  1. run flat triggers in all of my 2011 guns. Tried the curved trigger but just did not like the feel compared to a flat trigger
  2. My very first major match I left my sponsor Jersys at home. Ended up shooting the match in Walmart polos, which by the way was lucky it was a 24 hour Walmart. I have used a packing list every major since then
  3. Based on your observations I would believe the grip has more to do with the fit to your hand than any other feature of the DVC. Extreme Shooters provides those grips to STI and can be purchased through Dawson or Extreme Shooters. I have an Extreme Shooters grip on all 5 of my 2011 frame guns and could not be happier.
  4. Whatever division I commit to shoot, I always have a backup gun. Right now I am shooting Limited and I have 2 identical Akai guns. I also have 2 identical Production guns from CZ Custom. Next year my plan is to shoot open and I have just committed to Lone Star Innovations to build my 2nd identical Open gun. Sometime sh$$ happens
  5. As in many things in life you must acknowledge the fact that you have a problem. Then and only then can you fix the problem. Best of luck Dave I will be pulling for you
  6. Both of the guns are stroked and my perception is that you can tell a difference in the recoil of those guns compared to guns I have owned that were not stroked. Hopefully you will have an opportunity to shoot an Akai gun and make that assessment on your own experience. Good luck
  7. After reading through many of the same themed posts the one constant I have walked away with is that the response are purely opinion based. I believe most shooters that have custom guns have chosen their builder based on their friends thoughts and perhaps the ability to shoot those guns. Now that the disclaimer is covered, I have 2 Limited guns built by Shay Akai and I love those guns. I have enjoyed working with Shay and his crew and they take care of their customers. I believe that Atlas is a worthy consideration based on other posts I have read. The common thread in a custom gun is that it won’t be available for some time and the cost of any builder’s gun is comparable to the next builder’s gun. Best of luck with whatever choice you make and have fun ?
  8. The 2018 MS Classic is in the books not only for me but for everyone who attended the match. Let me say what a GREAT job Archie and Ladonna Nichols did with their very first MS Classic. I know they tag teamed on this as I saw e-mails and posts at different times from each of them. I feel certain that we will see the two of you again at future MS Classic matches. Keith Lemoine, congrats at your RM duties, while everything appeared to be smooth I am sure you were hustling in the background. RO's, staff and any and everyone that had anything to do with this match, THANK YOU for your hard work and dedication to the shooting sports. To your families and employers another THANK YOU for allowing you the time away to work the match To my MS friends, I can't tell you how much I realize how lucky I am to be considered one of your friends. The handshakes and hugs mean an awful lot to me and is the main reason I keep coming back. The GOOD Lord willing I will continue to attend this match for this very reason Did I Mention THANK YOU
  9. Howdy HickLife and welcome to the forums. If I am not mistaken there is a group that shoots on a regular basis in the Bryan / College Station area
  10. Howdy goat80 and welcome to the forums. You have a wealth of information at your fingertips as a forum member. You need to look into matches held monthly in Gonzales and put on by EAPS.
  11. Howdy and welcome to the forum
  12. Watched it Charlie and really enjoyed your approach to your training technique. I wish I was closer there is not a doubt I could benefit working with you. Walter
  13. My son got me into open. He was of the opinion that I would benefit from the dot so I built an Open gun. My vision still allows me to see the front sight on my Limited guns and as such Limited it is. When I start losing the ability to see the front sight then my Open gun it is
  14. Eddie, I applaud your commitment to your son's education and your sacrifice of giving up both spots to help him. Best of luck with the exams and there is always next year.
  15. I believe having a slide racker on an open gun is pretty much a no brainer. As others have said the ability to rack an open gun with many of the features that go into most builds today greatly limits your ability to rack the slide without one. Whatever decision you make best of luck
  16. I believe dvc4you is partially on the right track, just my opinion dvc4you , keep your 1911 pistols for now and look into getting a more moderately priced 2011 to run. Obviously you enjoy / enjoyed the 1911 platform at one time and before letting them go make sure you have the same attraction to the 2011 platform. You can watch the forums here on Enos and come across some excellent deals on 2011 pistols if you decide to go with a used gun to experiment with. Best of luck with whatever decision you make
  17. I guess I should have clarified with "Uber" - meaning like or similar to Uber. Anyway I am sure Drew was on it when I posted. By the way the stages are totally awesome
  18. Drew, since I got into the match and I am kind of old are you going to Uber me and my shooting equipment to and from the range each day?
  19. All my matches are no less than a 2 hour drive one way. As others have said a backup gun, while not a necessity, certainly enhances your match experience should your primary gun go down. As far as shooting a major, a backup gun is a given
