  1. The parts alone will run you roughly $1200. Unless your experienced in building 1911s, I'd advice against doing this yourself. If you are mechanically inclined and have all the tools needed for the job, then have at it. Otherwise you'll pony up atleast another $1k for someone to build it for you.
  2. 1 14406 Dillon 9mm Carbide 3-Die Set(@ $ 63.95 ea.) $63.95 Ordered 3/18 5 13574 40/10mm/45 ACP 100rd Ammo Box - ea(@ $ 2.65 ea.) $13.25 1 17950 Roller Handle - Aluminum - 550/650(@ $ 45.95 ea.) $45.95 1 20062 Powder Bar - Small (Standard for Pistol)(@ $ 21.45 ea.) $21.45 Ordered 3/25 Both orders through BE. Hoping to get the dies soon.
  3. This should give you an idea of what you'll be enjoying. This shot was taken indoors under florescent lighting, so illumination isn't at max potential.
  4. +1 I use the Micro dot on an IDPA build. World of difference when you run and gun. I found it a great compromise between the glowing bulb of the Dawson and a plain black blade. Helps me get on target quicker but still allows for a crisp front sight when taking my time.
  5. Definitely a luxury, but man are they sweet to use!

    Gans Guns

Was checking to see if Gary was taking work again and saw this on his site: Retired from building custom 1911 pistol. I am no longer building guns. Don't know if this is long term or for the time being, but I feel fortunate enough to have had Gary build me a pistol just before he stopped taking work.
  7. Do you currently reload? I found that my 2011 was able to reliably load the same ammo my single stack was using. If you already have some 9mm ammo laying around, use that go break in your gun. You may encounter FTFs during your break in. This may not be ammo related so don't pass judgement until you've fully broken in your new gun.
  8. Standard frame Wide frame Only real difference between the SDC types would be your preference in aesthetics.
  9. so is one of the mags on your belt not loaded to 10 rounds? I would also look at why the magazine is falling out. check out kytex gear, $15 a pouch and the mag isn't going anywhere. YES IT ONLY HAS 9 RNDS,DONT MISS YOU WONT REALLY NEED THE LAST MAG UNLESS SOMTHING GOES REALLYWRONG IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN,TRY TO CLEAR YOUR JAMS WITHOUT DROPPING YOUR MAG. You do know that's not legal right? I'm really nitpicking, but the mags have to be loaded to capacity or division limit. If you need to "barney", do it like the original Barney and pull an extra bullet out of your pocket, and stuff it into the mag after gassing up your heater. I thought the Barney mags came about for CDP shooters with 8 round mags. Since you couldn't squeeze a 9th round into the mag, you used a Barney or reloaded an extra round after the "load and make ready" command. I load my 1st mag to 11 rounds in ESP. The mags on my waist are loaded to division capacity of 10. My SO even asked to be sure I was loading to 11 on my 1st mag. Is this not legal? With everything else I get nickel and dimed for, I figure they would have put the slap down on me for an illegally loaded mag.
  10. Observing other shooters over the weekend where I competed, a good 75% had fishing vests for cover garment and about 50% of the crowd were wearing jeans. I wouldn't mind wearing my jeans so much if it weren't for the wear and tear. I good chunk of the shooters I compete with are 50+ in age. Most have a tough time picking up the brass so while they tape, I shag the brass. And as can be expected, those older guys like their .45s and enjoy getting back as much of their brass as possible. That brass is damn near gold these days!
  11. I'd look into the reason as to why the mag keeps dropping. Shooting ESP I haven't had to use the 3rd mag. Shooting CDP, using the 3rd mag is common. Be that as it may, it's always good to keep the 3rd in case of malfunctions.
  12. Yup, mine came out to about $1k as well. Price starts to climb depending on what kind of slide work you want done. The more high tech finishes can also cost you a sizable chunk of your budget.
  13. My 1st shoot was with a pair of jeans and a light cloth jacket. I don't get to shoot often enough to be competitive so I shoot for the fun of it. Recently I have upgraded to a pair of 5.11 pants to help stow mags or props. The jacket I was using would be a tad warm for summer months so I got a large moisture resistant button up shirt from Colombia. It's something that would be appropriate to wear on a day to day basis as oppose to a fishing vest.
  14. I had the same issue with the follower on 1 of the 4 mags I recently got. Did a limited test session but found no fault with the mag other than a difficult 1st round loading.
  15. Grats on the gun, it looks really good! Who did the grip work?
  16. That's a pretty popular slide treatment. Not sure how much weight gets shaved off, but I see a lot of Eagles getting it done.
  17. +1 If it's good enough to keep my AR running while using cheap Russian ammo during mag dumps, it can handle my anything my 1911/2011 can dish out!
  18. I run 115gr LSWC over 3.2gr of clays as my plink load. Shoots straight and burns clean.
  19. The only FTF issues I've had we're due to primers not being seated deep enough. Pressed up against the breech face enough to prevent slide lock.
  20. The heavier spring may help, but you'll probably pay for it with excessive muzzle dip in return. Lightening the slide would be a no-go. As stated, this is an IDPA build. The lighter bullet with a hotter charge might be the trade off your looking for.
  21. Classic cut naked slide was used.
  22. Yup, that's my wide frame SDC. Unless you already have a limited build with a LDC that you're willing to have cut down, I'd suggest just ordering a Wide frame SDC. I got mine from Brazos.
  23. As far as mags go, place an order and wait your turn. Everyone's out of stock but sending out orders as quickly as they get them. Brazos, Shooters Connection, Dawson and Oakhill are a few places you can to get in line with. Best of luck!
  24. Took custody this morning. The feel is incredible. Not to knock factory STIs, but a custom build by an experienced pistolsmith is something else. Everything feels to tight and crisp. There is absolutely zero play on this gun. From the barrel bushing, slide stop, trigger and grip safety, the fit and finish is incredible. Can't wait to compete with it next week down in Austin. It's too bad that a gun build by a such pro has to be handled with the skills of such an amateur. If nothing else, I'll look good losing!
