  1. Pretty much what ummm stated: get out of the way and provide a couple of pockets. Can't really find anything in the stores but I hadn't thought if trying my local Army/Navy Surplus. I'd have to buy the Magnum PI shirt anyway, so may as well go for a vest.

  3. .41 and .357 Redhawks have been discontinued for some time, and I think pretty pricey when you do find them. Years ago, Herters imported SAs chambered in a proprietary .41 caliber, the .401 Powermag. They were probably made by J.P. Sauer. Seems like I read once they could be rechambered in .41 mag. So if you really want a .41 magnum SA besides a Ruger and enjoy challenging projects, you could hunt up a Herters and possibly get it converted. It's possible some of the older, obscure imports from Germany or Italy were chambered in .41 magnum, like the Iver Johnson Cattleman or the Virginian Dragoon. Sounds like a fun thing to research. I always thought the Iver Johnsons looked like pretty good revolvers that closely-resembled the Colt New Frontier. Edit: according to this article, there were some Interarms Virginians made in .41 mag: http://www.singleactions.com/VADragoons.pdf
  4. It is so freaking irritating when you're looking for a product, find it on a retailers site, drill down on an item only to see "sold " or "out of stock. I guess if there's a reasonable chance they'll be getting the item back in stoc soon , that's fine. But like when I was trying to find Aussie PD S&W model 66s, they're not likely to get more in so take the damn listing down. Especially frustrating when the listing is a couple years old .
  5. I feel your pain: My son loves sports (11) and plays football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling. I recently got an email about a La Crosse leage that I didn't let him see. He played select ball for 2 years. One season select is the same as about 5 or 6 regular seasons. There is SO much BS and politics around it all. Coaches think it's all about them. We're back to rec-league baseball but the quality of play and especially coaching is agonizing to watch. Then he makes all stars which is just like select. Don't get me wrong: it's loads of fun, wife & I love watching him play. Son and us made lots of good friends playing balll. When you spend 3 nights per week and every weekend together, they get to be like family.
  6. I've seen what a Carmonized hammer looks like, but what's the trigger?
  7. I better stay away then. You don't want two. I spent six years developing marketing database apps, and let me tell you, those folks could teach the NSA a thing or two.
  8. LoadData.com lists some .38 special loads using "BBC" round nose bullets in 125 and 158 grain weights. The data was originally published in Handloader #234 and lists power factors, so I'm guessing they were developed for action shooting.
  9. To make things worse, there is now an M-69 that is a 5-shot .44 Magnum on the L-Frame.
  10. I love my 24-3, but no ICORE matches around here and no decent SLs. I have read that guns chambered for rimmed rounds don't take moon-clipping as well. Bullets would be a problem for indoor matches, I don't know of any coated, plated, or FMJ .430 bullets. psks2, What SLs are you using?
  11. Yeah, I agree with the earlier post about building on the Wiley Clapp edition. If they'd used the adjustable Micro RS like on the flat tops, they might sell me.
  12. OK, here's a tip from a relative noob who is just learning the Jerry Miculek techniques: When you use the high hold on a revolver with the web of your hand over the top of the grip frame (which I highly recommend, much better control), you have to roll your wrists forward to compensate for the different grip angle. After draw or reload, remember to get your wrists into the correct position before bringing the gun to target, otherwise your front sight will be be way too high when it gets there. That may be obvious to everyone else, but it took me a while:-)
  13. Howdy from your neighbor just west on I20 in Benbrook.
  14. I am scraping for whatever I can that'll go bang and found an lb of this from my shot gunning days. I saw a couple loads in some old Winchester manual I found online, but I can't even find it on the burn-rate charts. Is there a current equivalent? Thanks?

  16. Best marry her quick before she gets away. That's a redneck engagement ring:-)
  17. +2 Get the Jerry Miculek "Trigger Job" video. The video was made prior to the switch from forged to MIM parts, but the parts and techniques are pretty much the same, except where the trigger contacts the cylinder stop. There is also nothing to file off of the cylinder release as he shows in the vid. I already knew some tricks to smoothing an S&W, but learned a lot more watching it. I purchased and S&W 24-3 in 1985 and had a local GS give it a competition action job. This was 15 years before I'd ever heard of primer hardness and it popped many thousands of CCI 300s without fail. I don't own a pull gauge and don't know what the DA pull is, but a friend once measured the SA at 1.9 lbs, and it is by far the smoothest, lightest DA I have ever shot. In short, you can probably do at least 80% of what you could using Federal primers. The extra 20% probably only matters to the very top level shooters.
  18. I'm sure this simply usererror , but I installed tap talk for the first time, 2,4,1 and can't find this forum, either using search or browse.
  19. How do I reduce first-shot dwell-ltime? Going from holster or reload back on target, I'm slow with the first round. And I almost invariably put it a couple inches out about 3:00. Thanks!
  20. Want a reasonable gauge? Grab a 12oz beverage can. See how close your thumb and "middle" finger come to touching. It's a pretty good indicator. Thanks, but what does that tell me about which brand/style grips will fit me, especially when I can't try them first?
  21. JohnMac, About how big are your hands? If I were to line up palms with say, LeBron James, my fingertips might reach to the second joint of his finger:-) yes I have stubby fingers, I'm on 2nd wife with longer digits than me! Hogues are fine when I can set the gun in my hand, when drawing, though, the center of my palm is not contacting the grip at all. I'm new & dunno if that's technique, or poor-fitting grips.
  22. They'll have some more made in about a month. Thanks TG!
