  1. I shot lead for a long time here in the Desert SW but shot a match in the humid midwest and after about 5 shots the view was so obscured I had to struggle to see the targets. I switched to plated after that.
  2. I bought this one, sold the threaded barrel on ebay for $150, and there was a $75 rebate. $375. https://www.cdnnsports.com/smith-wesson-m-p9-9mm-pro-series-core-threaded.html#.WhOsmjNMGEc It is the shorter barrel but it is “Carry Optics” so a small gun is the theoretical concept. It is plenty accurate. I added the Apex sear and extractor, Glock captured guide rod and 13# spring.. The trigger is a pound lighter, fairly crisp, short reset. It is a light gun. Remove the red dot, add the cover plate and shoot it in production. If you replace the ported barrel on the one you listed you are gtg.
  3. 1981, I pretty much did the same mods to make the gun more friendly. I milled the factory safety lever to a little more reasonable profile instead of replacing it. I added the Taylor Freelance Magwell also and the Dawson rear sight on one of them. I have a 9mm and a 40 which weigh within 1/2 oz of each other. The boat anchor weight of them really makes them soft shooting. The 9mm is has silly light perceived recoil, the 40 slightly more. I prefer a heavy gun personally. I also feel no guilt “gunsmithing” on it.
  4. Harnessing the jitters is why I like competitive shooting. Going back to the first few posts, in the Fight response, adrenalin frees stored sugar for maximum energy. Sugar cubes or food will just lengthen the free sugar available but the very nature of the response makes it redundant. “Bonking” is more likely in a match if you do not maintain sugar or fluid levels. Fast sugar is a poor choice. Energy bars and Gatorade are more appropriate. I am still struggling to be a “good” shooter but the best stages I have had was embracing the calm and finding the sight. Now repeating that for all of the stages eludes me.

  6. For the budget Benelli look at the Stoeger 3020 compact.
  7. The SBR scorpion is a great toy but I do believe the AR9 is probably the better platform for competition.

    CZ CO Choices

I vote CZ custom multi optic plate system. The SP01 has the extra weight and no firing pin block so the consensus is better trigger and recoil mgt. Of course a short dust cover is very capable and a good choice too.
  9. Taylor Freelance makes 170mm extensions for the M&P. http://taylorfreelance.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11
  10. No, the 1911-a2 mags that Remington lists. Palmetto is selling the RP9 mags for $15.
  11. There is an 18 round mag for $30-40. I am thinking of buying one to test the theory.
  12. There is a real advantage to having multiple RDS options plus the rear sight plate. I milled a second slide but in retrospect would mill the original.
  13. I just got my slide back from CZC. The pics are not as good as Stuart’s. I had it finished in Tungsten for fun. Front sight filler. Depth to plate from slide rib. Plate installed. I did have to shorten the extractor pin. Plate/slide fit. Gap does not bother me. RDS from muzzle.
  14. The mags are surely the weak point. The vintage Para mags are about $50 each on GB, now the Dawson basepads are scarce also. I had squirreled away enough to keep my head above water. Remington is producing a high cap 9mm 1911 presently but other that the RP9 mags, I have not seen new production mags to test. https://www.remington.com/shop/1911-18-9-Magazine%2C-Steel%2C-9mm%2C-Tactical-Base/p/17795
  15. I would have to say not allowed in USPSA.
  16. Moto, They were not shooting... I just googled an image but this snap came up... Not to belittle this Gent.
  17. The guy most likely to chop his finger off on a table saw is the Master Woodworker, or a chainsaw wound by the Tree Surgeon. It can happen to any of us... I have seen the USPSA magazine with a pic of one of the top shooters in the nation with their finger in the trigger guard while moving. Speedy recovery...
  18. I have a Glock with a sight block. I think it makes a difference but like anything in this game, your results may vary.
  19. I have induced the salt shaker by seating the bullets down by rapping the mag base on my palm, sort of like the AR mag tap. I stopped messing with the bullet seating once the mag is loaded.
  20. One way would be to take the grips off, and apply skate tape.
