Realize this is an older post; but wx has finally broke and I've found some time to spend with the Bayou 135..... More of an earlier post where I was having good success with the 9mm Bayou 135, 3.7g N320 at 1.135" OAL. Some rounds out of the G17G4 at 25yds; and as usual the couple of flyers: Since my eyesight is not what it used to be, I decided to try a mag at 20yds. Definitely some vg grouping other than the flyers: More testing to come.......but I'm feeling very positive with the 135's.

Just stumbled onto this load over the weekend; my Son had loaded these last year, and we finally got a chance to test a few from the bench rest. Started out at 25yds, and due to my poor eye sight, decided to try 20 yds. One of the best groupings I've gotten from a stock G17G4. MG 147 CMJ 3.6gr N320 OAL: 1.142" Mixed brass Fed GM100M primers. Didn't have the Chrono with me but will do more research as I really like this load!

Looking for a good gunsmith to rebuild a 1911

'fish: Have to say THANK YOU for sharing your experiences with the MBF funnel; and selling me your extra 9mm funnel. Gave me the option of setting up the XL650, in a different way, to produce the easiest seating and most consistent coated bullet ammo ever. Getting the same results with the MBF .45acp funnel and coated bullets. Best Regards, HR

Have tested several loads in the G17G4 using Zero 147g JHPs and N320 with OAL's of 1.120" to 1.140"; and not experienced any problems whatsoever. 3.6g @ 1.140 yielded consistent 133.92 PF with ES=16 and SD=5. The G34 should show slightly higher fps. Don't think your 3.4g @ 1.142 would be a compressed load.....

Build4u: Here's a crappy phone pic that I hope will help show the difference in the Dillon funnel (on left) and the DAA funnel (on right): As you can see, the Dillon unit simply "bells" the mouth of the case to whatever width desired. Works fine for FMJ/JHP bullets! But with normally oversized lead/coated bullets, the DAA funnel that "expands" the case with little to no "bell" simply prepares the case for a easy, straight in insertion of the bullet. IMO, it makes for a very stable round prior to raising the case/platform into the seating die. Less expansion of the case mouth while virtually eliminating any scraping/damage to the bullet and/or coating. Again, as depicted in the pics above, this combination speeds up the process for me! As always, YMMV.....

Installed the Wilson Combat BP Wide Lever on my Springer RO, and the fit/finish was excellent: http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Thumb-Safety-Wide-Lever-Bullet-Proof-Blue/productinfo/659B/ Going with a Kart barrel and a couple more upgrades; and seriously considering the new EGW ambi: http://www.egwguns.com/index.php?p=product&id=150 Heard this ambi is a true workhorse with excellent support for either side.

IMO, most accomplished smiths will recommend both versions of Jerry Kuhnhausen's excellent shop manuals: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/books-amp-videos/books/handgun-gunsmithing-books/jerry-kuhnhausen-the-colt-45-automatic-prod13805.aspx Available through several outlets.....

I have a Dillon XL650 and have a question
HOGRIDER replied to rde1911's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
I also use the Redding Micrometer seating and crimp dies. What the MBF funnel improved on "my" XL650 was the stabilization of the Bayou bullet prior to actually seating it. I can place the bullet IN the case mouth ready for a straight-in push by the seater with minimal expansion of the brass. -
N320 purchased last fall, tested in G17G4 w/ Bayou 147gr FP: Charge: 3.2g OAL: 1.120 PF: 128.33 Charge: 3.3g OAL: 1.135 PF: 129.21 HR

Ron: I usually don't have to do a lot of "cleaning" on my XL650 unless I've been depriming only, large quantities of fired brass. I use the stainless pin wet tumbling process for cleaning my brass, and I honestly believe that contributes to my press staying cleaner than normal. Also have the shell plate/indexing system adjusted so there is virtually little to no powder spillage during sessions. If so, then a quick blast of some canned air, and I'm ready to start another session.

rde: That post didn't get a lot of feedback/replies, but I'm always glad to help other loaders! I got turned onto the MBF/DAA funnels after seeing a post/video by razorfish: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=201001&p=2279190 He offered his experience and recommendation of the funnels; and they proved to be an excellent upgrade on my machine.

Did not have to change powder bar settings; but you will need to readjust the powder die to lower the powder measure "assembly" as the DAA funnel is a tad shorter than the Dillon funnel. Refer to section E. Station 2 – Adjustment of Powder Die & Powder Funnel in the owners manual.

This is an option I chose that has eliminated any scraping/damage issues I've encountered on the XL650: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=205711 Highly recommend the MBR funnel! -
