  1. Chris, thanks for the kind words. Eddie, Ed and myself do try to make sure that you are comfortable with your choices and that the gun you choose is perfect for what you need it to do. One of the added benefits is the Eddie and myself spend most free moments away from the shop shooting matches so we are able to tailor our guns to what works and what doesn't. Not saying we are the only ones who do this, but it does certainly give us an advantage.
  2. Eddie must have thought there was Taco Bell in the tube, that is why he got down there so quick!
  3. Nick hasn't chimed in yet, but I was running the board when he shot the long range stage on Saturdays match and he had a one shot hit on a 540 yard target with that 14.5 and his Vortex 1-6. It was pretty impressive to say the least.
  4. Safari land is the only way to go for 3 gun. You can buy I now or later on but eventually you will get it. Look for one of their 50% off cards and it will be cheaper than buying the options above.
  5. I have a 28" sportsman and built it up completely for less than 1000.00. Including every part you could add the welded lifter and the loading port opened up which I did myself. Now I got z screaming deal on the base gun at $769.00 brand new but you can easily do everything for under. 300.00
  6. Nick, Sam Travis shoots a 14.5 and whips most people's asses out to 300 yards. I would think a decent quality 14.5 would outshoot a poor quality 18. There is a school of thought the says the barrel rigidity of a shorter barrel is more of a benefit. Most of what we shoot here in AZ in 350 yards and closer, so I think there would be no disadvantage to a shorter gun. I was thinking of bringing my 11.5 to the next monthly match and trying it in Tac Irons.
  7. Did you happen to remove the inner spring on the bolt release bar? I had a similar issue when I tried this mod with a 11 round tube. When I went back to stock it works perfect. Good luck.
  8. This thread made m thin a bit. Has anyone shot both at speed and noticed a difference in reloading speed loading the 20 gauge. For weak hand loading I would think it would be easier shuffling the smaller 20 gauge shells.
  9. I agree with only adding a extended tube, first and stopping. Personally I haven't been bitten by a Benelli lifter, but have all of mine welded up because for $45.00 plus shipping its cheap insurance. That is all you need on a Benelli. Now I did end up adding a Extended Bolt Handle, Larger bolt release button, low drag follower. None of this is really needed though. I think out if the box the Benelli needs the least and runs the best.
  10. Heck yeah your dumb if I knew where they were for that price I would buy both!
  11. Thanks for all of the replies. In full disclosure I also have a FNH SLP MK1 in 22", but haven't got it to run 100% yet. I guess the main draw to the Benelli is its simplicity, plus I have only really shot one match with the Versa Max, but have had a couple of hiccups with it. The Benelli has a plus six Nordic tube on it so the overall length is probably about what a 23-24" barrel would be. I do have a Briley LM and IC extended choke for the benelli as well. I have a friend who shot his 18.5" M1S90 at th SMM3G match this last weekend and he had a bunch of issues with small plates with birdshot and the heavy plates with buckshot.
  12. Hi Everyone, I have been trying to decide between two extremes and wanted a little input. The 2 main shotguns want to use for 3 gun are a Benelli M2 Tactical with. 18.5" Barrel and Ghost Rings and a 28" Remington Versa Max. Funny thing is the weight and loading of the Benelli is much nicer to me than the Versa Max. Only issue I have had is its a bit harder to throw and remove the Versa Max from barrels fue to the overall length. Main question is how much will the shorter barrel hurt me in aerials and longer shots and overall? Any opinions will be appreciated.
  13. Now I got a screaming deal on my 28" Sportsman, and I am a dealer, so I paid dealer on the parts and opened the loading port up myself, but even at normal street prices on parts my total on it is $969.00 Versamax 28" Sportsman $769 Nordic plus 7 tube $70 Nordic Follower $18 Nordic Clamp $29 Nordic extended bolt release $13 Nordic extended Benelli bolt handle $25 Crums welded lifter $45 I know the Carbon Arms one piece tube looks amazing, but on a gun that cos me $769.00 spending $220.00 on a tube doesn't sound right, lol.
  14. Just my 2 cents but I recently picked up a 28" Sportsmans model and really really like it. Now my other gun is a 18.5" Benelli M2 so I am from one extreme to another. Funny thing is on my M2 I have a Nordic plus 6 extension and the overall length of the gun is just over 45". My Versamax with a Nordic plus 7 is just under 50" overall length. For that I get almost 10" more barrel length and 11 plus one as opposed to 9 plus one in the Benelli. Plus even with everything on the Remington I'm way under $1000.00 total.
  15. Thanks Mick, Richard and Rudy. I really need 250 rounds of .223.
  16. Nils is the only one who can do it this calendar year. He can definitely win Single Stack, Lmited, Production and Revo. I personally believe he can win open with his limited gun and a big stick. I also believe that the talent pool in open is dwindling and a great iron sight shooter can always bet a great open shooter.
  17. If you don't have enought mags to last you the rest of your life, then yes you need more. Most shooters love skimping on mags to save money, but they are consumable parts. They will and do wear out and if something does go down with a AWB I am pretty sure you will not he able to but replacement tubes anymore.
  18. Hi everyone, My fiend and I were talking and I was curious if anyone was running a 28" barreled Versa-Max for 3 gun? He wants at least 10 plus 1 so I told him if you are going to run a tube that long might as well have the barrel to match, plus he has found a 28" in stock locally at a good price. Any thoughts?
  19. Jesse, I have heard that. Here in Phoenix we have them at Sportsman's Warehouse and Cabelas. I have used the Federal Walmart #8 with good luck too.
  20. I have always shot the Estate 7.5, 3, 1 1/8 at 1200 fps because a shooter better than me said they always ran 100% for him and they have been 100% for me as well. They are on sale locally all of the time for around $5.29 per 25 which is cheaper than walmart.
  21. I think guns in that low 40 ounce ranges are perfect. Now I shoot a heavy Caspian frame with a very light 5" sight tracker slide. To me heavy frame/lower, with a extremely light 5" slide is perfect. I shot 6" guns in the 36 ounce total weigh range for two years and never warmed up to them. To me 5" guns just present and transition much better. Just my opinion.
  22. Caspian frames rule, period! In my opinion they are similar to STI in frame quality and consistency. I haven't spent the time required to iron out the msg issues as I normally shoot limited 10. Feel free to pm me with any questions and would look very to help you out.
  23. I think that USPSA will never be able to make it on mainstream TV to non USPSA shooters due to the fact that non shooters cannot follow the top shooters due to the overly complex scoring system. Steel challenge/Pro am is easy to follow as fastest guy wins. USPSA you need a calculator and wigi board to figure out who is doing well. Plus for the average competitor the lack of quality prize tables at larger matches doesn't help growth much.
  24. I do agree 100% that at a National level match something like a start position should be regulated and enforced. We aren't allowed to have our feel in the wrong position why our hands/arms. I have seem way worse than Jesse and Tori although Jesse is pretty much obvious. Another offender is Shannon Smith he has the single worse hand at sides I have ever seen.
  25. BJ is shooting a Cameron's Custom Guns 5" Limited Gun. Long Wide frame and extensively lightened slide.
