  1. 28 round long course I used at match this weekend. Modify, use, critique at will!Get Low.pdf
  2. Spanky, used this one at local match yesterday, fun stage. Wrote the WSB for start position to be "Standing in shooting area with heels touching rear fault line" to allow some choice on starting spot (had already used starting anywhere in shooting area on another stage at this match). One caution for anyone using this stage, check the position of your rear left fault lines or targets T6, T11 and T12. The diagram as Spanky designed it is good, but I did not catch that the guys setting up the stage made the rear left corner a bit to far out (or did not tuck T6 in behind the wall enough). Limited/Open shooters could stand in that corner and catch all of the left side targets. This could also happen with 11 and 12. On the other hand, it did lead some shooters to try it and not make the shots on the long targets. We stretched those out to the back berm to make them a bit longer shots if you did not move forward. Thanks, Tim
  3. Yep, looks like it is up to the MD. "6.2.4 Subject to the prior approval of the Match Director, a competitor may enter a match in more than one Division. However, the competitor may compete for match score in only one Division, and that must be the first attempt in all cases. Any subsequent attempts in another Division will not count for match recognition. 6.2.4.1 Level I matches may allow competitors to enter multiple Divisions for match recognition." I had not realized that they can actually shoot for match score in more than 1 division in a Level 1 match though. We do allow shooting the classifier stage (or the whole match if Special Classifier match) for extra USPSA fee but not for other stages. We have to clear the range by 1:30 so there is not enough time.
  4. Looks like ShootingUSA is going to show the 2010 Pro/Am again on June 29th. Doubt that will help with those dreams!
  5. Glad they enjoyed it. Everyone seemed to enjoy it as something a bit different. Forced them to engage the star in an order they would never do regularly.
  6. Spanky, Thanks for posting- I am thinking #3 will be perfect for next Sat. in one of our medium bays. Trying to keep the number of props down with the heat here in GA for the next few months. Tim
  7. Welcome to the boards, lots of good info for both here. Also wanted to say hello since I am the match director for the club in Brunswick (CAPS= Coastal Area Practical Shooters) that you mention. As you probably know, we shoot the 4th Sat. of each month. If you Google our name you will get our web page where you can sign up for the newsletter (basically just emails from me) and also pre-register for matches. We use Palms to do the scoring so if you pre-register through the web page we can call you by name rather than a number all day! Also, if you have any questions you can contact me through the board here or my email is on the CAPS webpage. Many of us from CAPS shoot at the SEPSA matches and they shoot up here (actually many of us are members at both). They shoot the 2nd Sat. of the month (and most months with a 5th Sat. they will hold a multi-gun match). I shoot there when I don't have to run (or just decide to shoot in) our steel match up in Brunswick. You can get to SEPSA from our webpage or search as well. Look forward to seeing you at a match Tim
  8. I have that setup in my 23 and 27s for carry. Was not a fan of the stock trigger on those, being my first striker fired guns, and found that this set up was more to my liking. Shot the 23 for the first year in USPSA (promised myself to shoot that gun for a year) before getting a 35 with the lighter stock trigger package. For competition the 35s setup is much better but I learned a lot that first year with the 23 and NY1 and 3.5 set up. It is pretty much a personal choice and whoever mentioned the reset above was right. The NY1 and 3.5 connector have a VERY positive reset.
  9. Try Kenny at Speed Shooter Specialties (forum dealer). He does tungsten guide rods for Glocks, got my full length G35 guide rod from him. Probably can help you out with a longer one for the 24. I do know that mine was set up for ISMI springs though.
  10. Thanks for the comments, I agree about stand and shoot and stay from it most times, even in the small bays- but at times it just has to be. Realize that those two small bays are barely wide enough to set up 1 steel challenge stage in each. Smoke and Hope goes from one side to the other in the bay. I usually have either a short move left or right and forward or back but sometimes you just have to go with what you have. On the zebra stage I actually was going for the slow/fast/slow/fast- may have overdone it a but but it also was a bit of a memory stage since the far targets could be taken from various places and many had extra shots and some FTEs. Turned out the covered star was a lot of fun and you could hear the squads laughing and all while shooting it. Everyone that shoots the star more than a few times knows the procedure (whether they make the hits or not is a different story) to shoot a star, even if it is way out there. By forcing people to shoot out of order or try through the soft cover it made for some fun. Had shot something similar in the past where the wall was hard cover (but not real hard cover) and that led to a bunch of reshoots- particularly since you could see through the mesh of the wall. That is why I went with softcover that you could not see through (black construction/dirt fence). Oh, and for setup- man to I wish! Not that many to help and we have to be shooting just after 9 so that we are cleared from the range by 1PM (usually ends up being 1:30). Someday the new bays will be ready, I hope.
  11. New as match director for the local club (4th match yesterday) and pretty new to stage design. I am attaching 3 stages from yesterday's match and would appreciate critique and suggestions. And of course any blatant screw ups! Everyone seemed to enjoy the match and had good things to say about the stages, but would like some outside opinions for future reference. A little background- we run 5 stages with 2 narrow bays, 2 a bit larger and the largest being maybe 25yds wide by 20yds deep. Also, since the match closes down the whole club we cannot setup until the morning of the match. Other 2 stages were a classifier and a larger 32 round field course. I hate zebras- bay 2.pdf Keep moving- bay 4.pdf What Star- bay 5.pdf
  12. As a new MD I feel your pain. Seems like each month I say I will have them ready early but never quite do. Also same boat with Sketchup, hope to get some time to play with it soon. I seem to come up with ideas when it is not convenient to write them down, then I end up with sketches on a weird things that get lost. Some ideas come from some of the stages that others post here. Or remember stages you have shot and use the concept to help design new ones. Hope to post a few for critique soon. Good luck.
  13. How about 50 rounds in 20 seconds (and that was with major 40 ammo in a Glock 23 at the time) for mine and the fast time of the day was 17 sec. That was during a mini-monster match put on by our outgoing MD. Talk about a HOSEFEST. That said, it was a blast putting a box of ammo downrange in 20 seconds. I don't have a layout of it, but it was basically a rectangular shooting area across the bay with barrels and 10 targets set at about 4 yards from the front of the shooting area. 10 targets, best 5 rounds scored. You could see each target from at least 2 places so the count worked (remember, this was a monster match). Amazing how many people had misses but more amazing were the targets not engaged. Can be set up in a small bay.
  14. Sent in my application Sat. but have a question. I put down C for the limited match (C class in both Limited and Production), but don't have a classification for Open. Will the C class for the others be used for the open match (I am shooting using my Production gun for both) or will I be stuck with Unclass. for that one? Read through the rulebook and the website but could not tell for sure. Seemed to say that either Open or Limited could be used for both (besides IDPA does not even have one like Open) but was not sure. Glad to see that the match looks to be on. Put out a club newsletter to let others know not to wait on the regis. just in case. Thanks (edited to clarify)
  15. Thanks, If I am going to go, might as well shoot both matches even if it is with my same Production gun. Will get the registration in the mail, hope there have been a bunch of others sent in, would hate to have the match end up cancelled.
  16. Think I am going to be able to shoot this, heard that a lot will shoot both the Open and Limited with their limited guns. Thought I saw someplace, but could not find it- does that mean that they go to 2 different prize tables (or 2 trips if only one) based on their finish? Also, what about those who cannot stay until Sun. after the match? I only have experience with regular USPSA matches so far, new to me. Did see it the last few years on TV and looks like a blast, now that it is closer I figure I had better find a way to go! Hope that the apps start coming in to keep the match on. Will send the info to those I know around here, send and email to the local USPSA club and also post at the gun club. Thanks
  17. Was given a pair of the cheaper ones with horrible directions for Christmas. Have worked pretty well so far, but I am using the cheap 8G micro-SD card that came with them. I have heard that putting a better quality card in them will helps as well. If you let the batteries run out the time stamp will go back to the original one. The only way I found to change it is to use a text file. "To change the date stamp you need to do the following: Load the SD card into the glasses and then link to your PC with the USB cable. Next open a new Notepad file. Type the correct date and time in the format 2010-12-09 21:30:00 for example. Use the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS. Anyway, save this file as time.txt onto the glasses memory. Now delete every other file, which is probably just the folder for storing the images. The next time you record, it will use the date and time from your file but you’ll never see the file again as it seems to be deleted after being read for the first time." Worked on mine
  18. Yep, that was the match (I was the guy you got your scoresheet from and did the scores). Fun match. I watched your video, you did a good job of moving so that you were taking the steel more direct than some and staying on the larger, closer ones. I made the mistake of spending some shells on the plate racks and some of the smaller steel out back. That and pushing the time so some of the shots were not centered. That stage made me pay for those iffy shots, higher power shells would have given a bit better margin for sloppiness. It did make me clean up my shots on the stage 2 though. Cannot change the choke on the old 1100 I am using, need to look into whether I can have the barrel threaded or not. Any chance you got video of stage 2 with the stars and rifle through the barrel? Careful, multi-gun is addictive.
  19. Bringing some high brass can make all the difference, even with the same size shot. I was shooting a 18.5in 870 at last year's Area 6 multi-gun championship, new to the multi-gun and first major match. I brought plenty of slugs but just low brass 7 1/2s. Ran into a stage with 3 poppers out at a longer distance than I had shot before. Luckily shooters are helpful and someone offered me some high brass 6s. Took all 4 that I had to take down the 3 poppers but would have hated to be shooting those low brass 7 1/2s. (paid forward the kindness with slugs to some other guys who did not bring enough) Last weekend was a local multi-gun match with 44 pieces of steel and a 60 second par time on one stage. Lots of the steel was out there a ways and again I messed up and brought the low brass cheap ones from WM. Paid for it on that stage. Another shotgun/rifle stage had 6 clays and 2 stars. Watched many have problems with the far star, was able to scrounge 4 high brass from a mixed box in the trunk. Low brass for the clays and close star and loaded those 4 for the last star, made the difference (that and actually aiming a bit more!). Short answer, bring the size shot prescribed by the club/range but make sure some of it is high brass. And know your patterns and make sure you are as square to the long range steel as possible. Any angle really affects how your shot hits when the pattern is thin and the shot slowing down.
  20. Sorry, not doing a special classifier this month at CAPS, our last one was in Aug. so it will be later this year for another. The other club to check would be SEPSA (shoot 2nd Sat. in Yulee, FL)- have not heard what their match will be this month but doubt a special classifier as they had one last July. Tim
  21. That explains the instructions for one of the stages last month. They included that the ammo can had to be ON the activator prior to the last shot being fired.
  22. Thanks for the help and replies. Think I have it. I am sure it is not the last time I will be asking for help/opinions as I get further into this. Been reading back posts to help as well. Going to go find that post on activating AFTER last shot, I was doing alright until that one came up!
  23. New to all the bits and pieces of scoring correctly and have a question on moving target scoring. The rule is: 9.9 Scoring of Moving Targets 9.9.1 Moving scoring targets which present at least a portion of the highest scoring area when at rest following the completion of their designed movement, or which continuously appear and disappear, will always incur failure to shoot at and/or miss penalties (exception see Rule 9.2.4.4). 9.9.2 Moving scoring targets, which do not comply with the above criteria are considered disappearing targets and will not incur failure to shoot at or miss penalties except where Rule 9.9.3 applies. 9.9.3 Moving scoring targets will always incur failure to shoot at and miss penalties if a competitor fails to activate the mechanism which initiates the target movement. 9.9.4 Level I matches only - If the written stage briefing prohibits the engagement of certain targets prior to activation, the competitor will incur one procedural penalty per shot fired at such targets prior to oper- ating the activating mechanism, up to the maximum number of avail- able hits (see Rule 2.1.8.5.1). Question is this- if a target is either hidden or the A zone not visible prior to the target being activated and it disappears at the end, how is it scored if it is either activated and missed or activated and then the shooter does not engage? If I read the rule right, there would be no penalties in either case, right? So am I right that the target would be scored as a 0 since no scoring hits were made but there would not be a -10 for the miss OR the failure to engage? Basically this would just result in the shooter not getting any points for the target. Had seen this done once and never really understood. If that is the case, what if a shooter does NOT activate the target. What penalties would be assessed if the target was to be engaged with 2 rounds? Thanks
  24. My flip tray- an empty primer tray and a paper plate. I use Winchester if possible, CCI if not, and they come with the primers facing smooth side up in the tray. Put empty tray over the full one and flip it over, now most will facing with the anvil showing. Lay paper plate on the primer tray, hold tight and flip it over. Pick up the tray and you have 10 nice straight rows ready for the pickup tube. There might be a few upside down but a little "flick" with the end of the primer tube to get them upright is all it takes.
  25. New to the forum as well, will post my info in a bit, did you make the steel match today? I had shot the SEPSA match yesterday (from GA so I normally am shooting steel 2nd Sat. in Brunswick) and stayed down here to shoot the steel match today at Ancient City. Had a good time, hope to be back. The guys at SEPSA are fun to shoot with, many of them make it to Brunswick for our matches up there as well. Hope you had a good first match today!
