  1. I would be interested in what you all think about this issue when you look at what the shooter competes in. To me that would be important when making the decision. For instance a shooter who only/or primarily competes in USPSA Limted/Limited 10 and Steel Challenge compared to one who shoots a mix of USPSA Limited with some Production or SS thrown in but also competes in multi gun. I fall int the 2nd and would not want to compete in multi-gun with a race holster even in the matches that allow it. That said, I find myself more comfortable with a regular holster and the same draw each time. It is sort of like adding a front mounted magazine when you are used to shooting Prod or other with the mags behind the hip bone. I never ended up using the mag, always went for them on the side.
  2. Like the layout a lot better, but more important I liked the spread of articles as well. While I like to read through write-ups on major matches, I always read the info articles first. This edition seemed to have many more of those. As a local MD I particularly liked all of the articles from the RMs an RMIs on running the clubs, stage design, etc.
  3. But must be 2 or more feet from fault lines or shooting boxes, 2 ft high and defined in the WSB. Also, for those who are newer at stage design- Forbidden Action is for use in the match, not in designing stages. It does have to be written into the WSB, but that is after it goes into effect because of something in the match. 2.3.3.1 a and b can seem to contradict each other a bit with a saying in can be used for unintended loop holes but b specifies not for "cutting the corner" etc. Also, my reading of Level 1 exemption does NOT allow specifying where someone can move just where targets can be engaged from and when. Not something I ever like to do. That said, done right I am sure it can help some clubs without a lot of props or indoors to still compete. Oh, loved the articles in Front Sight this month. Hoping a lot of stage designers and MDs were reading it and they do more like those.
  4. yeah, with the 180s my Glock 35 just felt sluggish. Might be just me since I am used to the 40 recoil. With the 165s you can get the PF down a bit more and still seem to have the slide speed and feel I liked.
  5. What length can you load 40 to for an M&P? I would think it would be closer to the Glock OAL to fit the magazines so you might be better off starting with that data since most load long for the 2011s. I had troubles getting the PF down on my 40 minor loads with 180grn bullets. I like WSF and have been sing 165s loaded to about 135PF and using a 13lb spring in my Glock 35s. I just got in some Ranier 135s to play with and see what I can do for minor with those though.
  6. I have not seen either a drop in round count OR a drop in shooters. In fact we have lots of new shooters and as ammo becomes more available hopefully even more. Just have to let shooters know ahead I guess, that way they can save/stock up/reload or whatever to have the ammo. In fact last month we had a charity match instead of our normal USPSA match. Our charity matches tend to be high round count matches, this one was even more so. 5 stages, 280 rounds. On stage was 68 and the next was 72, there were some TIRED trigger fingers by the end of each of those. All told we shout almost 20,000 rounds in those 5 hours and I did not see a frown in the bunch
  7. I like the route of putting the extra "grip" on the gun. I had my limited Glock 35 done by Southpaw. Along with the grip work he did (undercuts, beaver tail, etc.), he added a very aggressive texturing onto the grip.
  8. I only load for 40 in pistol so I regularly swap between minor and major depending on what matches I am shooting. Like was said above, using 165 grn (or 180grn) bullets I only download to about 135PF. And that is with a 13lb recoil spring. Be careful about going to light on the recoil spring, especially if you don't have a reduced power striker spring installed. They work against each other to keep the slide in battery when you pull the trigger and load the striker spring. To me, compared to a 125PF 9mm load in Glock 34 the 135PF 40 S&W load is softer. I just received some 135grn 40s from Ranier Ballistics to try out for the minor loads.
  9. I just want to clarify. Have there been issues posted about 55grn FMJ from Montana Gold bought BEFORE Aug 2012? I occasionally use a suppressor and the last thing I need is to have baffle strikes on that. Thanks
  10. For pistol, I only reload for 40 and don't have any 9mm anyway. I carry 40 so when I got into the games I stuck with my Glock 23 for a year and then jumped to a 35. I just load minor ammo when shooting Production, steel, 3 gun etc. A little more for the bullets than 9mm but not much. My limited setup has a Barsto barrel that is fitted a good bit tighter than the Glock barrels. Not only does this seem to give a bit better accuracy (but really not enough to tell) but it also helps with getting a nice trigger pull. Others have tried to duplicate what I have, including me on a stock 35, but I think that tight lockup is the extra part to a great trigger pull.
  11. Sounds like what happens on classifiers- shooters just get to going way to fast (led by me of course!). Sometimes it is the paper that sucks them in to shooting the steel to fast, other times the opposite. The way you had it set actually should have made it easier since all of the paper had no shoots. If you had some paper with and some paper without it really would get a lot of newer shooters. Either they will shoot the open targets at to slow a pace or burn through the paper, including the ones with no shoots. I try to have a balance of longer/obscured precision shots, medium quick ones and some wide open and in your face. Amazing how many A/D or A/M those close in "what front sight" targets will get due to transitioning to fast. Some stages will have both, some will have one or the other. That way you don't end up with a hoser match or a precision match, it is a mix. Could not see the classifications of your shooters, but I will say that having a couple of Masters and a couple of top notch As has been a help for me in designing stages, along with always have some new shooters at the other end of the scale.
  12. I emailed to sales@rainierballistics.com explaining the cert and number and heard back from Shane via email.
  13. Can anyone tell me how you redeem Montana Gold certificates since they do not take mail, fax or phone orders? Thanks
  14. Wow, that has got to be HOT, even with your longer OAL. I had 185PF with 5.5grn WSF at OAL of 1.135 and 180grn Bayou. I shooting out of a Barsto barrel in a Glock. 5.1grns at my shorter OAL made 169PF at the SC sectional match.
  15. That is my favorite manual as well. That said, I really do like to get my new load data from the powder manufacturers online. I am not talking about using any old recipe some guy posts, these are from the powder companies own website and will be the most up to date since there is no publication time, etc. Granted that is most often for newer powders, bullets or even cartridges but a good idea to check anyway.
  16. Guess not. If it was anything like here on the coast in GA today it was a downpour to fill the bays. That reminds me, who is bringing the mag washing bucket for Squad 1? Just in case the puddles are not as deep as at Area 6 for rinsing them out :
  17. Why the good weather, do you want all of that practice we just had in the mud to be for nothing
  18. That was my plan, we were the last squad to shoot it on Sun so it was completely churned up. I just hoped the shooting box was still staked down well after all of the shooters in the match had gone through! It was The DQ's did seem to be spread out. I ran Stage 4 all day Fri. and I was worried as it was a tight one. We only had 2 that day, not sure how many of the others were on Stage 4 the other days but they were not limited to one stage. Stefan has photos up on his Facebook http://www.facebook.com/StefanzPhotoz?ref=ts&fref=ts And Glenn Miller has posted his to a dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jvt4b5yurz0ep7w/nKyfQimU56
  19. Unfortunately I am one of that 100. I hate to miss it this year, have had a blast the last 2 years, but they went and scheduled training I have to attend. Next year!?

    primers...

Check your local shops, there seem to be a trickle of primers making it into some of them. I stopped by a local one in Richmond Hills, GA and he had just gotten in Winchester small pistol and rifle and large pistol and rifle. Not a ton but saw a few sleeves of each. Not sure if he is limiting as I just grabbed 1000 small rifle since much of what I have in that is Tula.
  21. I use WSF for all of my major and minor 40 loads. Lots of newer powders out there but I like my old standby (and thus have lots on hand). I have recently switched most of my loading over to Bayou Bullets so I don't have real good data there yet so I won't post those until I do. I had been, and still do some, using Precision Delta FMJ in 165 and 180grn Always work up your own loads, and these were in a Glock 35 stock barrel and a Glock 35 Barsto barrel so they are longer than yours. All are with Winchester small pistol primers and OAL of 1.135 165grn FMJ 4.9grn WSF 812fps 133 power factor verified at major match- was my minor/3-gun laod 165grn FMJ 6.6grn WSF 1029fps 169.8 power factor verified at major match 180grn FMJ 5.0 grn WSF 870fps 156 power factor verified at major match- had problems going any lower for minor so went with 165grn load 180grn FMJ 5.6 grn WSF 940fps 169 power factor verified at major match- was my major load
  22. Thanks guys, turns out is was just me being a bonehead! I can tell this cold has been kicking my butt, by the time I get home after teaching all day my brain is pretty much shut down. Finally realized the file I was getting was only about 28kb, I was not getting to the dropbox and getting the real file but the file I was getting was named Practiscore.apk Anyway, working fine now. Thanks again
