  1. I run a Limcat Shielded safety to prevent this. It also doesn't take much practice to just roll the thumb outside a little more and get it away from the slide, but easy route is a shielded safety. Definitely don't change the recoil spring for this.
  2. I don’t often replace the disco unless it’s acting up or really ugly MIM. Just polish the pad that rests on the trigger bow. I’m not sure I know enough about the disco Besides doing the safety checks to know why replacing one from a decent, modern gun (STI, Dan Wesson) would be warranted
  3. I have had great luck with the Brazos pro series trigger kit. You will likely need to fit the thumb safety. I’ve personally used 4 and had friends and family use about 5 more.
  4. We're monitoring the situation closely. We've got over 200 people registered so far, so it doesn't seem to be scaring people off. All of the bills we've seen thus far have proposed implementation dates of 2020 or something like that.
  5. I have this same dilemma. Don’t want to cerakote as that will probably take some of the aggressiveness off the grip being that it’s such a thick finish, plus my gun already is IonBond DLC’d. Lots of finishing outfits like IonBond and Black Nitrate have a minimum order value of $300
  6. https://benstoegerproshop.com/belts-holsters-pouches/kits/complete-rig/ This helps explain the options for you. I like the ghost pouches with bullets out options.
  7. I just took a Bruce Piatt 1911 Build class last week, and I wouldn't hesitate to use that gun in competition. My experience leading into it was limited, basically keeping my single stacks running for the last few years. The guns we built in class were solid and dead reliable, thanks to hands on instruction with Bruce. From what I know about Don, I don't have reason to think it would be any different.
  8. May also want to make sure the left edge of the left leg of the sear spring isn't dragging on the side of the frame. This will add extra drag / weight to the whole system. If it is dragging, you can polish that edge of the sear spring a little on a buffer wheel until it moves freely. The sear spring, and quality of the angles and surfaces on the sear and hammer hooks are most of what make a good trigger press. Could also look for burrs on the surfaces inside the frame that the trigger shoe, trigger bow, and hammer ride on.
  9. Para makes one I think. Otherwise there’s a few Trojan 40s on GunBroker usually.
  10. I've lost 3 sets this season, so I guess I need to put some blue loc-tite on there.
  11. We were overwhelmed by the support this year and had record attendance for an Illinois Sectional in 2018. Thanks to all the support and appreciation all the shooters and sponsors have expressed, the staff, and the support of the Northern Illinois Section members...Ryan has decided to run it once again. With the new logo, it will be apparent who our 2019 title sponsor is, so want to give a big shout out "Thank You!" to SNS Coated Bullets for being the 2019 title sponsor. Jim and Ryan...I and the rest of the shooting community appreciate your support an involvement in the sport. Match date is scheduled for August 23rd-25th, 2019. Based in early reports, this is 3 weeks after Area 3 and 2 weeks prior to Area 5, so we hope this fits into everyone’s schedule.
  12. Odd that it didn't fit in the box with the ICE. The Sig Max is series 80 right? If I were you, I'd buy the series 80 conversion kit (a few little block-off plugs and plates), and pick up a drop in trigger setup from Brazos or Dawson. All you need to fit is the Thumb Safety locking block usually. It's a bear the first time you do it, but just go slow, find some youtube videos, and make sure you do all your safety checks when you're done.
  13. I used to be a huge fan of STI, then the last ~5 years have made me write them off entirely. I’m encouraged with Dave coming back on board. I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
  14. With just over 3 weeks left before the match, lots of things are wrapping up and being finalized. Rich from Canyon Creek sent these pics over of the build he did for the match. Thank you Rich for donating your time to help out the Illinois USPSA community and making another great contribution to the match. The gun started off as a Springfield armory Range Officer donated by KAP Guns with lots of goodies supplied by Evolution Gun Works Inc. It features lots of Rich’s signature touches like the squared, checkered, and undercut trigger guard, snake bellied slide, and blended magwell. It’s also had the hard-tail grip safety treatment, front cocking serrations added, the front strap checkered, and the rear of the slide checkered. Raffle Tickets will be available in the clubhouse where you register!
  15. My guess is that SVI trigger bows for metal grips don’t fit in plastic grips unless modified. This was their version of modifying.
  16. Happy to announce yet another sponsor of the match. Kita Busse, movement coach at 180 Firearms Training is contributing two class certificates valued at $350-400 each. Also, if her publication schedule stays on track, we'll have several copies of her book "Smart Move" as well. With time being the denominator in calculating hit factor, efficiency in movement can result in huge gains. This is a great resource and opportunity for shooters to utilize. Thanks Kita!
  17. Only 82 slots left in the match with two months to go. Matchbook drafted. Some things may get tweaked over time however, the following link should always point to the latest version. Thanks to all the sponsors for donating items, staff for volunteering your time, knowledge and expertise, and to the competitors for registering and giving us all an opportunity to challenge your abilities. See you there! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-hpFGv72WVAUMivVFsC8t_yiocakcjb-/view?usp=sharing
  18. We're only a few registrations away from hitting the 200 mark. That means it's almost time to give away another Hundo to a paid registrant. Stage sponsor Ben Stoeger Pro Shop is giving us a great deal on them and we're happy to pass on to our attendees. They'll also be contributing a lot of other great items to competitors attending the match. Stages are determined and in the final stages of drafting and will be getting submitted for review by USPSA soon. Looking to be 12 stages plus chrono, in excess of a 300 round count. Thanks everyone!
  19. Build update! Mark Sorenson of Carne Customs sent these pics along of one of our two custom raffle guns for this year. The gun just got back from black nitrating
  20. Is the baseplate retaining plate up-side-down? The little plastic guy that locks the baseplate on? I use the Tripp 9 rounders, not sure if the System mags have the same plate.
  21. Thanks to Techwearusa, staff and shooters alike will have the opportunity to look stylish and represent our Platinum sponsors that make the match possible. Folks can chose from a Premier Polo where they can add their name front and back or a Crewneck style. Shooters can click the link to proceed to the TechwearUSA store and order their shirt to be shipped to their home. https://techwearusa.com/garments/match-jerseys/illinois-sectional-championship.html
  22. Free entry into the match! ... Our sponsors are the best. XS Sights is not only donating three gift certificates, each good for one set of sights up to $215.00, but they are also offering their sponsor slot to one lucky Junior, Lady, Law Enforcement, or Military shooter with their compliments. To include all those that have already registered, the match will randomly select an individual at the match and issue a cash reimbursement of the entry fee that they would have already paid during the match registration process. Thanks XSSights!
  23. Thanks to Brack Wilson of Patriot Cases we'll have the world's best gun cases available to go with the two custom guns being built.
