  1. I ran a real world test this weekend at a 5-stage falling steel match with 35 targets per stage. The system ran great and felt great. Had one bad round which caused me to have to rack it out. It was not as bad as I thought. It was harder than a normal buffer system, but when you are in the zone you tend to do manual processes faster and harder. Probably cost me an extra second or so over my normal setup. The rest of the day was fine and it ran great. I'm not the fastest by far, but I did manage to finish 26th out of 95 PCC shooter for the match. Were it not for the one bad round I might have made top 20. Either way, it ran great and looking forward to running it in a SCSA match this weekend.
  2. I cannot recommend Taccom products enough. I have the XLW barrel w/ the superfeed and I love it.
  3. I'm in favor of #4. While a minority, some folks prefer to walk around holstered like they do for a USPSA match. That is their choice, so banning that practice seems a little off-putting. Just allow it and call it a day. Obviously this only corresponds to those shooting a centerfire handgun and a low-ready firearm during the same session.
  4. So I finally got to test mine. I actually had to test twice. The first test was marred with feeding issues and I wasn't sure if it was the Maxim or the mags. Turned out it was the brand new ETS 40-round CZ mags. Ok then... Today's test was as close to apples to apples as I could get. I ran my normal buffer setup (Taccom air buffer w. bolt weight), then the Taccom with no bolt weight and finally the Maxim. This was done with my 100gr (100PF) SCSA sanctioned match rounds, my 124gr SCSA club match rounds (110PF) and then finally some Blazer Brass factory. I did not notice much of a difference with the Taccom system and bolt weight vs. no bolt weight. I noticed a HUGE difference with the Maxim and my SC loads. I have it all on video and it's kinda hard to tell just looking at the muzzle rise. But it certainly felt different. It appeard to me that the dot hardly moved. I did not run any speed tests. https://rumble.com/v3pbhpt-maxim-defense-roller-delayed-buffer-test.html I think I'm going to leave this in for a little bit, give it some real world runs. I am not a huge fan of the racking difficulty. I'm running the Devil Dog Side Charger and it seems rather difficult. I have not tested with a different charging handle yet. I'm probably jinxing myself, but I have had very few issues with feeding in my AR-V so needing to fast rack has not been much of a concern. Besides, being an SCSA shooter I only really need 5 rounds to feed in a row. I was really worried about my sub-minor loads but it has handled them like a champ. True test comes in a falling steel match in a few weeks. Interested to see if it makes a big difference.
  5. I don't know why anyone would listen to this @Renno guy. He clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.
  6. I will suggest what I have seen working for some GM friends of mine and the different loaders: use the Rainbow Silicone spray. I believe they spray a little bit in the hopper and then just tumble the rounds to get them coated. They have no issues with loading the mags smoothly and shooting them. Or dump using the loader and just do it manually or with a mag assist tool: https://www.tandemkross.com/Loading-Tool-and-Lanyard-for-Single-Stack-22lr-Magazines_p_143.html https://www.maglula.com/product/x10-v10-lula/
  7. did you take it apart to do that greasing, or just worked it in?
  8. A holstered handgun could fall out any time, doesn't matter if you are shooting a rimfire pistol, rimfire rifle or a PCC. I completely agree that there is no real reason to be walking around holstered at a SCSA match, but some people do it. The same rules apply if the gun falls out of the holster during the course of fire. I honestly don't see the difference having a holstered centerfire gun and shooting ANY other gun from the low-ready. But if the "rules committee" chooses to prohibit RFPs and a holstered centerfire then it needs to be spelled out in the rules so there is no need to interpret the meaning.
  9. You might notice a small difference. I have the TK buffer and love it.
  10. It's all a matter of the bullet weight and powder. Some powders are better suited to make PF than others. Some powder can make it but you have to run a heavy bullet to offset. If you can get a light bullet and powder combination to make PF then go for what works.
  11. He actually addressed it in a recent NROI Podcast (not sure how many people listen to it). But it still didn't make sense to me. To add insult to injury the opening disclaimer to the podcast states "rules discussions do not constitute an official ruling" and "the only official rulings are published..." Yes: 8.1.8 is published but again, not mentioning a 2nd handgun. IANAL and I don't write legalese but my opinion is that just because a long gun is mentioned that doesn't automatically make a rimfire pistol verboten. If they want to ban this 2 handgun behavior then add it to the rule book. Again, I know this entire situation is somewhat rare in Steel Challenge.
  12. I received mine last week but have been too busy with a Tier II match this weekend to play with it.
  13. I'm going to try and keep the background brief, but I would love to hear the opinions on what follows... This weekend I was the RM for the East Coast Steel Challenge Championship. Prior to the start of one of the sessions, another local match RM talked to me about shooters wearing a holstered pistol (revo, co, open, ltd, etc) and shooting a 2nd pistol (rfpo, rfpi) and that it's verboten. I expressed that I had not heard of this in the rules and it would be something rare as most shooters don't typically wear a holstered handgun all day. He said he had a letter from NROI saying this "double pistol" was not allowed. My response was I have never heard about this and would look at the rules. Fast forward a couple of hours and one of my ROs came to me with this EXACT scenario. Talk about coincidence... I told him to just let it go and I'll look into it. So I started digging. The only mention of this is Rule 8.1.8: Competitors entered in a long gun and a handgun division may wear a holstered handgun while competing with the long gun. The handgun may not be loaded or drawn while competing with a long gun. A dropped handgun while competing with a long gun will be a disqualification per 10.3.3 OK, we have a starting point. But this only mentions long guns. The idea of a "double pistol" is not mentioned in the rules anywhere. That being said, I see this as if it is not explicitly prohibited in the rules, then by default it is allowed. However, that previously mentioned RO reached out to DNROI for clarification: So, according to DNROI, this double pistol is illegal as the rule only mentions a long gun. My contention is since the rule does not mention a 2nd pistol, how can it be illegal. I'm really curious to everyone's thoughts on this. Is it worth even having a potential argument with a competitor when you ask them to bag up their holstered handgun? I can see having this same, lengthy, discussion at a stage with someone that asks the same questions I'm asking. Am I to carry the DNROI opinion around to show the shooter? I can just see it now: RO: When I tell you to "Make Ready" please unholster and bag your handgun before readying your rimfire pistol Shooter: What? Why? RO: It's not allowed. Rule 8.1.8 only mentions shooting a long gun with a holstered handgun, therefore you can't shoot a 2nd pistol. Shooter: But it doesn't mention a 2nd pistol specifically right? RO: Correct Shooter: Then show me the rule that specifically mentions a holstered handgun and a rimfire pistol RO: I have this email from the DNROI that says it's illegal Shooter: Where is the specific rule? RO: Rule 8.1.8 Shooter: Which doesn't mention a 2nd pistol... (and the back and forth continues) OK, have at it. I'm open to hearing what everyone thinks. ETA: Completely understand that 10.3.3 would still apply should the holstered gun fall out during the course of fire with the rimfire pistol. BTW: that DID NOT happen in this scenario. There was no dropped gun and no DQ, just the question of legality of holstered centerfire and shooting rimfire pistol
  14. Off Topic: That is also why there have been numerous discussions about SCSA having it's own Board... /threadjack
  15. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. I ordered 6/24 and sent an email for an update exactly 1 month ago on 8/11. I did get a return phone call rather than an email. I don't remember the specifics but they are "working on it".
  16. 98 guns = 55 shooters 47 guns = 38 shooters
  17. It's my understanding that the Lifetime Membership is still $500 and won't increase to $1000 until Oct 1. If you plan to continue with USPSA/SCSA then this is the path I recommend. At the current rate of $65 a year that's only 7.6 years you would need to keep going. On the plus side you no longer have to remember to renew
  18. based on the games you stated above I would assume that you are looking at Minor loads. I cannot even begin to tell you how much info is in these forums. At this point projectiles are easily found whether coated, plated or jacketed. It comes down to how much you are willing to spend. I would recommend staying away from the coated for the ported barrel as lead could build up. Powder and primers are another story. You can find online but you are going to usually have extra fees for HazMat shipping. Not sure where you are located by many local gun shops stock some powder, just not in great quantities unless they have a large reloading section. Everyone is going to have their favorite powders but I think it's going to come down to what you can find in stock. As I am a Steel Challenge shooter I don't have to make a power factor, but Through testing I know that I can make it by just changing the weight of my projos. This way I don't have to mess with my powder drop. Heavier bullets at a slower FPS will feel softer in recoil. But many times it all boils down to what the gun likes and how it responds. Welcome to the rabbit-hole of reloading.
  19. Does anyone have a formula or already laid out stages for reduced stages. I know we have discussed things before, but I wanted to see if someone had the information before I had to get out the slide rule and graphing calculator. This winter I wanted to get some more live fire practice in but the only option I have is my indoor club where I have to shoot from the 50-foot or 33-foot line. Obviously I won't actually be shooting steel and will have to have a setup that is linear against the bullet traps. I'm looking at using plates or self-sealing targets. Any help would be appreciated.
  20. Anyone know anything about Aguila primers? I know a number of shooters that seem to enjoy their rimfire ammo.
  21. the last local match I attended there were 98 guns registered and only 8 shooters total that didn't have a USPSA number. Match before that there were 47 guns and 15 shooters without memberships (although that match typically gets more new shooters than other local matches)
  22. glad i got my lifetime before the increase.
  23. Take this for what it's worth as I load for Steel Challenge and don't need to make PF. In my load testing and development over the years I found the following: The PC Bullet (RNFP) is a poly-coated and the Everglades (RN) is plated. I know it's not as popular but Clays is really soft shooting and the 147gr. gets me to minor with no pressure spikes or anything. My AR-V has the Taccom XLW barrel so the effective rifling is 5.25" which is the same as my Canik TP9 SFx.
  24. I have the Tandemkross trigger and it removed the return spring altogether. I've always had a positive reset with it. But what works for one may not work for another. Glad you found a solution.
  25. So was powder shopping today and came across Midwest Powders (actual powder not the website that is scammy). I'd never heard of them. Apparently their 240 powder is similar to W572 amd their 255 powder is similar to CFE Pistol. https://americanreloading.com/265-reloading-pistol-powder
