  1. What? $28,000 for the chair, but you're using a M&P for Open? Come on! Step up to a custom 2011 Open gun.
  2. Yep. I'm making 174PF in a Schuemann barrel using 7.3gr of Autocomp with a MG 115gr, or the same PF with 6.8gr of Autocomp using a MG 124gr. Both are 1.165 OAL. Personally, I don't see the purpose of popple holes. Aren't you just bleeding off gas that would otherwise go to work the comp?
  3. Some people think that cleaning a gun before a match is "bad ju-ju."
  4. I've got a friend that has a S&W 686+ with, (I believe), a Tasco red dot on it. He has an older Safariland 002 holster. He uses speed-loaders. He only uses the gun for steel and bowling pin matches through. I think his power factor is a miniscule 90. The bullets are so slow you can follow them all the way from the muzzle to the target!
  5. Clean? You mean you have to clean them? Usually only once every few months, or before a big match. Other than that, I just run a boresnake through it after each match.
  6. The difference in recoil is going to be between bullet weights and powder. Faster powders have softer recoil, but may not produce enough gas to properly work the comp. I know that I started shooting 115gr because it was what was available, (freaking ammo shortages!), but I found that I liked the recoil better. The gun was flatter because there was more powder, so more gas volume to work the comp. I had been shooting 124gr, and there was a noticeable difference. Of course, right now I'll shoot whatever I can get my hands on!
  7. Reload 'em till they split or you lose them. I ONLY use previously fired brass, and have for years. Never a problem.
  8. I've had the Ghost holster, and I think the DAA is more secure. Holster wear, like death and taxes, is inevitable. It's just proof that you actually USE your gun.
  9. I think a lot of the info about 9 major being bad or hard to load is based on experience from when the power factor was still 175. I understand that there were people who had their guns blow up back then because they were loading to 185+ PF so they wouldn't go minor. Now that the power factor is 165, it's less of an issue. I run either a 115gr Montana Gold with 7.3gr of Autocomp, or a 124gr with 6.8gr, and both make about 174 PF in my gun with no pressure signs.
  10. I wear contacts for shooting for one simple reason, when shooting from unusual positions in competition, sometimes you end up looking OVER the lenses of your shooting glasses. If you're using the glasses to provide vision correction, well, there goes your nice clear sight picture. Not a problem with contacts.
  11. I know people who are shooting plated bullets like Rainier or Frontier through their Open gun for major PF. Not sure I would try coated bullets though.
  12. Amen to that!! Practice finding the dot, especially when doing stong-hand/weak-hand drills!!
  13. I use Astroglide... Oh wait! You were talking about THAT gun?! In that case, I use FP-10.
  14. Currently two rigs, soon to be three: Open Div: STI Open/Limited Div: Glock (Two top ends for same gun.) I'm getting ready to order another belt so I can set up a rig for Single Stack/Limited 10. I already have the holster and mag pouches from when I shot L10 before. I think it's better to have a seperate belt for each division/gun, (unless you can dual use, like my Open/Limited Glock.) Saves time and hassle on swapping holsters and mag pouches on one belt, and everything stays set-up the same every time. I don't think $55 for another belt is too much after you've already spend hundreds on a holster and mag pouches. Penny wise, pound foolish.
  15. Hogwash! 1. For a 140mm mag, it doesn't matter at all when it comes to legal length in Open, since the maximum is 170mm. 2. Lots of people using S.N.L. basepads in 9mm/.38 Super, me included, and they WILL fit the gauge! Mine fits the gauge, and I have done NO tuning to my 170mm. At most, you may have to file a small bit off of the rear edge of the feed lips.
  16. Me too. Reloading to a 170 is just awkward, and unless you are a terrible shot, starting with a 170 and reloading to a 140 will get you through ANY stage in USPSA. I don't really see a point to having more than 1 170mm mag, (aside from a backup in case your main mag goes down during a match.)
  17. I used a Glock 22 for three reasons. 1. I could shoot Limited major until I got the parts to run it as an Open gun. 2. As a .40 S&W, I could shoot Open major with standard power ammo. (Safer IMHO considering its a Glock.) 3. It was cheaper than a 2011 Open gun.
  18. Welcome to the dark side! I'm using Grams springs & followers with Dawson SNL basepads. I get 23 in a 140 mm, and 29 in a 170 mm, shooting 9 mm major. You should be able to get that running .38 super.
  19. I joined USPSA in Oct. 2009 shooting L10 with a 1911 .45ACP and 10 round mags. Bought a Glock .40 in 2011 and ran it in Limited for a short time before I convertd it to an Open gun in June of 2011. (Yes, I shot a .40 Open Glock.) I made "B" in open 6 months later using that gun. Bought a used STI Open 9mm in Jan. of 2012 and have been shooting that ever since.
  20. In no way is the Ghost more adjustable than the Racer or Race Master.
  21. I just picked up a DAA Racer to replace my Ghost holster for my STI Open gun, and so far I really like it. I do miss that positive "click" I got from the Ghost that let me know the gun was properly seated in the holster, but the stability of the gun once it's in the Racer is far superior. The Ghost still allowed a little bit of "rocking" movement when the gun was in the holster, but the Racer is ROCK SOLID, and the gun does not move at all. The Racer also has more FAR adjustability than the Ghost does. I chose the Racer because I really had no need for the Race Master. I only have two guns that I can run Limited or Open, (an STI Open, and a Glock with 2 top-ends that I can run in either Limited or Open), and I already have another complete rig for the Glock. Also, just changing the locking block is not really of any use to me unless you either change the mag pouches on the belt, or move the holster to another belt with mag pouches. It's just easier to have two compete rigs.
  22. Practice makes perfect Mildot. With practice, the time difference is still minimal. If you are really to the point where that extra 0.1 second is costing you a championship, then you're far above me and most shooters here.
  23. I ran an Open Glock in .40 S&W for 7 months when I first started shooting open, and I made "B" with it in that ammount of time. Obviously running major 9 in a Glock isn't THAT bad, or KC Escubio wouldn't be using one.
  24. Not everyone is the same Sarge. It should be on whatever site the shooter is most comfortable with. Oh, and BTW - I had a ball detent with a left-side racker, and I hated it. The ball detent did not hold the racker securely.
