  1. oh they're allowed, they just come with a few extra seconds added to them... jeez guys, get some time in idpa with your actual carry guns we don't use in uspsa because they're not competitive, and it's idpa so who cares how you place...
  2. has anyone flown using glock handgun cases (the one-piece case with the carry handle, with a lock preventing the handle/case being opened)? they don't have specific holes for locks but an adjustable lock can certainly go over the handle.
  3. yep tons of glocks used in 3 gun, uspsa, idpa, steel challenge, etc
  4. find a range that rents gen 3 and 4 and have her shoot both. i like the 4 because of the increased grip stippling, and the beavertail backstrap that, similar to a 1911, lets you get nice and high on the gun without slide bite. fyi the gen 4's come with an extra mag (3 vs 2), so that takes away some $25 of the increased cost. all of my glocks have aftermarket connectors and springs and i used the 4# out of the kit below on my last couple of glocks. i have used lighter striker springs and had primer issues. in addition to initial training etc, have her do a few idpa/uspsa matches with gun & gear to get familiar and to wring out any issues. and yes while i love my 1911's and 2011's, a glock 31 is by my bed and g32 is my primary carry gun. 100-009-557WB Complete Spring Kit Mfr Part: GHOGCSCK
  5. the problem with 'factory' 38 super is most don't meet the power factor. atlanta arms does and works fine in my open gun - for various reasons I do not reload. but AA is around $22/box + shipping.
  6. i was going to say just flip a coin, but limited is probably your best starting point if you have 40 major. not that uspsa is all that difficult, but less precise stage planning when you don't have to reload every 10/11 rounds. just remember, plan your reloads while moving between arrays, not while standing still. be safe and have fun.
  7. wow you are the friggin' MAN, thanks!! slid the clip off and the pin pretty much slid right out. unfortunately i trashed the clip trying to get it back in/over the pin so i get to order a 50 cent part and probably pay $10 in freight...
  8. looks super easy for righty's, but the lefty bolt release is still on the right side, so with ejection port on the left side, and bolt rails, i just cannot access the top of the roll pin to tap it down to remove the bolt release. it won't come straight up either as the rails for the bolt are in the way. has anyone removed one of these and if so, tips and tricks? thinking of tapping the roll pin up from the bottom and then either cutting it every 1/8" or so with side cutters or trying to bend it out and away from the bolt rails. it definitely won't just come all the way up. thanks!
  9. pretty much what chev said. while i do it for fun, i also do it to get better acquainted with my various guns which may be used to protect my life at some point (hopefully never). one other factor is the golf factor. sometimes the closest matches are 1-2 hours away, and they take 3-6 hours so pretty much a full day, which can be hard for those who can't or don't want to be away from their families all day.
  10. doesn't look all that rigid to me, at least from the pics. hit a gun show, at least at the ones near me, there are usually a few vendors there selling thick leather belts.
  11. my competition handguns stay in their midwayusa soft pistol cases in my humidity-controlled safe, with the mags in the side pockets. easier keeping gun and mags together vs gun in one place and mags in the other, and way too easy, at least for me, to mix up different caliber mags.
  12. thanks guys, it was indeed easy peasy! i'll put some sort of adhesive on it to keep it from rotating and if that doesn't work, i'll do a blind pin (ie just a tiny screw) at the rear hole in the hiviz sight.
  13. yeah, 8 shots (+) to get one target to score just isn't my def'n of fun, more like a carnival. and at least in 3 gun, not too many shooting 40 major. it actually is a fun target with a shotgun and shot at relatively close range, but just too much time wasted with a handgun.
  14. hoping i'm wrong but thinking the pro's (4" commander) won't be legal under the new rules, too tall? guess i'll have to shoot that in cdp, and run glock 23 or 32 if i want to play in ccp.
  15. try to find and attend some of those longer range matches and see what everyone is using. most if not all shooters will let you play with their gear and even shoot it some. best way to see what you like and feels best for you. imo, glass is a very important part of the accuracy equation, can't hit what you can't see. you don't want to cheap out here. per above, check out everyone's optics. nightforce and vortex are two of the tops. my first precision rig was a dpms LR308 ar-10 heavy 24" bbl in 308. after i installed a geissele 2 stage trigger, it was definitely sub-moa out to 600 yds (the furthest i measured) with Federal factory ammo. i think with the trigger and a magpul PRS stock i added it was around $1800 excluding optics. i have (and love) the nightforce nxs 5.5-22x56 and that (with the gun) will put you well over your total budget, but hey, budgets are just starting points, right...
  16. might be nice if the MD, when advertising the match, let folks know there would be some steel not calibrated for 9 minor. but other than that, with choices as to what to use, can't see any issues.
  17. might be 3 stories as it appears there is more info not divulged. maybe the foulmouth didn't hear the RO tell tapers to stand down temporarily? if the guy is a total curmudgeon i guess discuss with the MD. last match i shot, half of the squad ahead of us weren't pasting, just yacking at the loading table. i felt like raising a stink but instead just helped paste and reset for them to move things along. i hate sitting around.
  18. is the factory front fiber optic sight just soldiered (sp?) in there? can i heat it up with a propane torch and just pull it out? or perhaps screwed in? then do you just drill and tap to replace with a hi-viz sight? any help describing removing and replacing is greatly appreciated, thanks!
  19. not to me they won't, no new guns just to fit in idpa divisions. frankly the 4" commander i bought was in .45 even though i bought it to run in ccp, so it wasn't the most competitive choice but i bought it with the thought of carry gun primarily and being able to test/train/play with it in ccp. using it in cdp i'll have a shorter sight radius and lighter gun but won't have the 9mm vs 45 caliber recoil disadvantage. so all is not lost but still it is just wrong and bad biz to tighten specs up after they've been released and out there for a year or two.
  20. i actually copied wilson combat when i sent my nastygram to idpa, because mine is a wilson, of course they just replied back saying there was nothing they could do...
  21. can you use it in another division? guessing the answer is yes but it won't be as competitive as the full size guns in that division. i'm in the same boat, bought a 4" wilson 1911 commander for carry and idpa ccp (for practice) and it looks like i'll be competing instead against full size guns if i want to use it, not very happy.
  22. check out shootersconnection.com for comparison as they generally have good prices. also gunbroker.com.

    BUG GUN

yeah, i'm certainly not going to buy another gun to play in any idpa division before the super extra really final rules come out, and maybe only a year or two after they come out just to be sure. i've always preferred uspsa but this division equipment change crap certainly further tilted my interest away from idpa.
  24. yeah i have a gg&g that i like but think that was 2x your price. can you get a sling swivel stud mount for your rail, that might let you use some lower priced bipods?
  25. frankly that's crap and just irresponsible. idpa knew folks would use the new rules to justify running out and getting some more/different guns. if anything they should have set the specs more stringently provisionally and then loosened them in the final rules. who knows, maybe / hopefully they will pay attention to some of the feedback they got and this will be much ado over nothing.
