Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for putting this together. I joined here a while back and have unfortunately been out of shooting sports for a while but planning on getting back on the horse soon. Was good reading over this stuff.
  2. This has been the biggest issue with me. As a new shooter in USPSA, I wanted to run and gun and go all out. After a few matches I was shooting way below norm for me and things weren't coming together. I spoke with a few of the more experienced guys at a shoot and they were all on the same page, train slowly, and do it right. I stepped back and learned to run the gun smoothly and effortlessly instead of tromping around like a rhino on the stage, smooth is fast. It's made a world of difference for me, and I'm only skimming the surface.
  3. My father in law actually bought them. He orders from Sportmans Guide at least once a month and had a free shipping coupon for orders over $100 that was about to expire. I have 10 factory magazines, had been curious about the Korean ones though, and they had a sell on those 3/$30 so figured why not. I got 3 magazines, he got free shipping on his ammo and gun pouches. Plus I figured doing reload drills in the garage, I can just drop the KCI mags on the floor, even though carpeted, at times if I'm moving while reloading I'll miss the carpet. If one hits the concrete, it's a cheap mag, no harm done.
  4. Very nice responses. Thanks a ton. I just wanted to more confirm what I thought, Glock mags run regardless, within reasonable limits that is. I bought a few KCI magazines, 2 wouldn't drop free, sanded them down, replaced internals with Glock internals and they seem good to go. Figured they'd at least turn in to range magazines, and I'll only use one as my 4 magazine in matches, on a need to use basis. I like the idea of using silicone to wipe them down with, at least it makes sense.
  5. If I was shooting nationals or something I could see maybe tearing them down each stage, but especially since I just started competitions I don't see the reason for me to do that. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk
  6. That's pretty much what I thought. They're not sensitive hi cap 1911 mags. I had no problems the last match with just beating them against my leg or palm. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk
  7. I figured I'd post this in the glock section for a more centralized response. What's everyone using to clean their mags? Or do you even worry about it. Last uspsa match was in loose dirt, magazines had a little dirt kicked up when dropped. I'd just beat them while empty and knock any loose dirt out then load up. 8. I had some issues with the CR Speed versa pouches moving too, I just zip tied them in to place. I plan on adding the set screw to the bottom in the future so I can screw it down in to the belt to keep it from moving. I haven't noticed them moving at all unless I did it intentionally, so I just zip tied them in case.
  9. Sweet thanks for the info! Now I just need to remember to think about this when I am at home to measure. I emailed shooters connection and this was the response I got, cut/burn the ends to fit. I ordered a 54 inch belt, and I'm down to a 50 inch belt now and haven't had any issues. I did take the belt to a shop to get re-sewed as a few spots were it looked like the stitching was coming off.
  10. This is what i would do if i am a rookie. Why re-invent the when you can go with the flow created by the more experienced guys? I do this too sadly. After reading the post below yours, it's yet another thing to throw in to the barrel of things to work on. Not following GM's course of fire, because chances are, he's got me beat 99 to 1 and I've gotta play to my strengths and weaknesses on the stage.
  11. As a new shooter, I think the thing that gets to me most is my excitement to shoot the stage. All motor fuctions, mind to muscle communications are cut off, and I just run and gun as fast as I can. Prime example, last weeks classifier, I blew through it, great cadence of shots, good speed, boom...3 mikes, 1 bravo, the rest alphas. But the 3 mikes made me go negative for that classifier and totally screwed me up. I think in time, as a new shooter, I'll grow more calm and be able to actually process things through the stages, hopefully. This last match, after the classifier, a GM was ROing the stages, and was reminding me as I went through the stage to relax, slow down, etc. It really helped a ton. Just remembering to relax, slow down a bit and make good, quality A hits through out the match.
  12. I'm curious on prices for reloaded ammo online and a reputable company that's served some folks well. Eventually I plan on reloading anyway. Will be 9mm out of a glock 19 and 17. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk
  13. This really came in to play for me today at our local match. I rushed everything, tried to push myself time wise and ended up choking on the classifier instead of taking my time, getting good solid alpha/bravo hits, I ended up with alpha/mikes. Sad sad day. At least I didn't DQ, haha. had a good time in my second USPSA match.
  14. I completely choked on our classifier today. My first actual match as a USPSA member, did horrible. Ended up with 3 mikes, hung my head in shame. Did get some group time in with GM Scott Stockton afterwards giving us newer guys some tips on grip and draw and he was constantly giving me pointers throughout the match, really a stand up guy. The 28th, I guess we'll see how that goes.
  15. Really glad I stumbled across this. Only 1 match under my belt so far, I got excited and started trying to run the course quickly.
