  1. I have used many 1-4x scopes and in your budget there is not much room for choice. First of all don't buy a crappy Larue mount for almost $200 when the other guys who told you to buy one didn't give even care that you said you were on a budget and talking about a cheaper scope. First of all even if you had the money to buy a good mount go with anything but larue. (ADM, BOBRO, Seekins, Badger) all make good rings and mounts. Now the Millet will be your best choice in the budget if you want to save a bit for a mount. Millets and the mount can run used as a package for about $300 and under. The TAC-30 is a good scope for the money also. I have used ACOGS and would never use one for 3-gun or any competition shooting. The 1-4x line is good but there is better for cheaper. I like the Burris XTRs but more money than you want to spend. The Vortex line is looking good and the SS series is looking even better for the 3-gun area. If I were you I would go for a Millet DMS or a TAC-30 in a burris PEPR mount and have some fun shooting.
  2. They do come apart but are a pain. If you want to mess with springs then get the non captured one from SSS.
  3. What brand? You really don't need QD but that's what I use in CSS I want to quickly swap my scope over to another rifle when mine blows up. LaRue I like the larue mounts for being made well they just don't return to zero well. ADM and Bobro have both worked without a single issue for me and I will never buy another Larue crapper again. Watch out for the fanboys though they come running like wolves if you say anything that gets their panties in a wad
  4. I shoot limited also but went with the bigger SSS magwell than the esp one. I posted my build a while ago on here. Not the Pro which I love the way they shoot and feel but I still do well with the FS and it keeps me in the race I also am running a KKM barrel and they do work well but are tighter than the stock barrel so make sure you load to the new barrel.
  5. I have never had a slam fire with my ARs and I shoot lots of round in a given year. I have seen it happen many times though without a single finger being put near the trigger. Most of the time its a round that is out of spec and left the line with a high primer and it is shocking as hell when one goes off like that but if I was the RO I would have made you take the gun point it once again down range and load another round to see if it was a one time issue or if you were safe to continue the match. That is why there are rules on keeping the gun pointed down range at all times, in the event something like this happens. The only other issue I have seen is bad headspace with a new barrel and it slamms the fireing pin into the round wrong causing a slam fire. Good luck in the future and hope this is the last time you have to deal with this. Take care and good shooting.
  6. It installs just about as easy as changing the grip and adding a small pin through the back. Takes about five minutes.
  7. You obviously haven't done a Kimber or Springfield. I have done a Kimber Raptor and a Springfield 1911 so what did you have issues with?
  8. Brass is not cheaper from what I have seen. Not a hue price amount but please tell me that was sarcasm?
  9. I know that Troy makes the Larue sights and even LMT also. They just place their name on them. If you tighten the troys down to the same torqe everytime then they will return to zero. Make sure you put them back in the same place they came off and you will be fine.
  10. I run the safariland 774s and fastmags on my chest rig. If I am shooting with my gear all mounted on my belt then the safariland all day. The fastmags are great on the vest or chest rigs. The safariland mounts nice and holds your magazines where you need them.
  11. Leupold will have to start building better scopes if they ever want me as a customer again. Their newer products have been so far off from a quality scope that they are losing many people. For the cost there are better scopes out there. Leupold even asked Frank from Snipers Hide to go to there factory to help them build a better product due to all the complaints. First rule they should follow is stop buying chinese parts
  12. Speed shooters might have some in stock also, http://speedshooterspecialties.com/catalog/displayitem.php?rowid=66&type=P-500 Universal Sight Tool
  13. I have been using the B&J 500 and it works, have yet to get any sights that won't move with it. If you want to try it out send me a pm I am sure we could work something out.
  14. The slide won't lock back without extra power springs. If you used factory magazine springs then that is the issue. These guns make great Limited setups.
  15. I have one in my .40 FS if you want to see that? Are you having an issue on the install?
  16. Why don't you stipple the area below it where her thumb is supposed to be? It would make a good memory point also.
  17. Call Smith And Wesson they can sell you one.
  18. It is a thumb memory point. I do it on both sides for memory points.
  19. It looks like you have stippling or something on the 2nd "hill" of the front serrations, is that dremeled/soldered? Or just a funky glare from the camera? If so, how'd you stipple the actual slide itself? The only thing I think you are seeing is the M&P logo that was there. I was checking weight removed from the slide and liked the way this felt so I didn't go back and remove the logos also. If I were to do it again I would have kept it at this weight but took some of the slide where the logo was to remove all engraved parts.
  20. The Stippling I do is called "Tree bark pattern" and it offers more than grip tape and works great. Here is a picture of my limited M&P
  21. I run the Dan Burwell rear sight on my competition gun. Works great for picking up the FO front post.
  22. Speed Shooters Supply has just about everything you need. Unlike the other M&P with the Red dot on top (which I think is a waste since its mounted on the slide) SSS is working on a optic mount to fix this problem. Just give them a call and explain what you want to do. Go with the KKM barrel if they make a threaded one over the storm lake. I wouldn't do such a big side cocker on it like the other one also. JMHO if you have any questions send me a PM I shoot a M&P in limited and the thing runs flawless and has me shooting the same scores as the tricked out STI handguns.
  23. Midway for sure sells them but they have to order from Smith and Wesson so you are better going direct. IMHO
  24. You can order new slides but if you are going from 9mm to .40 you will have to get new magazines also. I would say buy another gun but your friend had of spent a pretty penny on the glock parts also. If this is the route you decide to go I think the slides with sights are right around $370 so you would be better off buying a used .40 M&P and then you would have a couple magazines and a complete gun.
  25. I am running a spikes (seekins) BAR rail and sitting on it is troy DOA BUIS and they work great when I was shooting Irons. The zero never changed so that might only be because of other rails with some movement in them. I run optics now. I have seen guys knock their sights over when mounted on the barrel before so I think even if I were to run irons again I would still go with the same setup. This rail is the best I have used and I don't think there is to many I didn't try. The SAR is also built in Idaho by Seekins. http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/spikes-tactical-12-bar-rail-p-448.html
