Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. I apologize if this has been discussed a few times. I only noticed a thread from 2007. Looking at the Rose page, .451 Zero FMJ bullets are in-stock and priced at $125.00/1000 or $481/4000 Montana Gold .45 230 FMJ are priced at $174/1000 and "on sale" at $345/2000 (a price for 4000 is not shown) or $690/4000 There is a thread from 2007 with a few members here stating preferences both ways but to sum-up, I believe the consensus is stating "buy what is available" (Obama's possible election was causing a shortage). Can anyone reasonably explain what I believe is now a far larger price discrepancy than in 2007? Thanks in advance, Walsh
  2. Thanks for the replies. I am currently trying a .75 correction at a cheap price ($8.23) from Amazon to see how I like them as the front sight is sharp with that Rx: Elvex RX-500C-0.75 Full Lens Magnifier, Black Frame /Grey Temple Tips I have ESS glasses with a prescription that clips in but I had them made for bullseye shooting with a bifocal half-disk in the top. When shooting bullseye one isn't square to the target so when shooting non-bullseye I sometimes I catch the edge of the corrective lens and that makes them unworkable. If these work out fine I'll see my optometrist and get the entire left eye lens made to exactly what my eye exam shows at the front sight distance. He's a member of our gun club so he is fine with bringing in a cased gun with an empty chamber indicator in place and then doing an eye test at your front sight's distance to the eye. Thanks for the replies, Walsh
  3. Merry Christmas, fellow shooters! I have a vision question that perhaps someone else has run into. I had InterocularImplants 8 yrs ago to remove cataracts when I was 55 (family trait to get them early) and my 20/400 vision went to 20/20 vision, or sometimes better, in my cross dominant left eye. It's 20/25 in my right eye. I shoot right hand dominant with only the dominant left eye open. For reading, I use 1.25 corrective cheaters at about 25 inches. When I extend to shoot I add 7 inches in length to where the front sight resides so it's at 32 inches and I need only 1.0 at that distance. It's possible that I could need a smidgen less correction but I'd need a new eye exam to be sure. I know it's, front sight, front sight, front sight, etc. But if I wear the 1.0 glasses the clarity of the front sight is quite minuscule compared to not wearing any glasses, and I believe I can see the space on each side of the front post, as well as the height of the front post compared to the rear sights, almost as well without any glasses. Has anyone else had to decide in a situation like this, and what did you decide on? Just from my own experience you are likely not going to be dealing with the sights and you also won't have your shooting glasses with a corrective lens in an encounter with someone armed. So training without them will be the hand you are dealt in real life if you are preyed upon. I had an attempted armed robbery a few years ago and at 12-15 feet away I was looking down my barrel and focusing on the threat to see if he was still coming up with the gun that he was retrieving from a coat pocket. Seeing mine pointed at him already, which he had to see as he told me, "be cool" as he let his gun drop back into his jacket and held his hands up, helped me decided to not shoot. Also, encountering that time-slowing phenomenon is bizarre and it gave me more perceived time to think. We have a seasoned criminal defense attorney in our gun club and he gave a seminar about what to do after a shooting (be quiet and say nothing to anyone without a lawyer is the short story) and he opened by saying that if you really don't need to shoot someone, even if you legally can, DON'T. He said he had represented many individuals in shootings in 30 years of practice and that your life changes in ways you never dreamed of when you start putting bullets into someone. I think events of the last few years have made that pretty clear in some cases. Thanks in advance, Walsh
  4. I have a CED7000 pro that has completely dominated my brain by hiding how it really works. Can't be on with Jeff Foxworthy with one of these, I guess. I'd like to shoot (practice) IDPA strings. Ideally I'd like to shoot all strings required in the qualifier and then write the times to paper and start the next stage. My guess is that I have to do something with the timer where after my last shot of each string I press "review" and then "start" for the next string and continue until finished. All I can do now is stop after each string which makes practice longer and interupts focus, so I'd like to get all ties/scores after each stage. No stage has 10 strings, but if one needs to program strings numers I'd like to go to 10 in the event I want to shoot one over. Is this posssible, and if so, any idea how? I know a range master who has used his CED7000 and he doesn't think his can do what I am trying to accomplish with his, but perhaps the PRO model added some features. As to delay, setting to a 5 second par to start after I press "start" is fine. Thanks in advance, Walsh
  5. I have a CZ Shadow T and love it. I don't know the difference between the two variations. The guide rod is some sort of steel. Others who are far better shot that I have said run it through its paces and said they might have to buy one from the CZ Custom Shop (as I did) as it's a great gun. The weight of mine is 39.47 ounces. CZ Custom states it is IDPA SSP legal on the website. Is that extra .47 ounce an issue I have to deal with to shoot production? If so, my guess would be grips, but I like the rubber ones that come standard on the Shadow T Thanks in advance, Walsh
  6. Any chance the videos that are now dead links still exist? I know the NSA probably has them, but hacking in takes me on a road trip to China Walsh

Please see edit above (for those on alert to topic updates at I have a question on Mec-Gar 16 rounders for $19.99 through Oct at Midway) Thanks

Great...thanks! Walsh EDIT: I see that Midway has the Mec-Gar 16 rd with flush steel plate on sale for $20 through October. I have three 19 rounders from CZ Custom shop. I'm thinking I could order 5 of the 16 rounders (save $$$) and more readily do shooting drills requiring reloads. I've not gone to my first IDPA event yet, but would there be any reason to be at a benefit to having the 19 rounders? And if so, are the three I have already good enough that my thoughts on getting five more 16 rounders at $20 each a good idea? Thanks

I just got my CZ Shadow T a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I am lucky in that out club has a great indoor range that's 24/7 and 10 minutes from me. I was there alone from 10PM-2AM last night. With these mags, since I'm dropping them on a concrete floor when I reload, is there one mag that has a bottom that has a little more give to it than another? Or will I just have to replace broken bases pads when they occur? If there is a mag with a metal base, I guess I could use 3-4 of those for shooting on concrete. Thanks in advance, Walsh
  10. Thanks guys..I'll check my primer stash (sizable) and then talk to Rob at CZ Walsh
  11. Can anyone who has had this done shed some light on real world experiences with the trigger and the primer issue, and is the trigger IDPA legal afterwards? From Rob (who did me a solid getting this gun out to me with a change to it under an hour from closing on a Thursday night) at CZ Custom, where I got this AMAZING gun! Except for my Kimber 1911 I feel like selling the others: We can do what we refer to as a competition trigger job for $100. We also recommend at that time the extended firing pin $20 and the RAMI firing pin spring $4. The one thing to be aware of is that you will have primer sensitivity issues. So you will need to stick with Federal primers if reloading. I ask as I have a boatload of primers and only half are Federal. If I use Winchester or Remington in practice will I get a 95% rate, or is it that so significant that even practicing and using anything but Federal is frustrating to the point of trying to sell the non-Federal ones? Also, is there any way around the "Federal Only" issue while still getting the trigger to be better? It's the DA that, IMO, needs the work. Thanks in advance. Walsh
  12. Let me see if I can ask this right as I think I can run either 10 or 11 strings using individual par settings, but it appears unless I hit Review after each string and then hit Start, I can't do what I want that way as it keeps recording after that first beep. Here's on thing I would like to do: 1- click Start and let's make it simple and have the beep go off at 5 seconds 2- Have the shots recorded for that string stop being accepted after 5 seconds, at which time a countdown begins as I again have 5 seconds to reholster as it's going to beep again and record shots again for 5 seconds. 3- do that 10 times at which time I can review what I have done and the results. The 5 seconds would allow me to fire one shot, a pair, or a double pair on two targets. Knowing that would be most helpful in my training. I could look at my results and keep track of them. Is that possible? They came out days ago with the CED7000Pro and I spoke to the company today and they agreed that there should be a lot more documentation with the CED7000 and will work on it ASAP. The new one has "Simple Mode" and you can see Saul Kirch demonstrate it extensively on YouTube. You could run a whole natch with it. I asked what accessories I now have will be able to be used with the CED7000Pro and was told to check the website soon. It looks fantastic and as if the CED7000 was the prototype in development for the new standard in timers. And I might buy the new one and have to lose 60% on this one, but if I learn how this one works I suspect that between the lengthy illustrations for the new model it will be quite easy to use as well as upload your activity to review online. I want the new one. Go take a look and I suspect everyone will. But for now, I need to get this to work. Thanks for any help anyone can lend.
  13. The two biggest uses for me right now would bee these: 1- Randomly start and have it beep to stop in a defined time. That way I could practice shooting plates. And I'd like it to do it only once and stop so I can review. 2- Working on draw and shoot speed. Beep (randomly or fixed) and fire shots before the beep to stop comes along. I would like to decrease that time as I improve. Also, it could be for 1 shot, or splits, so I would like it to be in the mode where it holds strings so I can go through a few mags and I will stop it and review. 3- Set it for a random beep and longer times to stop (this is essentially #1 that I'm just repeating as to why) to practice PPC where one stage is 2 1/2 minutes. Any help greatly appreciated.
  14. Thanks guys...if others will keep them coming, maybe there can be a file on it eventually. Walsh
  15. Unless you are deaf from shooting you don't want that....wait....this isn't "blind golf", it's using guns so you can see...man, you DEFINITELY don't want that. I heard that one should pick Philippine Mail-Order Brides as the Russian Mail-Order Brides steal your money and shave more than you...
