  1. Not all 9 major loads are created equal, with a slow powder like 3n38 and a barrel with no holes you can actually make major with a 9x21 book load. The faster the powder the further outside the book loads you have to go; holes in the barrel and/or short barrels take more powder. Its actually safer than you might think, I've found when you push a slow powder too hard it just stops gaining velocity. I'd bet there had been more blown up guns with 40 major, super fast powders and heavy bullets. With something like 3n38 you cab fill the case to the brim, jam a bullet down and shoot it without issue.
  2. I'm not sure how close compact grips are but I think they're close.
  3. Wait, you have Czechmates?!?
  4. I prefer the CZC mag well as well, my support hand pinkie hangs over the bottom of the CZ UB model (looks cool though).
  5. Weight lifting is not nearly as useful for building grip strength as working with your hands day in and day out. I've been in the office for 7 years, but I still have more residual grip strength from working as a pipefitter than my body building brothers in law. They got pretty sheepish when they egged me into pulling out the #2 one night at dinner
  6. Send a message to Stuart at CZC he'll figure it out.
  7. From what I hear the first .40 1911s would not cycle unless loaded 1.2"+; I think that's where it came from. Beyond that I think it's largely driven by superstition. Clays is regarded as one of the more volatile fast powders, but this thread seems to contradict the dangers of loading it short: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=205116#entry2312698 Obviously there are no shortcuts and you have to work up your own loads with your own gear, but I dont think there's anything inherently bad about loading close to SAAMI length.
  8. Some guys are obsessed with "loading long" just like the 2011 guys, and so they struggle with K10 bulging issues or 'old style' 10mm mags and their issues with bulged brass but I dont think it's at all necessary; I believe the easiest, most reliable route is K40s with ammo loaded ~1.135".
  9. When my CZ gets dirty I just put it away and buy another one
  10. I pretty sure that's not true. CZC sells three lengths of grips: Full sized: Medium: Short: I'm fairly certain you need the short for the Czechmate mag well, but the medium for the CZC/factory mag well on the TS (I wouldn't bet my life on it because I use the rubber grips cut to fit on all my CZs/small frame Tanfos).

    Czechmate

Yeah that's where the question came from lol When they're in stock at CZ USA they're $30 cheaper!

M14x1! M14x1! This typo almost cost trgt a barrel It's a metric thread, 14mm major diameter with a 1mm wide thread The Tanfoglio threads are M14x0.75 for small frame and M15x0.75 for large frame.
  13. A few reasons I can think of: -Compensators. Comps are allowed in Open and they do a lot to dissipate the high energy of a 9mm major round making it easier on the gun and the shooter. -also the most advantageous reloading approach with a comp (slow powder/light bullet) is much safer than that of a non-compensated pistol (fast powder/heavy bullet) -added capacity without a scoring disadvantage would be a game changer -creates another division with a wide gap in 'competitiveness' between hand loaded ammo and off the shelf ammo. I won't argue whether these effects are good or bad for the sport, but these are the effects as I see them (and as a 9mm major shooter in Open I dont really have a dog in this hunt This is an interesting idea! Looking at book data from Hodgdon, I suspect you could make major with pretty fast powder in 357 Sig with a 165gr pill which should be much softer than a 40 major round using a 165gr bullet* *I did an experiment with 40 minor vs 9 minor in my Stock II: I loaded 3.5gr of Clays behind a plated 135 in both 9mm and 40; the 9 made 125PF, while the 40 only made 103PF. Even at 125 vs 103, the 40 resulted in a significantly harsher recoil impulse. This leads me to conclude that for any given powder/charge/bullet weight the smaller diameter bullet should be faster/softer although I'd love to test more data points (like 200gr in 40 and 45).
  14. You drop your big stick on the ground?!? With the time, effort and money spent on getting a big stick which runs reliably I never plan to let it touch the ground. If I plan a reload I use all short sticks.
  15. Surely there's some value you can provide: process the brass, pull the handle, case gauge, make sandwiches, give foot rubs
  16. As long as the holster is open on the bottom (or you cut it open), it should be OK. Have you tried a holster with a muzzle platform like the CRSpeed?
  17. I can think of a few reasons to have at least three mags on your belt, all with the same capacity: -fumbled reloads -double feeds -options on reload position -makeup shots 15 rounds won't get you through two 8 shot arrays, so that mag is basically only good for one shooting position.
