  1. Books?!? We don't need no stinkin' books! 45 shooters are the only ones in USPSA who are even close to book loads
  2. I wouldn't worry about the die pushing down on the powder a little with CFE, I've compressed it with the bullet without issue. My question is this: is your M die going in further than your bullet seating depth? You load doesn't look like the bullet would touch the powder, so why should the die? Is your bullet really long?
  3. How about a little more information? What charge of which powder? bullet weight? OAL, it seems to me you might be running the expander die in further than you need to, especially if you're splitting cases.
  4. Not to interrupt this 'anti compressed load' excitement, but I don't think the OP is saying he's compressing the powder with the bullet, but rather with his expander die in position #3 before he seats the bullet right? We can talk about you irrational fear of "compressed loads" in another thread
  5. San Diego here, how about you?
  6. What you need to make the SA trigger more like the TS is shorter hammer hooks and internal polishing. I've tuned a sub 2# trigger on a SA using the by shorting the hooks on a stock hammer.
  7. If you're like me and a hole with no set screw bothers you, the 97B trigger is the same as the old style 85C trigger, but without the screw (costs less too!).
  8. I have some cut short to use with a mag well, which model do you have?
  9. I don't know, I was in diapers It's not about simple, if you square the velocity a 115gr bullet at 1,100fps is the same energy as a 230gr bullet at 778fps, but if you use the formula as is the first is 9mm is 127PF and the .45 is 179PF, which do you think kicks more? See above, at the same energy level, heavier bullets produce more recoil, at the same PF they produce less, hence the preferred method picked by guys shooting .45s...
  10. If you have a short reset disco, you probably don't need the screw at all. I don't use them. It all depends on how the tolerances stack.
  11. A 40 barrel in a 9mm slide would be a .40 action express (the picture above is .41AE and 9mm, I'm pretty sure .40AE doesn't exist )
  12. I'm confused, if money is an issue, why are you getting a Shadow Target? A tuned SP01 will make you pretty happy for a third the cost. Getting a TS slide fit to a Shadow is not a cheap operation either. Besides, if you fit a 40 top end to a Shadow you'll only get 15 rnds max of .40 in a 140mm mag. If the TS grip is too large, I suggest an EAA Limited, the grip size is more in line with the small frame CZs, plus you can get a Limited and an SP01 for the cost of a Shadow Target.
  13. I suspect the P01 dust cover is not long enough to cover the recoil system of the TS slide.
  14. I would use a toaster oven to heat it evenly. I used a plumber's torch once and discolored the barrel.
  15. Don't you wish it were that easy! I know for a fact there were small frame Stock IIs (rare) and small frame Stock IIIs (more common than large frame) in 9mm imported to the US. Since the Hunters are only available in 10mm and .45 they're all large frame, I've seen one or two small frame Limiteds in .40, so it's nothing you can bet your life on, but new Elite pistol = large frame is a pretty safe assumption (except the Stock III, most 9mms are small frame). For a minute Tanfoglios were also imported by IFG (a flash in the pan from the owner of EAA) which had it's own models and combinations, but they're rather rare (although I do have a custom Open gun with one of the first 20 serial numbers from IFG )
  16. Welcome to the forum David, here's a place for you to start: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=178651 The most important thing in slide swapping is frame size: small frame slides with small frames and large frame slides with large frames, the next is dust cover length, for instance a Limited Pro dust cover is not long enough to cover the recoil system of a Hunter slide. After that if it 'should' fit, it probably will, but you need to recognize the concept of tolerance stacking: if you want to use a (relatively) big slide in a (relatively) tight frame you will likely need to do some fitting and on the contrary, a small slide in a loose frame will rattle a little.
  17. Why must you call names?!? We all love to shoot We have more in common than not, so why let inventory levels and personal financial choices divide us???
  18. Yes, we're all way off the reservation Like others have mentioned, loading longer than the book suggests helps to mitigate increased pressure of going over the max charge weight, but most of us still shoot pressures well beyond the recommended max. I've noticed the slower the powder, the closer you get to major before exceeding the book loads. For instance VitaVuori lists a max 9x21 load for 3N38 with a 115gr at 1.16" which makes 171pf (this is actually the same result I get from the same load in a 9x19 case).
  19. Yes, in theory there is potential for extraction issues/accelerated extractor wear with a 9mm case on a 40 breech, but I've never experienced any. My 9 barrel/40 slide trials have only been a few hundred rounds long, but I do have a friend who's shot a TS that way for over a year.
  20. It doesn't appear that way. The way I read it there are 539 GM classifications and each GM could hold as many as 6, so there are likely much fewer GMs than 500.
  21. If anyone is looking I have a brand new gunsmith fit, Briley 9mm barrel for small frame I'd be interested in selling - $200 shipped
  22. I have a Briley gunsmith fit 6" 9mm barrel for small frame if anyone is looking
