  1. I've got a 6" 10mm barrel if you want to do a .40 super conversion!
  2. When I had a .45 Witness I could not get it to shoot semi-wadcutters, I used them up in a 1911.
  3. Yes Tom, I just noticed the same thing... I hadn't looked at the Hodgdon burn rate chart for a while (my go to) and when I directed someone there I noticed WAC is listed slower than HS6 which I haven't found to be consistent with my data. All things being equal it takes another grain or so to make the same PF. I just tried CFE Pistol which I find to be similar to WAC and they list that slower than HS6 too?!? What do they have against HS6 all the sudden??? Silhouette is listed way slower than it was as well...
  4. I'm thinking the same thing now No spacers in the mags right? large frame mags use spacers for 9mm (well most of them...)
  5. I don't think telling someone they're not good enough to worry about their equipment is a very reasonable response to an honest question. Are there advantages to a longer gun? yes, but there are disadvantages as well; how these factors are balanced has a lot to do with personal preference and ability level. Like Sarge said, the longer the barrel, the less powder to make the same PF, the longer the sight radius, the easier it is to group well on far targets, the longer the recoil system, the softer/more linear the recoil; however, the longer the gun, the heavier it is, and the slower to get moving. Depending on the platform you choose and how strong you are the added weight may be an acceptable trade off, but a steel frame, full weight 6" Limited gun definitely steers like a battleship for most mere mortals. To say that a C class shooter with a 6" 2011 will beat a GM with a 3" Glock is absurd, to to say Robert will not score any better with the former over the latter is also absurd. Contrary to what Jack said above, I think the equipment makes a bigger relative difference at the lower skill levels, at least that seemed to be the case for me. When I first started out, the heavier and softer the better; I wanted to soak up all the recoil I could so I could feel more in control of the pistol. As I've gotten better I've begun to appreciate the quick transitions of a lighter pistol and have loosened up on my concept of 'control'. Now I prefer to look at my time with the pistol as more of a dance than 'control'.
  6. I have a few custom Tanfo Open guns, not because they're better than 2011s, but because I'm sick I like playing around and experimenting, plus I like the ergos of CZ75 pattern pistols, but it's certainly the road less traveled and is wrought with challenges. In my experiences, there are two areas where the 2011s have a distinct advantage: comp innovation and the weight. There are lots of builders coming up with great comps for 2011s, but that's not the case with CZ/Tanfo; also, a CZ/Tanfo Open gun is in a pretty heavy gun and can be lightened, but obviously not to the same extent.
  7. You look plenty competent to compete, enjoy yourself and be safe, so do just that I'm not sure what you expected when you started this thread, but I don't think there's anything anyone can say which would positively effect your performance this weekend; on a longer timeline there may be some shooters here, better than I, who can give you some helpful tips for improvement. In the short run I think the only thing you can do is work on the mental game: quiet your conscience mind and focus on letting your body shoot to it's full potential, the scores will reflect your ability and your conscience mind can only effect them negatively. Come up with a plan, see the sights, execute
  8. They're investments!Www.uplandsportsman.com Introducing the Zero Interference Shotgun Sling, enjoy all day shotgun carrying comfort without a lighter gun. Ha! That's what I've been telling my wife for years. The problem is when I sell one she wants to know how much we made... 100% profit honey! That one was fully depreciated
  9. Do it! Like dansedgli said, you can buy an Open gun or buy a bunch of other guns, then buy an Open gun
  10. Just one more thing: relax. You seem to be all wrapped up with your expected performance this weekend; why all the pressure?
  11. 2011s are the most popular by far. I have STI, Tanfoglio and CZ Open guns, the big advantage of the STIs are all the comps available and the light weight of the plastic grips.
  12. Ummm... Burnt bronze??? http://m.cerakoteguncoatings.com/finishes/H-148Q/burnt-bronze/
  13. I assume you're asking about two identical TSs one in 9, the other 40 at the same PF? 9mm major without a comp is positively nasty! Just in case you don't know, 9mm is not a legal round for major in Limited (although I think 357 Sig is legal now right?).
  14. Should be cool Ever try 115s? You might like 'em
  15. Shorter barrel, more holes, lighter bullets, these are all factors which work against you making major. A full length 38 with no holes has the most options with regards to bullets and powders which can make major, on the other hand a short 9mm with holes might only make major with a whole case full of Autocomp under a 124. Does that make sense? I'd say a short barrel is a bigger hindrance than holes or the case (38/9).
  16. Following a topic can update you with email notification of every subsequent reply.
  17. I GUESS you could follow this rational advice, but you COULD buy two dozen guns, shoot a different one every month and not improve much in two years like I did! ETA: I agree, the only difference between 9 and 38 is the amount you obsess over the brass.
  18. Here's what I recommend: after you see your first classifier score decide which "race to" thread is most appropriate for you, then read the names of the other members, you'll recognize one or two names in particular from threads you've been reading, then reach out to them. Or not, who says they need to know you're chasing them!?!
  19. It is, depending on your hammer/sear combo, it may require fitting.
  20. Limited Pro has the wide, single safety you're looking for.
