  1. take a little drive down to atwater and see charlie granger. you won't be sorry. he's a grand master and can do anything you'd need...super guy and a great gunsmith. http://members.aol.com/guntriks/
  2. anyone already try the new JP drop in unit? since it's adjustable, and chip raised his price, cost is the same. was curious if the adjustability of the new JP unit makes it better.
  3. benny, dunno if it's magic, but the loads are 27.2 of varget, 55 gr hornady's going about 3240 out of a 20" barrel. consistently drops 6 3/4-7" at 300 yds (with a 200 yd zero). when i do 68 grain, they drop 8 1/2" to 9" or so.
  4. ok, the range proves this will work (sorta). the extrapolation of MOA into reticle coverage at those distances appear to be accurate. application of the hypothesis is another story. at 300 yds, holding the top of the triangle on top of a 12" plate got dead center hits, no problem. however, holding over on an object that is black is a bear, since those thin black lines coming from the bottom make it hard to discern the plate. if the plate is white, it's much easier. at 400 yds, holding the bottom of the triangle on top of the plate worked just fine, again, assuming you can see the plate. bottom line, it's not easy to holdover with this scope. then again, not too many shots required past 300 yds. having said this, there are several this weekend at the area 2 3 gun.
  5. been trying to solve holdovers with an Accupoint on my AR. hypothetically, i have a solution that i'll try this weekend. works this way: my AR is zeroed at 200yds. bullet drops 6 1/4" at 300, 13" at 350 and about 21" at 400. the reticle for the Accupoint is 4MOA at 100 yds. therefore, one would conclude it's 8MOA at 200, 12 MOA at 300 and 16MOA at 400yds. so, holding the top of the triangle on the top of a 12" plate at 300 should hit about dead center. for 350yds, i'm thinking the bottom of the triangle in the middle of the plate, and for 400, the bottom of the triangle on the top of the plate. we'll see this weekend...
  6. brownells has been out of stock for over 10 days, on single & 2 stage versions...
  7. eris...how are you "doping it all out" on a computer?
  8. am i the only one wondering how long it will take uspsa to post anything from the BOD meeting a few weeks ago? all i see is some info on points series.
  9. well, the scoring on those 2 rifle stages were screwed up...there was supposed to be a max time of 3 mins for each, and they failed to stop some shooters at 180 seconds, so now it's almost worthless to compare. in any case, you have to figure it out. at the 3 gun nats this year, there was a stage (stage 15) with 4 long targets (336 yds & 266 yds). we had a guy throw 4 rounds down range at those at the end of the stage and finished 10th in the stage. another reason to make those targets worth more (but that's another thread)...
  10. according to trijicon, the specs of the ta21 reticle is 4 MOA at 4 power. does that equate to 4" at 100 yds? if so, can one extrapolate that to mean the reticle will be 8" at 200 yds, etc? trying to figure out holdover now that i know where it shoots with my ammo.
  11. rob...shhhhhh!!! just waiting for my black hills order...i'll be there...looks like a gas.
  12. which is another reason i moved to a right wing enclave, only 10 mins from one of the largest ranges in the state. after retirement in 5 years, outta this state for good (look out you oregonians)!!
  13. nope, nothing more to the story...that was it, and it happened in east sacramento...i assume yer familiar with that neck of the woods?
  14. going back many year, about the time safariland came out with with the 2 belt system, i was returning from a practice session and was in my driveway. a friend drove up and while unloading gear, i proceeded to show him the safariland rig. slappend the outer belt on, put a few mags in the pouch (but no gun), when a cop drives by. now, i live in the people's republic of california, so this wasn't good. cop stops, get's out of car and walks towards me and friend (again, in my driveway), unholsters his sidearm and tells us both to put our hands behind our head. after explaining what i was doing, then having to explain all the gear in my trunk (i was at a 3 gun practice), all was fine. but have to tell you, have been soured since that day, many, many years ago. all for just wearing a race rig with a couple mags on it on my own property!
  15. Looks kinda like a laptop - cut in half and stacked - No screen or input device. Bet it uses a notebook style hard drive - 5400 rpm or less? Did I read it correctly in that no burner in the package? it has the combo drive, so burning cds is there, as well as playing dvd's. for $100 more you get the superdrive, so you can then burn dvd's. i'm going to macworld tomorrow, but will keep wallet in pocket, especially since i already bought the new g5 imac and an acog.
  16. he was way ahead of the design curve. this guy made the first hi-cap 1911 i ever saw...by scratch! if you had the bucks, and the patience, he would build you a one-of-a-kind dream. i shot a steel gun he made for dr tom jow years ago...incredible piece of machinery. we'll miss ya jim.
  17. page 46 of new front sight...story about area 1. lower part of page has a shooter named greg nauman...wrong, it's ong45! although both are incredibly talented shooters, both regularly finishing in the top 10 at the nationals and steel challenge, this pic is none other than james ong. james is the primary reason i gave up shooting steel. having shot the steel challenge since 1984, after shooting steel with him each month for a couple years, it was readily apparent i would never catch this guy. thank god he doesn't like 3 gun. so erik, don't get him into that either!!!
  18. vegas! cool. hope the berms are a bit higher than the 98 nationals...i was ducking all week!
  19. i just took delivery of a TA-21. i mounted it on my flatop, and although i have yet to go to the range, i have ton's of eye relief. guess it depends on how long yer neck is, length of stock, etc, but on my AR, i didn't even have to have this puppy mounted all the way forward. looking forward to zeroing this puppy this weekend.
  20. a little channel and bar stock and a buzz box will work fine...
  21. i especially like #2, rich...remember us...
  22. how about "i will never, ever, use a dremel tool on anything that costs 40-50 times the price of the tool"!!
