    Glock 34 mods

I run the 3.5 ghost rocket connector and the overtravel grub screw in the ejector housing, the pre travel is removed by adding material behind the trigger on the trigger bar. Doesn't do a whole lot shot to shot, But it's nice to not have extra slack to take out. Overall, For a stock 34 gen 3 I would just throw some sights on it and run that till you got used to that. If your running downloaded ammo run the 13 lb spring and get the tru grips. Gen 4 doesn't need the tru grip as much. Just for fun I got another G34 gen 3. Going to shoot it bone stock except for the 13 lb spring (with my production hand loads the stock pistol won't cycle properly. I mean, you could go crazy modifying the pistol but in the end there isn't much difference if you don't work on you first.
  2. Move the rear sight to the right to get the correct sight alignment.
  3. I have had 0 problems with my competition electronics pro chronograph. Although I hear chrony is made by them I hear a lot of not so great things about the chrony line.
  4. Useless if you don't list bullet weight, bullet type (rn, fmj, jhp), Bullet composition (Lead, jacketed, plated), Mfg, OAL, powder. (Can we standardize this on the forum? That would be nice) Brass (mixed or x head stamp) , primer, velocity, pf, accuracy, range, temp, DA, test method, crimp type and degree would be nice to have if known.
  5. USMC, not sure about rifle, but will .05 grains of powder produce a 40fps difference in rifle? It seems to take 0.20 - .40 grains of powder, in 9mm major, to move the velocity 40fps. No but the powder throws of my chargemaster can be off by up to about 0.1 and still read the same. (It rounds up or down to the tenth), So my charge weight could actually be anywhere from 43.15 to 42.96 and still read the same which a tenth grain can give you higher es/sd in the 40 range. I also know that my chronograph is accurate to about +/- 1.5-2fps. So when my scale doesn't register a difference in charge weight when the machine tries to stop trickling and 1-10 kernels fall into the pan I know that isn't helping long range performance. Foxbat- I am very aware of Met Cal. I am mainly looking for a "proofing scale". So similarly the evaluation of a given scale requires another scale or a standard right? That is essentially what I am doing. I didn't know of any non lab scales which had decent resolution/ consistency. I almost bought a Prometheus but I figured I would save the cash and get a new suppressor. Also keep in mind the charge mass varies based on humidity etc. Probably going with something from Denver instruments or similar anyhow. Dirty Rod - I am not really sure what the fps/ 0.1 grain is with my 6.5 but I am pretty sure that there aren't very many variables left to get the Standard Deviation and Extreme Spread down. I already neck turn, primer pocket uniform blah blah benchrest prepped cases. The last thing remaining is powered charges less than a tenth of a grain for that last little bit of SD (along with new krieger barrel).
  6. curiosity (without it there would be no pursuit of the answer)
  7. Both feed fine in glocks. Just keep the oal shorter than max sammi. There seems to be a bit of a debate between 147 and 160 atm. The 160 seems to have less felt recoil but more sluggish than the 147's. But I just ordered 1000 147 rn from donnie this am. They smell a little on the bad side (best comparison was burning electrical tape) but if your not sensitive to smell your going to be dialed for the price. Tite group and n320 work well. Titegroup is a bit more dirty. Start around 1.120-1.135 oal (my glocks seem to get more accurate with the shorter OAL which is the opposite of what I expected.) Used in glock 17/ 34
  8. In oregon you can shoot a match every month. You can stay pretty busy between the three gun matches and uspsa matches every month. Albany Rifle Pistol Club, Tri County Gun Club (my club affiliation), Dundee and a couple others.
  9. Only classes I have followed is open and L10. I would say jj in open and mr butler in L 10
  10. Bummer, I was going to check this shotgun out but they said it wouldn't be released till june 1, so I got an FN SLP. Could have gotten two of these for that price lol.
  11. 0.05 grain resolution is more than enough. Thanks roberts. no- they actually are with precision rifle. Pistols etc aren't that sensitive, but when your shooting at targets 1200+ meters away 40 fps difference between two rounds at 1000 meters means the slower bullet will strike 16 2/3 inches lower than the faster shot. So yes, it actually does make a difference. For reference a lot of precision rifle matches your presented with Moa targets. And at 1000 yards the target could be 10 inches to represent 1 Moa. So in a game of hit or miss. Having High ES/ SD is not very beneficial to making good hits in a comp. When I have scopes/ rifle combos that are in the 4-5k range in price, what is the sense in loading ammo that doesn't match the performance of the platform your using.
  12. I shoot minor because I am a bad ass... lol. Forces me to make sure I get the 2 alpha on every target.
  13. I have rcbs chargemaster and dillon 650. I am looking for a double digit decimal precision reloading scale. Any suggestions? All of the ones I have seen from the regular mfg's are single decimal ie 35.0. I am building a new long range rifle and I would like to get the ES/SD down to benchrest numbers to limit the vertical spread at 1000 meters+. Which I can tell isn't happening with the scales and powder measure I have currently. It seems I can be a couple kernals off and still have the scales display the same tenth values. At the same time I don't really want to drop 1400 bucks on a Prometheus.
  14. Anyone actually know of a place that has some of these in stock? I emailed him last night and he said he was 2 months out. I need at least 200 to start load development... can anyone help? Thanks
  15. When I first started shooting production I used a box stock Glock 17 (I think I did the 25 cent trigger job before the first match).
  16. If your worried about doing this properly follow A for a while. Or B after you have practiced with a dummy round to get the hang of it. -Remove the magazine from the weapon. -Use your support/weak hand to pull the slide briskly to the rear. A -Watch the round eject from the chamber and fall on the ground. B -After you slingshot the slide catch the extracted round while maintaining muzzle discipline (Point the weapon down range and not anywhere near the RO. If you miss the round let it drop and after the range is clear pick up the cartridge and place it in the live ammo bin, don't bother reusing. Maybe I will make a video demonstration.
  17. Well Mike, I think you should be happy your in limited. Tac seems to get a little silly with optics lately. Short dot vs Leupold 1.1-6 etc. Keep in mind Marines qualify with M4's and M16's at 500. The weapons are capable of great things. When your on the long range stages use 68/69 grain rounds to help buck the wind a little better. But above all, practice! There are guys running box stock rifles smoking guys with 4k rifles. It's more about the shooter than the rifle really. Just know your gear. There is an old saying, fear the man with one rifle. Because if he has only one rifle and he shoots it often. He knows point of aim, point of impact for various ranges and wind conditions. I would suggest practicing positional shooting, shooting in wind, reading the wind, making wind calls (write it down), shoot (call the shot), and then check POI. The more you do this the more comfortable you will be with your platform. Not sure if your handgaurd is free floating, and maybe a jerry micklick PRI break (check the event rules) Triggers are nice and I could suggest some really nice ones but it would really depend on your budget. If the sky is the limit we can get some things going. But if your on a modest budget that changes things. My problem trying to play in tac optics is I am trying to find a scope like the Schmidt and Bender in a better price range. So far I am down to about $1200 for the nightforce 1-4 to go on my three gun rifle. Overall, I still am a firm believer in the idea that people should learn to shoot, and shoot well with iorn sights. At this point make sure what ever ammo you intend on using is the ammo you train with, and that it runs with 0 malfunctions in your rifle.
  18. So I would suggest getting the SPS tactical. Most shoot 1/2-3/4 moa with a good shooter behind them. The biggest problem at first is stock fit. I have yet to meet someone that actually fits that stock properly. Which puts you into a custom McMillan, HS, Manners stock with adjustable LOP and cheek. I had a 5 r milspec but it really wasn't worth the grand I put down for it (crap stock). Depending on your shooting it might take you a while to master precision rifle, at least to where your being held back by the rifle. Get a stock that fits/ adjustable, then when you shoot the barrel out have it rebarreled with your choice of chambering. My personal fav is 6.5x 47 but the brass is pretty spendy, great shooting rifle however. But I would say stick with 308, it's legal in almost all the competition classes like F class and the brass is plentiful. From NATO 7.62 x51 to lapua 308 win brass you have the whole range. *I like Silver State Armory for my match ammo lately, almost as good as lapua but half the cost* If you want you can get a single stage reloading press and make your own ammo which will save you bucks and allow you to tailor ammo to your rifle. If you can score a bare action for cheap (not likely since the demand is so much higher than the supply), but if you can you could build a pretty sweet rifle with it. But expect to be in the $2000 range when your done with buying action, stock, and rebarreled / trued action. I have a machinist that builds my match rifles and he is really good, and then there is always GA Precision. Wouldn't question the work, you just wait a long ass time unless you give them parts supplied build. I would suggest having them do a "trued barreled action" which tends to speed up the process (they true the stock action, install and crown the barrel) so it's ready to drop in your stock (AI, etc) and guys like GAP do 1/2 moa guarantee with those with match ammo. (estimate a barrel cost of 315 bucks, truing is about 300, cercoat, etc it's not cheap) But in reality learning to read wind, marage and getting the fundamentals down takes a fair amount of shooting. Keep in mind the X mark trigger can be adjusted to a crisp 2.5 lbs which will save you 200 bucks on a jewel trigger. Keep in mind that most practical rifle matches aren't won by hitting 1/4 moa targets, they are won by the guys that read the wind and estimate range the best, while knowing the rifle / cartridge they are using. IE knowing that at 500 yards with a 10mph cross wind they hold 3.5 mil high, and 1.2 mil right.
  19. Raven- I did that with my glock 17 about a year ago. I will have to dig up the data, I think baseline was 25 yards and 10 rounds. Stock was around 2.0, the barsto was closer to 1.3 or so. I never dialed in the load but the problem was I didn't JUST do the barrel swap, it was fitted barrel swap, and slide tightening and trigger mods so it wasn't a straight up comparison.
  20. My old school combo is Hoppes #9 with nylon brushes, and sweets 7.62. Newer kinder gentler cleaning is M pro 7 gel on a nylon brush. Don't forget your coated rods and bore guides!
  21. Other than the old school method of Hg, I would use plastic media blasting. I can say the dillon lube is magic stuff.
  22. Regardless of loads used there is minimal radius on the machining causing stress risers if the barrel is made out of one piece.
  23. I have been rocking a pretty consistent combo in my glock 34/17 for production. The biggest difference I have found is in the striker spring. The same thing that makes the trigger feel notably better also allows light strikes on primers if you use the 4lb striker spring. The stock spring iirc is 5.5lbs. Before I got my dillon 650 I was using winchester white box with decent results. I would suggest this combo for better performance. -25 cent trigger job -4.5-5.0 lb striker spring (IMO 4.0 is to light unless your using only federal small pistol primers which I don't always have access to which is why I switched to the 5.0 spring) -Stock trigger spring -Light weight safety plunger spring -13 lb recoil spring -3.5 lb ghost rocket connector I got 1 light strike with WWB with 4.0 striker spring, but it was enough to make me go up to 4.5. Additionally a titanium striker reduces lock time and improved ignition consistency (0 light strikes since)
