC in his 15-22s and ended up with issues. Called CMC and they said they will replace them right away after apologizing 6 or 7 times. That was it, no questions about round count, maintenance, etc. Just a simple "we are so sorry, here's new triggers"
  13. Grumble or not, the shooter has 1 minute. If they were routinely seeing shooters going over that then they should have penalized. With 3+ ROs on a stage, I was kind of surprised I didn't see any stopwatches timing the make ready.
  14. But the OP asked about in-between strings. It is allowed, but not often seen with centerfire shooters practicing their draw and sight picture between strings, unless they have moved to the 2nd box on Showdown. The 1 minute after Make Ready is fine and no one is disputing that.
  15. 8.3.1.2 Sight Pictures: The competitor will have a maximum of one minute after the Make Ready command to prepare for the run. Sight pictures may be taken during the Make Ready process and while preparing for the next string. Note: Should the competitor experience an accidental discharge while taking a sight picture a disqualification under rule 10.4.1 shall be issued. Yes, you can take sight pictures between strings, but very few do (from a holstered start). The main time I have seen it is moving to the 2nd box on Showdown. Excessive drawing from the holster between strings just slows things down and probably will get some folks annoyed. Plus greater chance for something to go wrong. However, most folks that are shooting from the low-ready will take a quick sight pictures between strings.
  16. I run the TK DoubleKrosses as well with all TK parts. After cleaning them I go 1.5 turns and then a little more until the screw pops in (get the TK tool, so much easier). I tend to clean the mags after 2 or 3 shoots. I love that they are clear and you can see the buildup and when it's time to clean. I actually was having issues with the factory Ruger mags. Just replaced the springs, rotors and feed lips with TK and they are running like a top. *disclaimer: I am a sponsored competitor for TK
  17. Like others... find what works. My pistols and rifles will run just about anything. Until I changed the hammer spring in my RFRI it was not happy with Eley ammo. Found this out at WSSC. After a disastrous first stage i changed to CCI MiniMags and no more issues (ended up winning B Class in RFRI and shaved 10 seconds off my personal best). Since then I went to an XP hammer spring and no more issues. To be save I also changed the spring in my RFRO (went with the Wolff XP hammer spring since they are a PA company... and it's Wolff) I rotate through CCI SV, CCI MM, Eley Contact, Eley Force. Have some Norma Tac-22 that I got a good deal on and going to try those (i hear good things). I occasionally run Blazer... they are dirty, but they work too.
  18. just as an update, I ran a bunch of CCI SRP rounds through my PC Carbine last night with no issues. I have not made any specific spring changes.
  19. Although it probably would hurt to try an extra power hammer spring...
  20. The Canik can be made a little better with the Freedomsmith trigger. Also, I built a dedicated Open gun for my Canik TP9SFx utilizing an under frame pic rail. Carver Custom makes one for direct mounting of dots, but never got it to fit right. On mine I am running a Holosun 510c (I know, looks goofy). Most of the undermount rails were kinda high over the slide, but I found one that was a lot lower. If it's too long for your liking, then just chop some of it off. I did have to sand down my Double Alpha insert to make it fit better. (https://amazon.com/gp/product/B07VWV5WM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

  22. Just as an aside, there are some bullet manufacturers out there that recommend loading their bullets with SRPs if shooting PCC to reduce the possibility of pierced primers. I can never remember if my lightened-trigger pistols can handle the SRP or not. I'm even starting to question whether my PC Carbine can handle them. I know they run in my AR-V so that's where i use them. Just to be safe (and until I can re-test) I save the SPPs for the other guns.
  23. Acme, Bayou, SNS, Gallant, Brazos, etc. use the Hi-Tek coating. Blue, PC, Precision and a couple others are using a different polymer-type coating. I've mostly used PC Bullets over the years, but recently switched to Everglades plated rounds as they were close in price plus usually have some decent sales throughout the year. Now I just need to shoot all the stuff I already made...
  24. Usually in the shooters meeting they let you know where the safe tables are. Also, with Steel Challenge or other steel leagues, there is really no reason to keep the gun in the holster all day. I get that some people prefer it, but nearly ever SC match there is a table/barrel/etc. at the shooters box and you can remove the gun from the bag there under the direction of the RO.
