  1. Nice! Innovative! Blindingly yellow!
  2. Well, that seems a reasonable solution. We don't want anyone going home unhappy, when there's so much fun to be had .
  3. This is interesting, from a guy who recommends that newcomers start in Steel Challenge and progress to USPSA after a year of getting their feet wet! Which isn't a bad idea, considering the complexities of "runnin' and gunnin'". It's also an old form of winning an argument by overstating the other person's position and making fun of it. Nobody said to "send a first timer home for a minor technical issue". The OP was smart, asked first, found out what the rule is, and can adjust as needed. If someone turns up with an optical device on their 1911, there's a Division they can shoot in (and, after all, the argument goes "he'll come in last place" anyway, or "he won't win the Winnebago", or whatever). I know of several high-quality clubs where people start USPSA with Level-II stages and application of all the rules, and they grow right into themselves and the sport without undue psychological harm. There's an ongoing thread about "how come we can't get people involved in USPSA", and it seems that about half the folks who come once don't come back anyway, and the ones who want to get familiar with the rule book (eventually ), adjust their gear, and rock and roll with the rest of us.
  4. I think many would say a 1050 + Ammobot is a perfectly fine reloading solution, and a lot less expensive to boot. Do what you want, of course, but there are options.
  5. Special rules for newcomers? Why don't we want to apply the rules at Level I? How is anybody going to learn?
  6. Nope. If it has an optic (on or off) it goes to Open.
  7. So, *exactly* how many rounds do their mags hold?
  8. That's an idea. Use the two return springs instead of the return rod.
  9. Agreed. I don't pick up either 9 or 38 any more. Also agree we've gotten away from the original topic. Let's go back to discussing the relative merits of Atlas and Akai. Anybody have both and can give us a good read?
  10. Better yet, how about just comparing the Evo measure to the Dillon (or others that are similar in design to the Evo) for accuracy and spread? They're all mechanical devices, and shouldn't they be able to hold to some standard of accuracy?
  11. And if "cheaper" (or plain 'ole "cheap") is what you're after, you win! I just can't figure out why folks who'll spend $4000 or so on a new gun, tons on belt, mags, etc, upwards of $2000/year on ammo (that's figuring cheap 9mm range brass), and heavens knows how much on match fees and travel figure it's necessary to brag about picking up other peoples' used brass off the ground to save a few bucks? Proportionally, that doesn't sound like much of a gain.
  12. That's about .3 grain, or 7% of the median charge weight, if I have it right. Not very accurate?
  13. Uh, nope. Bullseye is patience. Action shooting is I WANNA SHOOT LOTSA ROUNDS RIGHT NOW! (Ok, breathe, relax ... )
  14. How does the Evo itself work? Is it smooth when you crank it up to a decent speed?
  15. Has anybody tried using the Dillon powder measure on the Evo / Evo Pro, perhaps while waiting for the Mk7 measure to come back from service? How well does it work, including at speed?
  16. Shouldn't the powder measure work properly at all speeds the machine is designed to operate at? Both manual and automated - especially automated, since that's its big selling point ("up to speeds of 2,500 rounds per hour").
  17. Curious - how many rounds of 9mm will a 171mm (USPSA "big stick") Glock mag hold? What do you make them from? G34 mag plus somebody's mag extension?
  18. I am not complaining about them. People in the non-competitive community are. Having a 100% reliable solution for 2011s (which mecgar would be) could alleviate that complaint. Sorry I wasn't clear. I know you shoot 2011. Nothing's 100%, but most of the folks I know have MBX or tuned STI mags that work fine, so what is MecGar going to do differently? Make a cheap, thinner-walled mag that's less reliable?
  19. All you guys should just shoot Glocks. Reliable & cheap gun and mags. Why complain about 1911s? Go Glock!
  20. Wouldn't that be a *Glock* mag that costs 20 bucks? Plastic, thick walls, less capacity?
  21. It's easy NOW. Just look at the timer...
  22. Or buy new, shoot it 6 or 7 times in practice, then leave it on the ground at matches, without guilt. (Or shoot it 8 or 9 times. Whatever!)
  23. Amen on the Geppert X-Lines. Good feel, adjustable length, smooth. Often takes some fitting, but not bad.
