  1. Man, last week in Biloxi the weather got cooler for a few days. Saturday morning at0730 I arrived at our range to set up, and i thought about putting my emergency long sleev on. It was like 63. Just over a week or so ago it was 98 with an index of about 105. Not quite as hot as DFW, but the humidity was 95 percent. We normally tell people that on teh Gulf Coast in August we have the 90's. 90+ degrees and 90+ percent huidity.
  2. Baby wipes, cortisone cream (over the counter version), a couple of Ace bandages, and a lot of things that were mentioned above. Not medical but I usually carry extra socks, underwear, and most important for matches after eating Mexican teh night before. Immodium, both liquid and tablets.
  3. Unlike you guys, my hands apparently are not big enough for the mag release to bite me. The extended slide stop that ame on my 24 and 35 is still too short for my stubby little thumb to reach it. I can't reach either without shifting my grip.
  4. Do you have to be a C to join this race? When I first started I had a couple of really low claiisfiers (26 and 30 percent or so) and have been trying to pull muself up. I've shot teh lase three or four in the mid forties and my average is now 38.1. A couple more in the 40's and I may be able to squeek my way into Limited Division C Classification status. Thanks
  5. Welcome. These guys on this site have taught me a lot and answered just about every question I've had.
  6. And another welcome from the South, and the Gulf Coast of Mis-sip-pi ( that's Mississippi to my Northern bretheren).
  7. An "old: sniper showed his trick. One pair of athletic socks, black or OD green of course, and one jar of air soft bb's from Wally World. Pour the jar in on sock and double knot the sock as far down as you can. Put the first sock into the second sock, knot toward the toe. Now knot the second sock. One of the jars was more thatn enough, unliess you need a very big bag. This works great for something you have to carry with you, whether in a pocket or in a pack.
  8. Foofy? Is that a technical term? I can only find it used in a movie, and that was Madagascar 2. "Foofy" is what Alec the lion called his baby blanket.
  9. Slow down on your first shot until yu can hit the plate every time. When you figure out your times, use to record your time for a draw and fire with 100 percent hits. Just work on being smooth, front sight and hitting the first plate every time. I think you will find tht you time for the first shot hit will get better and better until you reach your max. when you figure out your par time, you can set the par time feature of your timer to that time and sue that to dry fire at home. Just make sure that you focus on hitting the plate and not the time. It has been posted at about a thousand places on this forum, but you can't miss fast enough.
  10. Duane is exactly right. I have owned 6 .40 Glocks. Two would eat anything you fed it, and the other four were picky as a rich girl. I have owned a bunch of Glocks in other calibers also, and the forties are the only ones that seem to have the 45 degree failure to feed. My G24 feeds the 185 Precisions at whatever COAL I decide to use, but the jacketed TC's will FTF at the worst possible moments.
  11. Happy Birthday, from the Gulf Coast.
  12. No, just use the warm weather formula Slide Glide.
  13. Yeterday we had a local match that had one stage that was 18 pieces of steel that included small poppers, lollipops and a Texas Star in the middle. There were a couple of new shooters that really struggled, along with several way more experienced shooters that really-really struggleds. Then there was this one new guy in our squad. He was having a rough day, and we kept telling him not to worry about the time, just focus on the front sight and squeeze. About the time we hit the steel stage, he was catching on, and dis pretty doggone good. what he was smiling about the most is the he did the stage a lot better that the guy that talked him into coming out for the match. The whole squad congratulated him and from the look on his face, I'd surmise that we have a new devotee.
  14. Shoot it the way it is until you get the set up you want. I found that as I shot more and more, teh more I learned about what made the pistol feel better to me. And I think you sill also come to realize what almost all of us to at some point, that it's the Indian and not the arrow. Unless you are someone that is exceptionally talented, the gun as it is is better than you are.
  15. Try the Speer Lawman 165's. They smoke. Speer factory states that they load them as practice ammo for the Speer Gold dot 165's.

mgood: Man I had that happen to me in the Black Cat in Tijuana in 1972. This chick sits down in the booth next to me and my friends (5 other Jarheads from Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms). She asked if I would like to buy her a drink (probably really Kool Ade or tea) and I said sure. The waitress slaps down about ten shotglasses and begins to pour. As the waitress begins to pour, the chick begins to down the shots. Shem drank all ten in about 30 seconds, and the waitress says that's $30.00, and i replied I wasn't paying for squat (that's the sanitized version of what I really said). IT took the TJ Constabuloary about one minute to arrive on the scene. When teh two TJ policemen came in the first thng I noticed was one had a Colt Peacemaker in a tied-down gunfighter rig and the other had a nickle plated 1911 with genuine mother of pearl grips. This should have told me somthing, but 20 year old Marines with relatively high BAC's (whcih has a strong effect of practical IQ's. But, I also told them that I wasn't paying, and that they wan't arresting squat. I was wrong. Have any of yu guys seen the inside of the Tijuana City Jail? I paid $30.00, The $100.00 fine for insulting the police and the $50.00 to the Sergeant to let me out now instead of in the morning.
  17. In the early 60's there was a series of books called the We Were There Series. For Chritmas in 1962 I got the PT 109 edition of the series. I read teh book nuermous times until it became a Hurricane Camille casualty in 1969. I have always been amazed at how closely the book paralalled the movie, or vice versa.
  18. I would highly recommend the air soft bb's. If you are going to be out in weather, rice, corncob media or anything else that is porous can soak up water and end up weighing a ton. If you are strictly bench shooting this is not as big a problem. If you are fieled shooting or stalking hunting or tactical)the extra weight is definitly a problem.
  19. Yes. Through the end of 2010 and into 2011 my G35 wasdoing exactly that. It was a stock barrel, and would hang up no matter if it was factory ammo, or my reloads. At the time I was using Winchester 180 FMJ truncated cone bullets, loaded to 1.120 to 1.122. I tried changing springs, in the gun, in the mags, wiht Dawson extensions, with stock basepads and any combination thereof. Then a friend gave me some Precision 185 grain, moly coated bullets. They have a round nose type contoyr with the tip flat. I also began loading them out to 1.135. The work fine now and I use an ISMI stainless guide with a 15# ISMI spring. I still haven't figured out exactly why the psitol doen't want to run wth factory ammo.
  20. I have a Kimber 8400 Tactical with an A-5, and I really likike the stock, but I don't think I would use it on a hunting rifle except for maybe some really special circumstances. It's great from the bench or the prone, but it does not seem a special from off hand or the standing-braced position. For hunting I would rather have a lighter, more streamlined stock.
  21. I have Hienie Slant Pro Straight 8 night sights on my duty 32C. They are made by Trijicon but the front is narrower, and the rear seems wider than the regular Trijicons. I really like them better that the stock sights, or the regular night sights. In low light it seems to be easier to line up one dot over the other than to line up three horizontally.
  22. 2007 Expedition EXL, and I heard somthin dragging. I brought it straight to the shop, and was told that apparently the caliper had been sticking. The caliper was cooked, the rotor was trash and the shop decided it would be a good idea to replace both rear rotors, and both rear calipers. Those babies are a bit pricey.

JD: Man,I thought I was never gonna have that experience again. Then my two year old grandson Micah went to daycare.
  24. Bruin, that would probably take too many $1.00 bills. But then again, it woulod probably be worth paying to see.
  25. Welcome to the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
