  1. Hmm. Definitely some food for thought. Sarge, you mentioned the photo red lenses. How does that effect how you pick up the red FO? Butterpuc, you bring up a good point about the selection of lenses for the Rydon frame. Maybe I should think about a frame with more options.
  2. Theoretically if you could find the parts you needed, used, you might be able to get in under 1k. But unless you can manage all of the labor yourself, it's still goin to cost you 1k in labor for a quality smith to assemble it. And that may not include a finish.
  3. I was looking at the KARBONEYE WHITE CARBON WITH IMPACTX PHOTOCHROMIC CLEAR LENSES. I shoot mostly indoor but there are a few outdoor shoots I compete in as well. For that reason I wanted to go with the Photochromic clear lenses.
  4. So, if you were to remove weight from the frame it would be legal for ESP/CDP only. Right? Kind of like make your 1911 make weight. I'm not familiar with anyone removing weight from the frame of their 1911 to make weight. Some might opt for an aluminum magwell/MSH to save weight and be legal.
  5. Looking to invest in an Rx pair. Anyone use a pair for everyday wear as well as shooting? Also seen some VIP codes posted in the past. Are these still valid?
  6. Clays is a very fast burning powder. So a little goes a long ways. But if you're looking to make Major PF, it's going to be a no go. It also depends on where you live. Since it is a temperature sensitive powder, it may sabotage you on the chrony at a Majors on a cold day. I love it for minor loads in 9mm, .45 and .40. Nice and fluffy so It's easier to spot a possible double charge when reloading.
  7. That would be illegal. 1) that would no longer allow for SSP since you modified a permenant part of the gun 2) slide lightening is illegal for ESP and CDP. You are permitted some slide work, but they would be on the exterior and considered aesthitics. The rulebook has more details.
  8. It would appear that If you move one foot you're ok. You don't move your pivot (second) foot so you haven't advanced in any way. Move both feet and you'll see that finger rise in your peripheral. I've never participated in any shooting sport until a 6 months ago. I'm lucky to get 2 matches in a month and I'm still unclassified for ESP. For those reasons, I'll usually keep my mouth shut at matches and try to absorb what I can from more experienced shooters. I still make a lot of mistakes due to brain farts but chalk it up to inexperience under pressure.
  9. I missed the 1st attempt of my FedEx driver to drop off some powder last week. That was on a Friday at about 11am. The following monday, he stopped by at 7pm. When I signed for the package, he explained to me that he intentionally made me the last stop on his route to help ensure that I could sign for it. That's pretty awesome in my book. Will have a gift card for him come Xmas time.
  10. "The shooter may pivot on one foot or move the torso, as long as the pivot foot does not lift or slide." That seems pretty clear to me that you can move 1 foot, but the other must stay put. However, as usually happens when you try to eradicate the idea of 'freestyle', interpretations may vary by tribe. Thanks Moto. Maybe my club needs to revise how they're enforcing this rule. 3 weeks ago while reloading, I took a step forward with my right foot w/o my left foot ever moving. Caught myself, stepped back with the right, ate a PE, finished the reload, cursed a few words, finished the CoF.
  11. I'd recommend Bayou Bullets. All the benefits of shooting lead minus the smoke and lead particles in the air.
  12. Definitely this. Clays is awesome. You can also use ClayDot .. identical results. Good to hear. Just picked up some ClayDot a week ago. Also picked up a few pounds of Ramshot Comp'. Anyone with experience care to comment how it compares to Clays? Specifically in 9mm minor.
  13. Both feet stay put. Simple as that. Doing anymore than that may result in a PE.
  14. Been using Clays for 9 minor loads. Also fun for .45. Very soft and very clean. Just a pain to get anymore right now.
  15. As a newer shooter that is still currently unclassified, I'm always eager to hear constructive feedback from the more seasoned shooters. Especially any observations on safer gun handling. Although as I progress up through the standings week after week, I find I'm getting a lot less coaching. Lol
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you cannot gain more than 1 PE per shooting position.
  17. So I loaded 2 batches of 147gr while I decide what to do with the 150s. Using Lyman's suggestion of 1.058 resulted in feed issues just as you had experienced. There was also a significant bulge caused by the bullet being seated so deeply. 3:4 wouldn't even pass the case gauge. Pulling back to 1.1 OAL still passes the plunk test and now 9:10 will also pass the case gauge. Initially I tested the 147s at 1.05 OAL with 4.5gr - 4.7gr of HS-6. Far too snappy for IDPA. Will be going with 2.8gr of Clays at 1.1 OAL next. Thanks for the tips guys.
  18. Gans Guns IDPA 9mm. Rich at Canyon Creek put some touches on it.
  19. Admittedly I'm an accuwedge fan. Took the slop out if 2 ARs with zero issues in over 10 years of use. There are a number of things that can malfunction in an AR. An accuwedge won't be one of them. Use with confidence.
  20. Try lowering your spring rate first. Unless you're running a commander Spartan, 14# is just too much. You should experience little if any nose dive with an 8-9# and still cycle properly with a 9mm minor load.
  21. Good to hear. Just got my sample packets in today. Hoping to have some loads worked up by next weekend's match. I appreciate you guys chiming in. Not a lot of information out there for this round for use in 9mm. Rather be safe than gunless.
  22. Thanks Dr. Phill. Yeah, normally it would headspace on the case mouth. My experience with LSWC has shown that I have to load shorter than with RN or FN because the shoulder on the bullet itself will engage the rifling. Resulting of course in misfeeds. That would put more bullet below the case mouth than the 147gr and increasing pressures. Thanks for the feedback on the feel from the 147s.
  23. Looking to try something a bit out of the box and hoping someone could chime in with some expertise. So I'm looking to load a 150gr LSWC. This is probably developed for .38 super or .38 spl. but I'm looking to use it for IDPA in my 9mm. This will be shot out of a 5" ramped barrel. Hoping that the larger bullet will provide more of a softer push in recoil and leave a cleaner cut on paper. Powders I have to experiment with: HS-6 AA#7 Clays Ramshot Competition Also picked up some 135gr RN and 146gr FP sample packs from Bayou Bullets. With it headspacing on the shoulder, I'm not comfortable using 147gr FP as a starting point because of how much more bullet is below the case mouth. 147gr 150gr
  24. 13# sounds rather stiff. Try going with at 9#.
