  1. bad idea. most classifiers are dumb and boring, and some of them take 20-24 rounds anyway. how about just making real stages with slightly fewer rounds? As the new 2020 classifiers show, you can have a very interesting stage with just 12 rounds.
  2. or possible that people are saving their ammo for the big matches. or possible that people will just suck it up and pay 10 cents each for primers to shoot big matches. Primers are readily available if you want to pay 10 cents each. I don't (yet), but if I had to, it wouldn't really move the needle on the expense total for nationals or steel worlds.
  3. dang. If we know registration is light (like it was in the rain/snow/xmas the last 2 matches), we only put up 2 field stages and run them from 2 different start positions, plus 2 classifiers, so 30-40 paper targets at 70 cents or so each. we are too lazy to paint in the winter, but if we did paint it would be 1 can of paint at $4 for the good stuff. So I figure our fixed expenses are about $30. We had 13 people (and a mild blizzard during setup, but it stopped and was quite pleasant for the shooting) last weekend, and it was really fun. 7 out of the 13 are M or better in at least 1 division, so there was some heat too. I think if it was going to be fewer shooters than that, we'd probably just do an impromptu practice day. Set up one stage and run it, then move stuff around and run it again, then do that 2 more times. Only collect enough money to pay for the targets consumed (a buck or two per shooter), and have some fun. Of course we don't pay anything to use the range..... or maybe we pay *everything* to the range (except for the activity fees to uspsa)....
  4. we have had a number of guns in 9 and 40 that just hate plated bullets for some reason, and have accuracy and tumbling problems. the same loads run great in other guns.
  5. a longer barrel will require less powder, and the muzzle will rise less to reach the same pf. That's why I used the threaded barrel when I was shooting the xdm. You are somewhat correct tho because the shorter slide should be slightly lighter, so it will impart less force to the gun when it slams forward. Honestly 'flatness' seems like a dumb way to talk bout non-compensated guns. the important thing is whether the sights (or dot) return to the spot they left from, as opposed to dipping down below. grip, powder charge, bullet weight, recoil spring and timing, etc.... all play a role here. Sometimes a more powerful load that raises the muzzle *more* is just what is needed for the slide to come forward and drop the muzzle back into exactly the right spot. Sometimes what is needed is simply a subtle adjustment to your grip.
  6. we have some of each. Mrs moto thinks DA first shots are stupid, so I got her an x5 legion. it is convenient that the dpp mounts directly to the slide with no adapter plate needed. With the simple addition of a gray guns trigger kit, it is entirely competitive, with a 2.5 lb trigger pull. Not quite as short a pull and reset as a custom 2011, but pretty darned good for a crappy plastic gun. We both found the grip to be very natural, and the gun pointed well for me immediately. it just feels very similar to my 2011 in that respect. you might need to spring for an extended mag realease and/or paddle for the sig. Mrs moto needs one. I'm not sure if I would need one. I would probably run it stock for a few weeks and see if it was an issue. I was thinking about getting another sig for myself, but none were available a few weeks ago, and I was impatient and after shooting a nicer gun, I wanted to upgrade from free xdm CO gun. I don't mind practicing and I am very comfortable with DA first shot, so I got a shadow2, and an adapter plate for the dpp, and about $50 worth of springs. with the cgw trigger return spring, and 11 lb mainspring, and extended firing pin, it seems to light off any primers, and the DA pull is barely over 6 lbs, SA around 2.5. The cz didn't point quite as naturally when I first picked it up but after an hour or so of dryfire it does now. I suspect it is just not *quite* as similar as my 2011. I would feel totally comfortable competing with either gun, but the cz just feels a little nicer to handle, and is a bit more accurate for me, not that i can tell an accuracy difference when shooting uspsa stages.
  7. forgot to note in my post above that I got the idea from Hwansik Kim. It really helped speed up my shooting on horizontal partials, and improve my confidence and shotcalling on those targets.
  8. you might also consider working on your grip. with a dot you should be clearly seeing when that 2nd shot is low, and you can adjust your grip to keep that from happening. I find it's very valuable when switching guns (and even as a part of normal practice) to work on pairs in 3" circles at 7 yards. this is close enough that you should be able to see the holes in the target, and if you draw 3-4 circles on a single target, you can go through a full magazine before you have to stop and tape. This is very helpful to me for grip and shot-calling.
  9. Hmmm, so if people 'transition' to CO, that means CO shooters are trannies? makes sense to me..... sure it's faster to make corrections with a dot, but if you're not practicing enough for the gun to be naturally lined up when you transition, you're wasting time lining it up. true for dots and irons both.
  10. I just bring twice as much ammo as I could possibly need. It's not like it hurts me to carry it back into the house afterwards. I ran short at my very first match (IDPA match), and had to borrow some rounds. Have never come close again.
  11. Not that I really care, but if I were speculating, I'd speculate that maybe he wanted to shoot some other division or do some other thing that didn't fit into their plans.... Or maybe he wants to cut down his match schedule to focus on school..... wutever. He is a terrific young man, and will go far in life. And as far as I can tell infinity is a reputable and successful company that will continue to be successful. Everyone should be happy.
  12. Maybe that's why those f**-ers haven't sent me my ruger custom shop doug koenig model 1911 yet. *#$#%! They need to stop the drama and build my gun. (I won the certificate in a match back in july and sent it in immediately).
  13. unless there are harder leans, tight quarters, ports you have to go deep into, shooting while moving quickly, etc.... PCC's are disadvantaged in many situations besides just dating chicks.
  14. I think CO is here to stay, judging by the participation numbers. I'd be happy to have pcc confined to pcc-only matches. I think it is super-fun and interesting in that context. OTOH, I'm happy to have pcc in pistol matches too, because then I get to mock those lazy losers for getting beat by guys with iron sights (except max, I don't mock max, but only because he is a super hard worker and good guy).
  15. it's not about screwing anyone, it's bout making the stage challenging and interesting for everyone.
  16. I don't really care about the pcc results. I'm more annoyed by the changes we have to make to stage designs to accommodate them. Alot of things that are interesting choices for pistols become stupid stages for pcc, so I have to jump through hoops to make the stages interesting for everyone. for folks that do get butthurt about pcc results, either learn to shoot your pistol better, or design stages with more leans, wide transitions, ports you have to get deep into, shooting while moving quickly, etc.... Rifles are consistently slower and some stuff, and that is probably good stuff for rifle shooters to practice and be challenged by.
  17. we already have such a sport. It's called uspsa. If you look at the top competitors that focus on uspsa, they do very very well in these other sports when they compete, but the top competitors that focus on those other sports don't seem to be quite as successful as uspsa. (note that I'm only talking about actual action sports, not sporting clays, prs, nrl22, silhouette, etc...)
  18. I wouldn't bother changing my travel schedule to accommodate awards. If you're not at the top end of the field there'll be some gift certs worth $50 or so, and some merchandise worth a little less. Still might be worth having someone proxy for you tho. I'm not a big fan of ceremonies in general, however. I would urge you to stay around and watch some of the top shooters, however. See what order they shoot things in, how they prepare, basically how they shoot a big match. Last year was our first year and we learned quite a bit to help us prepare for this year.
  19. singlestack is cheaper, and lighter (which for me means faster and more precise transitions). I do also shoot my heavy-azz steel grip 2011 sometimes at steel, but only if I have a big uspsa match coming up so I don't want to muck with practicing 2 different guns. when I shoot the 2011 I had good results with just loading 10-11 rounds in every magazine to keep the weight down, but I've also loaded 15 and shot 2 strings per mag before changing. not sure there is a measurable difference.
  20. really? not around here. It happens once or twice a year that a pcc shooter wins the overall cuz all the good pistol shooters were out of town. On the original topic, I'm not really interested in shooting a race gun at idpa. But I had a gun time beating all the race guns last match with my EDC (p01, IWB holster).
  21. is that variations between lots? or variations between their results and published data? those are very different things. I don't pay much attention toe published data except as a starting point. I chrono my load until it is where I want it. is prima v or ba9.5 actually available anywhere? I thought they stopped importing it. I am running low on ba9.5 (which I use for 40), but the local grocery store had IMR red when I went to buy onions and cheese the other day, so I picked up several lbs of that for cheap.
  22. i put my coat on in between runs to reload magazines. sometimes I even sit in the car. I don't see any value in making any changes in my rig to try to stay warmer for a few minutes at a time.
  23. it takes like 2 repetitions to perfect it. it's not like it's hard or impressive or anything. Its just convenient.
  24. Still waiting for my first one of those too, even tho 90 percent of shooters flip and catch at the nationals I've worked.
