  1. 2.6 gr of Clays imder the Lyman 356637 gave me 858 fps in my 85 Combat. Accuracy was VG. Hope that helps. Take Care Bob
  2. What diameter are the bullets? I cast my own and size them .357. I used to cast them .356 but ran into tumbling problems like you are getting, At the time I was running a Shadow and M&P FS. I would suggest the 124 gr bullet if you can get them. You will get a bit more felt recoil at the same PF but accuracy should improve. Take Care Bob
  3. Love it Ted. In the top ten replies on any gun forum I have read. Take Care Bob
  4. It should reduce pressure, by how much...who knows. In playing with OAL of loads I have not noticed any meaningful reduction in velocity or more importantly practical accuracy in the handguns I use, Not a very scientific answer but the best I can offer. Take Care Bob
  5. Looking at the Hogdon online manual I would suggest Clays would not be your best bet. You are going to be at their maximum loading of 3.7 gr just to make bare minimum PF if you are talking 9MM using a 125 gr bullet. There are better powders to use Titegroup for plated/jacketed and 231/Unique for lead come to mind. I use Clays for my revolver loads using 160 gr lead RN bullets to make power factor for revolver division with good results.3.7 gr grains gives me room on power factor and is clean burning. I use a 4.2" GP-100 and a 105.14 MM 686 Smith. Take Care Bob
  6. Have you got hold of Donnie Miculuk yet? He probably is the best person to solve your problem. Take Care Bob
  7. If this is the HiTec coating I suspect the alloy used for the bullets is just not hard enough to withstand the pressures of your cartridge. I would send them bac and ask for my money back. I have been trying to get the coating to work in 9MM with no success. I get significant leading in the last two inches of the barrel. Is most of the leading located near the muzzle? Take Care Bob
  8. For 9MM you want a 1 - 10 twist barrel. S&W initially went with a 1 - 18 twist in their M&P and have since moved to a 1 - 10 twist, CZ also rubs 1 - 10 twist barrels as does Glock and Tanfoglio. My M&P with a 1 - 18 twist struggled to stabilize my 147 gr cast bullets. Since making the change no problems have been experienced. 1 - 24 seems pretty slow to me. Take Care Bob
  9. 4.4 gr of Clays gave me a 10 shot avg of 173 with a high of 180 and a low of 168 using a Norinco 5" 1911. Temp was 21C or 70F over a F1 Chrony Take Care Bob
  10. They make the 686 with a 4.2" barrel; so why they decided to go 4.25" is beyond comprehension other than they wanted to protect their 686 sales. I have a 686 no dash 4" 686 with a barrel length of 10517MM ir just over 4" and legal in Canada. There are a lot of the "4 inch" Smiths with legal 105MM+ barrel lengths up here that have been reclassified. I use my Ruger GP-100 in SSR with the 686 as back-up. I think the Ruger has a smoother trigger. I did have the cylinder throats reamed out to .358 to accommodate lead bullets. Take Care Bob
  11. I size all my cast boolits in 9MM .357. I have for years. No leading and great accuracy in a variety of 9MM guns. I would go .357 with the 9MM and I would not be surprised if you find accuracy improves. Take Care Bob
  12. Silhouette is a little slower than HS 6 according to my burn rate chart. That being the case I would look for load data closer to HS 6 as a guideline along with Win Auto Comp. Start at suggested minimum loads and work up until you find a load that works. The 9MM case is relatively small so you likely will run out of room before you start seeing pressure signs. Just go slow. Take Care Bob
  13. Way to logical. It would not require any new rules other than for Match Administration. Most of our members only shoot Club matches so why not just leave well enough alone but then the egg is already broken, so lets see what the cook serves up. It maybe an omelette or a fried egg. More likely a horse looking remarkably like a one humped Camel. Either way a hump is involved.
  14. They might delay the recoil but physics is physics. What Newton said is a law not a theory. Bob
  15. Other than the fact that virtually every IPSC match I go to there is ALWAYS a 1911 jamming up due to ammo, lack of lubrication, and/or lack of cleaning. They are all double stack 1911's and two of our shooters use the 2011. I know the 1911 design has been around for 100+ years and it served the US Army for years and on and on but if it were me and I had a good chance I had to rely on a handgun to defend myself in a gun fight using the .45acp cartridge it would be a SIG 220 Elite. I own STI's,CZ's.Tanfoglios, Smith & Wessons and a couple of custom 1911's for playing the games of IDPA and IPSC bit no SIGS. If I had to have a handgun chambered in 45acp to defend myself with from 2 legged assailants it would be the SIG 220 hands down. I believe it is or was the choice of the Texas Rangers. Things have moved on since 1911. If you can shoot a 1911 you can shoot a SIG 220. Take Care Bob
  16. What was his load? If he loads the rounds down to much the bullets will tumble, or at least I have experienced the tumbling with 147 gr lead bullets in some of my 9MM guns. Take Care Bob
  17. Some folks need to take a few grow up pills. Either we play by the rules or we don't. The OP knows what he has to do to stay legal in SSP so leave it at that. One reply actually laid it out pretty clearly - the poster used the term bluntl. One of the posters states at his club 1911's shoot in SSP. Why not? Who Cares? Where is the harm? Is everyone still having fun? Well if you are not shooting IDPA then it doesn't really matter. Unfortunately the club and it's members think they are and it does matter. Why bother with a rule book anyway. Was it this forum where one member wondered what mods he had to do to his GP - 100 in order to make it fit in the box? His club insisted it had to in order to be legal, and he just knew it would not fit if he left in stock form..... The OP has a mindset that says he wants to do what is right. Refreshing really. My bet sandpaper never gets near his mag release. Take Care Bob
  18. Yeah, why don't we do that?: "Cleated shoes designed for specific sports (i.e., football, baseball, golf, etc.) may not be worn" Do I need to point out that it mentions NOTHING about "competition" shoes? It only refers to CLEATED shoes. The shoes being discussed here have nothing in common with cleats designed for specific sports. If they do, then a pair of hikers are illegal too. Quit making shit up, please Have you seen some of the rubber cleats on some of the trail shoes. Nobody is making anything up. What do you think "Cleated" Shoes are? The rule is poor;y written. If you care to look you will find football cleated shoes designed for artificial turf not much different from any number of hiking shoes. Try to keep your potty mouth comments to yourself you write like a spoiled two year old. or one who hasn't gone to school long. You did say please though so your mommy got something through to you. Take Care Bob
  19. Orienteering is a sport, so does that mean that any hiking shoe that could be worn in orienteering competition is illegal in IDPA? Maybe IDPA should try ruling on what is legal footwear, and we can all shop from an approved list of shoes...... Would we need five lists, one for each Division eg White laces in SSP, Blue laces allowed in ESP Division IF they have white flecks intwined in the lace otherwise Blue only allowed in CDP Division..... What does the current rule book say about competition shoes and go from there? Bob
  20. If you are shooting ESP why would you start the gun hammer down and safety off unless the Stage description said you had to start hammer down in which case as others have noted the safety would not have to be engaged and in some guns could not be with the hammer in the down position in any event. It would make for interesting starts for guys shooting CDP with 1811's. Take care Bob
  21. If you go to CZ UB or CZ USA the weight of the gun is listed and it does make weight. You will want large hands to shoot the 97B comfortably. I have one and have debated about spending the money to improve the sights along with purchasing a holster, another mag holder and one more magazine. The gun will shoot with the best 1911's for accuracy, just a very big gun ....grip wise. I am curious to know why so many seem to think the gun has to be shot hammer down in ESP. Even the 2005 RB allowed for C&L shooting with DA/SA guns in ESP and CDP. The new rule book makes it clearer than the old book but still..... Take Care Bob.
  22. I have used both and much prefer the Jetloaders. You may or may not feel the same way. Welcome to revolver Division. The game sure plays differently with a revolver in hand. Good Luck Bob
  23. I thought Trail Running was a sport. No? One of those rules that....well never mind. Take Care Bob
  24. The 1911 platform in 40cal is the gun in IPSC Standard Division up here. Most use the 180 gr LSWC or the plated equivalent with no more issues than you normally get running a 1911. Take Care Bob
