  1. That's $30. Cajungunworks firing pin spring is the same diameter and can be repurposed for the plunger spring. Its $5. That is good to know. I have some of those lying around.
  2. Well just because the round count is 32, some people often shoot more than the minimum If you have a mag where the top round has nosedived, it is much faster to go to the next mag. Mags get dirty and cleaning them between each stage is a pain. Magazine springs have a finite life. If you have more mags, it is easier to spread the load. The ideal situation for me is a minimum of 8 working mags per gun. Sometimes I like going to a match with all of the mags that I plan on using are already loaded so I don't have to load any magazines on game day.
  3. Nosediving. Is it nosediving on the first round of a full mag? Seems to be a chronic problem on 9mm single stack mags, even Mec Gars. Mine were 9 round mags and would always do it if inserted on a closed side, but would feed the top round OK if inserted on an open slide. The extra "smash" onto the round stack made it nosedive. On mine I put in some "+1" follower/spring sets to increase capacity to ten rounds and then they worked well as 9 round mags, but had the nose dive thing on the tenth round. The nosediving occurs even if you strip one or two rounds. This is a problem when loading to division capacity. I am sure it is a design issue due to being single stacked more than anything. Have you ever loaded any of these mags to 10 and then tried to strip a round out by hand? It is a pain. Honestly I don't see how this issue could be fixed without finding some way to keep the front all of the rounds pointing slightly upwards. The 9mm case being tapered does not help in the least bit. If it was straight (more like 38S, and 45 ACP), I doubt this discussion would be taking place. eta- I think the steep feed ramp on some of the 1911 patterns is partially to blame as well. Yes, the feedramp on the 9mm barrels is quite steep. However, if the bullets can't get stripped out of the mag while cycling to even make it that far, it is a moot point.

  5. Nosediving. If the Dawson mags are giving you problems with a built in feed ramp in the mag, I suspect there is something other than mags going on. Who made the gun? How many rounds? What is the OAL of the ammo you are running? Bullet profile? Springfield Loaded. Thousands. I have tried multiple profiles and various OAL's over the year. Loading longer helped but problems remained. I finally decided that ditching the metalfor/Dawson and Wilson mags would be the best course of action. A new mag is a cheap experiment. Could still be something else though. What power factor are you running? There are a lot of 9MM SS guns around here and most seem to run their ammo as long as will fit in a mag and close to 135 PF. I found my gun runs best with a 12lb recoil spring but 10-12 should work. I think keeping the slide speed up to strip the round from the mag quickly is the key. I had 4 of the Dawson/Metalform mags and 8 of the WIlson mags. When clean, they were at best, unreliable. Once dirty, they became totally unuseable. I typically load all of my 9mm from 130 to 145 PF. I use 10 or 12 lb recoil springs. The Springfield/Metalform 9 round mags work well 95% of the time so once I eliminated the 10 round Dawson/Wilson mags from my setup, my rig became somewhat reliable. This issue has driven me mad because I have had more issues with it than all of my other pistols put together x 3.
  6. That's right, the comp is at the end of the barrel.

  8. That is exactly what I meant. My trigger pull does feel mushy now. What is a better alternative to the pen spring?
  9. I typically only buy Federal primers. I buy Winchester if the Federals are out of stock.
  10. Now that I think of it, mechanical accuracy has never been a concern when I build my Shadows. I have only concentrated on ergonomics, sights, and the trigger/action of my CZ's.I was contemplating getting the Accu Shadow mods on my Single Action CZ's but the cost and lead time has prevented it thus far.
  11. That little sucker is small. Is there any advantage going with a lighter spring there?
  12. Luckily I scored a few pounds of Titegroup and Win 231 locally. However, I have not seen any Hogdon Clays or SOLO 1000 in years ...
  13. Somehow I doubt any factory ammo, under a PF of 140, will properly cycle your gun as long as the comps are installed. My Glock 19C was running 85 FPS less than my Glock 17 with the same load. If you remove your comps, then your recoil spring will probably be too heavy. The whole point of the comp is to have a flat shooting gun that feels like you are shooting .22LR while making major PF. If you are not making your own ammo or having someone make it for you, I don't see how this setup will serve your purpose well.
  14. I am getting close to calling it a day with my home brewed Shadows and I wanted to start making plans for my pair Witness Elite matches. I currently have one in .40 and one in .45. I was also lucky enough to pick up an Extended Slide in .40 and .45 as well. I also have a 9mm barrel on its way. My basic plan is to use these for ESP/CDP in IDPA but I would also like to use them for Limited Major. So I was wondering about the following. 1. New Trigger - The henning trigger looks interesting but I would prefer something more conventional. I like the stock trigger but I would like something wider, even if it means fitting the trigger. The Eric Graufel triggers look interesting but they appear to be out of stock at the Stoeger Shop. Could the CZ75 triggers be made to fit and work? I was looking at the older style 85 combat and the aluminum single action triggers since those are what I run on my Shadows. I did find out that the CGW trigger pin and reduced power trigger return spring fits like a glove. 2. Grips - It seems the only viable option are the Coppergun grips. I got a pair with one of my Canik's and it cracked while I was tightening the grip screw. I would like something more substantial, like aluminum that would fit like the stock grips. If there was something comparable to the stock CZ75 rubber grips, I would be happy with those as well. 3. Sights - It seems like the henning sight set is the only game in town. I was wondering if the POI is the same regardless of what caliber. I don't see that being the case on other platforms so I doubt it would be that easy. 4. Sear - It appears the only option is the EGW hard sear but it doesn't have the leg for the firing pin block. Since most of the competitions I participate in require the safeties to be in working order, is the stock one my only option? The CZ75 sear spring seems to work fine here. 5. Hammer - I noticed the hammer rides on a roll pin. Is there a solid pin replacement I can use here? I would like something similar to the CZ75 hammer pin that is secured by another pin setup. I can get the necessary machining done locally. 6. Guide Rod - Is the factory guide rod that bad? 7. Magazines - I am just looking to get to 20 reloadable. Is this possible with the recent versions of the K40 or K10? Does the Grams follower lock the slide back? 8. Trigger Bar - I replaced the spring with a pen spring but I don't see the advantage to this. I did polish up the trigger par and plunger but I did not seem to gain much from this. 9. Magwell - I see that the Canyon Creek Magwell is an option. I also saw that the grips will need to be trimmed to work. Is there a smaller option? 10. Thumb safety - I would like a different Left sided safety that sits at least 5mm lower than the stock one. Sorry about all of the questions but there doesn't seem to be much about upgrading the Elite Match Specifically.
  15. I second this. I haven't found another 147gr bullet that can achieve this OAL. But since the OP was inquiring about 124's, the Xtreme 124gr RN can be loaded very long as with the Bayou 124gr RN. The current version of the Bear Creek 147g Truncated noses has a shoulder so the profile is slightly slimmer. I have loaded out to 1.15 but I tend to stay at 1.13 because I like crimping right after the shoulder.
  16. Hello, I just saw these at Brownells and I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to try them out and review them. After wasting a ton of money on the Metalform/Dawsons and the Wilson Combat magazines, I was hoping to find something that works. I do plan on trying some Tripp Cobra 10 rounders sometime down the road but I can't seem to find them for a reasonable price. Any suggestions?
  17. Easy fix: use a CZ trigger and drill out the holes to fit; CZ uses 2.25mm pins and Tanfoglio uses 2.75mm pins. I wonder if anyone has pictures of an 85 combat trigger done up this way ...
  18. The CCI and Wolf/Tula small pistol primers have the equal amount of suck going on. I typically avoid both brands whenever possible. 2 of my buddies and I went through 100k of them during the great primer shortage years ago. I run the 13 lb CGW hammer spring with the extended firing pin and reduced firing pin spring on my Single Action CZ's and my firing pin hits harder than my 1911's. Tks for the info. I have had a hard time finding someone around here with just a "throat reamer". Am I correct that there are throat reamers and chamber reamers and neither seems very cheap to come buy, esp for just one type of gun/barrell I own. Why do you think CZ type guns are so short compared to other manf? I realize there can be some accuracy gains by having rifling closer vs farther from the projectile, but is that why CZ's seem short throated? I'll go with RN reliability for now until I can get the throat reamed. I believe the reamer and handle I bought from Manson reamers was about $62 shipped. If you want, you could mail me your slide and a few samples of your loads (without powder) and pay for return shipping and I will ream your barrel for you. I ream my CZ barrels to ensure feeding reliability. I have not noticed any reduction in accuracy or velocity from doing so. If you are using FMJ factory ammo, the stock barrel should work fine but I prefer using lead/bear creek bullets due to cost.
  19. I didn't care for the 125gn conical nose. I had some nosediving issues with extended basepads
  20. My buddy and I shot my first two chronographs. Luckily they are less than $100 on amazon prime, lol.
  21. I have also used a capful of Hoppe's #9 as well. Its great for taking off the bullet lube from lead bullets.
  22. Not the SP01 flavor. The SP01/Shadow must be able to qualify in SSP first in order to play in ESP due to the full length steel dustcover. SInce the Acu Shadow bushing was not installed by the factory, it would be considered an external modification and cannot play in SSP which in turn prevents it from being used in ESP. If you had the Acu Shadow Lite, or a CTS Longslide Acu Shadow that was built on the 75SA frame (without a full length steel dustcover) then you could use them for ESP.
  23. I would do the pencil test before modding anything. This will help give you an idea how hard the firing pin is hitting. My bone stock Match Elite launches the pencils pretty far.
